Good Friday afternoon!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

PTC MEETING…. We would love to have a great turnout out for our meeting next week.  The PTC will be having their meeting on Tuesday, March 16 at 7:00pm. Our wonderful superintendent, Nick Ceglarek, will be there to talk about the school funding issues.  Should be a very informative meeting to attend.

KINDERGARTEN ROUND-UP……..  We held Kindergarten Round-Up on Tuesday and it went very well.  It looks like we will be having a wonderful new bunch of little ones coming our way in the fall.  We will be doing our Kindergarten screening next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.  If anyone has any questions please feel free to contact the office.

READING COUNTS…. These are the winners of the 3rd reading counts drawing.  Each winner will receive a gift certificate for a FREE book of their choice valued at $4.99 or less from the bookfair next week.  These certificates will be waiting for them at the bookfair for the students to use when they shop.

RAISE A READER SCHOOL CHALLENGE….   If you have not signed up for the Raise A Reader School Challenge it is NOT too late.  To do so, just go to Mrs. VandenBerg’s Library News Blog and you will find the link to enroll.  Remember this is our chance to WIN $5,000 for our Library here at Georgetown Elementary.

BOOK FAIR……  Don’t forget our Scholastic Book Fair will be taking place next week here at Georgetown.  It will be held in the Sensory Motor Room in the Early Childhood hallway, room 109.  Don’t forget parents that there will be “Family Shopping” on Tuesday night, March 16.  It will take place from 3:30pm through 7:00pm.

4TH GRADE NEWS…..  Wednesday, March 17 is the 4th graders trip to Lansing.  Students will come to school as usual, but they will NEED TO BE PICKED UP by a parent/guardian after school at around 4:30pm.  Students MUST bring a sack lunch.  This is a great trip and I am sure they will all enjoy this!

5TH GRADE NEWS…..  Just a few reminders for upcoming dates for our 5th grade students.    March 17 5th graders visit the middle school; April 13 instrument fittings for students wanting to join band; April 21/22 Band meeting for parents; April 28 Course selections due back to 5th grade teachers; May 3 Sixth grade orientation meeting for parents at BMS; May 11 Parent meeting for camp; May 19-21 5th grade Camp.  Wow before you know it they will be on to Middle School!!   Take time to enjoy those 5th graders, before you know it Spring will be gone and school will be out!

GEORGETOWN TALENT SHOW….. Important info in regards to the upcoming Talent Show.  Only 3rd through 5th grade are able to audition.  Audition sheets must be turned in by MONDAY, MARCH 15.  Auditions will be held Wednesday, March 17 through Friday, March 19.  The talent show will be held on Thursday, April 1.  Practices MUST be arranged outside of school and the office will not be making phone calls to set up practices for student.  This is the parent’s responsibility.  Thank you for taking care of this at home.

FROM THE ADMINISTRATION OFFICE…..  In-District Building Transfer Requests & Schools-of-Choice Hudsonville Public Schools will be considering In-District Building Transfer Requests and Schools-of-Choice Applications for all buildings (room permitting) for the 2010-2011 school year.  The following conditions apply:

  1. The staffing and building facilities can accommodate the transfer.  Openings will be determined by grade level allowing open positions for move-in students.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                   Due to staffing, student transportation, or other considerations, the district may opt to deny a request.
  2. In-district building transfers, once approved, will remain in effect unless a major shift in student population or redistricting occurs.
  3. Schools-of-Choice (non-resident) students are required to apply annually.

COMMUNITY ED NEWS……  No new activities came out this week.  Please feel free to stop by the racks outside the Multi-Purpose Room for the activities that Community Ed is currently offering.  You may also visit the Community Ed website to look at and register for upcoming activities.  www.hudsonvillepublicschools.org.

Cancer Support Group of Jenison/Hudsonville…..  Has a cancer diagnosis recently affected your family?  Does someone you love need support while going though chemotherapy and/or radiation?  Are you dealing with the affects of therapy?  Cancer Support Group of Jenison/Hudsonville is made up of families from our area who have been through cancer in the past and now want to support other families who are dealing with it.
