BOOK FAIR: November 3-7

book fairWe are very excited to hold our first book fair for this school year.  The event organizer, Jody Hunt, has set up a full schedule of parent volunteers to assist the students with looking at the books and purchasing books.   We have an  amazing selection of books for the children to check out.

We will have after school shopping on Monday (Nov 3 pm; 5-7) and Wednesday (Nov 5; 5-6:30 pm).  Feel free to stop into the library either before or after your child’s parent teacher conference on either of these nights.

We wanted to remind you that you can always shop online, too.  If you would like to go through the full inventory of books and order online visit our Georgetown Scholastic Book Fair homepage.

A portion of the book fair profits go toward purchasing books for our library and our classrooms.  Thank you for your support!

Officer Gainey Makes First Arrest

Georgetown was overflowing with Elsa’s, Annie’s, Mickey’s, Minnie’s, Doctors, Scuba Divers, Fishermen, Darth Vader, Superman, Ninja’s, Blue Men, Bat Men, Lego’s, Banana’s, cupcakes and much MUCH more.   To check out some of the costumes and classroom events, view the slideshows posted on the class blogs to the left.

We also had a police officer who made his very first arrest—one that makes the school safer!  When I asked Officer Kellan Gainey for permission to post this to the blog, he quickly added, “It’s only a joke you know.”    I want Kellan to know that his  joke made my day!

Happy Halloween Everyone!

Week 9: Final Week of October

jackolanternDid you know that the first Jack O’ Lanterns were turnips?  Did you also know that Ireland is considered the birthplace of this very spooky and strange fall custom?  If you’d like to find out more fun facts, check out  40 Fun Facts about Halloween.

Our school Halloween celebrations will be held on Thursday of this week.  Please make sure you check your child’s class blog to find out details about the timing of the parties.   No school on Friday, October 31.  This is a day for teachers to finish report cards and prepare for Parent Teacher Conferences on November 3,5,6.  Report cards arrive home with each child on Monday, November 3.  The exception to this is Kindergarten — fall progress reports replace report cards.  Kindergarten teachers will instead share progress reports during the conferences.

I hope you are enjoying this beautiful fall weekend!

Fall Has Arrived!

We felt fall blow in this week with the windy, rainy and cool weather.  Our LOST & FOUND is also a testament to the changing season — every hanger is full with jackets and sweatshirts in all sizes and colors.  If your child cannot find a jacket/sweatshirt at home, add check locker and check LOST & FOUND to their TO DO list.    I’ve asked teachers to remind their students to check this area (between rotunda and library) as they walk to specials and lunch.

I included the big events for the next two weeks below.  We have some important events ahead — Picture Retakes, Turkey Trot, a day off from school and Parent/Teacher Conferences.  We will schedule all of the conferences this week and get your schedule times out to you by Friday.  As you can imagine, this is a complex and tedious process in which we schedule siblings back to back and try to also work around your requested dates.   This time to meet with parents is very important to us so it is time well spent.

The BOOK FAIR (made possible by PTC and a host of parent volunteers) will run the same week as conferences (November 3-6).  Many thanks in advance to Jody Hunt who is the creative energy chairing the Book Fair this year!

Enjoy your weekend…and here’s to crisp fall weather next week!

Mrs. Reagan

PS:  Hats off to some amazing basketball players that I saw in action this morning at the HHS:  Joanna, Jayda, Kinsley, Emmalee, Saige, Mikynn and Izzy.  My only regret — I didn’t get photos of all your great shots!

News from the office….

The kiddos at Georgetown are comfortable with their routines and everyone is doing great! Thanks to such AWESOME support from the families at Georgetown, we were able to watch Mr. Gort, Mr. Bowen, Mr. Kooiker, and Mr. Rob sumo wrestle! The kids had so much fun watching and cheering them on! Thankfully we were able to get this in before the weather turned a bit cooler. With that said, we would like to remind you to label your child’s coats, hats, and anything else they might wear to school. We are sending a lot of items to lost and found already and labeling the items helps us find it’s owner. Thanks for your help!!

A remind from Mrs. Reagan: If you have not responded to the Parent Teacher Conference Survey, please do so this weekend.

Week 6 Brings October Wind & Rain

It’s fair to say that the changing weather of the fall has arrived!  As you change over to warmer winter clothing for you children, please make sure that you mark the clothing with last name on the garment size tag.   This helps us to match your child with LOST items from Lost and Found.  If you would ever like to scan the LOST and FOUND items in our building, this is located in the hallway between the library and the rotunda.

Our school events for the week are below — Jet’s Pizza Nights on Tues/Wed are the highlight.  Be sure to check your child’s class blog for more specific details about class events, homework assignments, quizzes, etc.

Have a great week…and be warm!
