Holding Down the Fort…

solar vortex

at Georgetown!   Even though it is FREEZING COLD and WINDY and SNOWY all around Georgetown, the inside is filled with 12 super special snow bound kids:  Aiden, Kaycie, Remi, Jordan, CJ, Evan, Dylan, Rachel, Jack, Alyssa, Sofia and Talia.  They have the gym, cafeteria, library and hallways ALL TO THEMSELVES because they were here for BEFORE SCHOOL CARE due to the delay.

Although it is fun to have the school all to yourselves, we are really tired of winter and the cold and the POLAR VORTEX.  We will gladly welcome a SOLAR VORTEX of some kind or another!

Week 24: Farewell February

The Sun, By Kadon in Ms. Yankee's Class
The Sun, By Kadon in Ms. Yankee’s Class

These long winter months of endless cold and snow have created challenges with our routine and made it difficult to play outside.  Most of us are ready for  sunshine, green grass, soccer games, baseball and much more.  Our art teachers, Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch have filled the hallways with student artwork representing the sun.  Aztec Suns by our first graders light up one side of our K/1 wing while cartoon like painted paper plate sun’s brighten up the kindergarten side.  Walking down the hallway boosts my spirits and reminds me that spring will come one day.

We have our final week of February ahead–a five-day week that will be cold and hopefully snow day free!

If you have a kindergartener coming to school NEXT YEAR (2014-15), our K information night is March 18 at 7pm.  If you cannot make the meeting, information can be found at the top of our blog under K Registration Information 2014.

A reminder:  Parent Teacher Conferences will be held March 3, 4 and 5 — next week.

Have a great weekend…and here’s to the last week of February.

Mrs. Reagan

Thank You, Mr. Meyers!

Bus rescue

We are DONE with this weather right??  I was relieved to have a delay rather than a snow day, however, I knew that the bus drivers would have a challenging morning working their way along icy roads and high ridges of snow in subdivisions.  There is little room to turn a bus and often the streets are still unplowed.

While completing a morning run,  one of our Georgetown buses got stuck.   Picture a bus load of children, one driver…stuck in the snow.

Along comes our hero, Mr. Meyers, parent of Mikaeyla (a kindergartener in Mrs. Estefan’s class).  He arrived with his pick-up truck and a tow rope.  Within no time, the bus was free, on its way to Georgetown.

Here’s to Mr. Meyers for his help today…and to ALL OUR BUS DRIVERS who have had many stressful driving days this winter.  We appreciate you.

Week 23: February 17-21, 2014

snowpilesWe did it!  We made it through our first five-day week of 2014.    Our next goal is to make it through another week with no snow days.  WE CAN DO IT!

The first day of spring is March 20.  We need the warm up to begin so that this pile outside my office is gone and replaced by Mr. Rob’s well manicured green lawn.

Remember Wednesday is MARCO’s PIZZA NIGHT.  The class with the most pizza’s purchased will win a class pizza party.  Thank you PTC for organizing and sponsoring these events throughout the year.

Have a great week!

I (Strategic Objectives to Achieve Results).  A report of the many accomplishments during the past three years can be found on our district’s website.  Some of the accomplishments include, but are not limited to, implementation of all day every day kindergarten, additional extra curricular opportunities for students (Middle School drama/musical productions and lacrosse as a club sport), and an increased focus on relevance/21st Century Skills in our classrooms.

To continue our great tradition of excellence at Hudsonville Public Schools and to elevate our successes, we are asking for your help in the development of our next strategic plan.  We have completed the first phase of development (Focus Groups) and are very thankful for the wealth of information we received regarding the strengths of Hudsonville Public Schools and areas to focus on in the future.  An executive summary can be found on our website.

We are now entering our next phase in the research:  Randomized Needs Assessment Survey.  If you are asked to participate, please consider taking part in helping us set the direction for the next three years.
