Week 32: April Showers Bring May Flowers

The weather forecast calls for rain everyday this week — a challenge for our children who are working hard to learn well all day long.  We will seize every possible moment between showers to provide breaks outside (walk/running the path for mileage club sticks) or inside with stretch breaks.  We are hoping that the cool, rainy spring leads to a warmer, flower filled May!

Our week opens Georgetown Artists special night at the DISTRICT ART SHOW  at Hudsonville City Hall.   The art work on display (K-12 artists) is a testament to our district art instruction and our student artists.

We wrap up our week with POPCORN DAY and Georgetown’s celebration of SECRETARY’s DAY.  We postponed our celebration because one of our secretary’s (Mrs. Ripley) was out last week.  These two professionals, Mrs. Doni Nurenberg and Mrs. Angie Ripley, are exceptionally skilled at managing the demands of the office professionally and compassionately.    We, the Georgetown staff, simply can’t imagine our school without them!

Have a wonderful week!

Week 31: Warmer Weather Ahead

butterflyYes…temperatures between 50• and 70• is warmer…and I am thrilled to see those temperatures projections in the 8 day forecast!

The butterfly on the left was created by Emma Czarnowski, a kindergartener in Ms. Yankee’s class.  Emma’s butterfly is brightening the Early Childhood hallway along with 89 other kindergarten butterflies.  Many thanks to the artists and their art teacher, Mrs. Persch, for reminding us what we have to look forward too as the days get warmer.

Behind the scenes preparations are going on for our ALL SCHOOL JUST WRITE CELEBRATION (May 12-16).  Just Write is a celebration of all the writing our students have done this school year.  It will be a time that parents, friends, grandparents and other special people in your lives can tour the building to read pieces of writing on display by every single writer in the building.  More will be coming about this event…but if you have not gotten the tour date down for your child’s grade, check out the dates below.

jw tours
Many other events will be scheduled and shared as the school year winds up to wind down.  Please be sure to follow this blog and your child’s class blog for details.
Wishing everyone a beautiful Easter weekend.

Welcome Back: April 14-18, 2014

I hope your spring break was just RIGHT for you and your family.  I am excited to get back to school and hear about everyone’s time away — and get back into the routine of school.

As we look ahead to the week, notice that our 5th graders continue to prepare for their transition to Baldwin Middle School.  On Tuesday, they meet with music staff to try “on” musical instruments — a time that allows each student to get a feel for different instruments and express their interest in learning to play an instrument next year.

PTC is sponsoring a Marco’s Pizza Night mid-week and sponsoring a MOTHER/DAUGHTER Rollerskating Party this coming Saturday at Tarry Hall.

In addition to these events, be sure to check your child’s class blog for details about homework, quizzes and other events!

Talent Show Highlights

Our GOT TALENT show was a great success….and featured many talented students:  singers, drummers, pianists, comedians, magicians and more.  If you would like to view each performance, visit this link.

This year, our talented students created parodies for and of the staff.  I must tell you that these students have both our talents and our personalities SPOT ON.  You can enjoy these videos below.

Thank you to all of the parents who patiently watched endless rehearsals and calmed the performers nerves before the show!

Happy Spring Break!

Milo takes a break between class visits. He slept on Mrs. Reagan's desk!
Milo takes a break between class visits. He slept on Mrs. Reagan’s desk!

We have had a great four-day week — two of the days with sunshine and 50˚ temperatures!  Milo visited on Wednesday (treating the second graders to popsicles for their great effort with the online testing pilot) and third graders showcased their biography projects.

Throughout the week, their were talent show practices and preparations…and it paid off because the two shows were FANTASTIC!  Videos of the shows will be featured on our blog as I finish all the necessary downloading, editing and uploading.

I wish everyone safe and happy times during your spring vacation (April 4-13).   Here’s to warmer temperatures when we return to school!
