We would like to extend a warm welcome to our new superintendent, Nick Ceglarek. He has been the superintendent of Fruitport Community Schools for the past five years. An article featured in the Muskegon Chronicle outlines Mr. Ceglarek’s successes during his time with the Fruitport Community School District.
Mr. Ceglarek will be replacing Roxanne DeWeerd, our superintendent for the past eight years. Mrs. DeWeerd ended her career in Hudsonville as the Michigan Superintendent of the Year! This was an incredible honor and one that she deserved fully. Mrs. DeWeerd served as our leader for all of us–setting progressive goals that focused on student learning. To thank her for all that she has done, Georgetown created a tribute video which was shared at our April 2009 PTC meeting.
We wish Mrs. DeWeerd a happy, adventure filled retirement and at the same time welcome Mr. Ceglarek to our district filled with caring parents, bright students, progressive teachers and administrators, and a supportive community.

On Monday, June 15, the Michigan Association for Pupil Transportation state school bus driving championship was held and it was our Art Birdsley that claimed our district’s first title since the last of back-to-back wins in 2004.
Hudsonville drivers also finished fourth and 12th in the 37-driver field representing the finest of Michigan’s school bus industry, which spends $770 million transporting more than 1 million children about 187 million miles each year on 12,665 buses. The two districts have won five of the last seven state titles, with four runners-up in that span. To read more, click BUS

Your child’s end of the year report card should arrive in the mail by Friday, June 12. All PK-Grade 5 report cards were placed in the mail at the Hudsonville post office on Monday, June 8. Please let us know if you do not receive your child’s report card.
Also, class lists will be posted on Monday, June 15. These will be posted on the windows of the Multi-Purpose Room.
Our teaching staff for the upcoming school year will involve a few changes. Mrs. Karen Weiss will be joining our kindergarten teaching team, teaching on M/W and alternating Fridays. Mrs. Huizenga will be moving to 2nd grade and Mr. Bowen will be moving to 3rd grade. All other teaching staff will be teaching the same grades as this past year.
Thank you again for your wonderful support this past school year. We could not do all that we do without YOU!
More updates will be coming throughout the coming weeks. Until then, stay warm–and let’s hope summer weather arrives sooner rather than later.

If you ordered a DVD of the talent show, please make sure that your child’s performance is included. If you find that it is not, send your DVD back for a refund. A technology glitch occurred while converting the i-movie format to DVD format. As a result, five acts were erased and cannot be restored. I apologize sincerely for this problem.
All acts have been posted to our school blog for your viewing. These videos can be found on a separate page above: GOT TALENT 2009
