News from the Office….

It is so nice to be able to get outside and move around!! We have 2 grades done with M-Step and 3rd grade to go!! The kids are doing well and we are very proud of them! Our countdown continues with 15 more SCHOOL days left!! Hard to Believe!! Here are a couple of end of the year reminders.

1. If you are bringing in a frozen treat for a birthday or just for fun, please bring them in a cooler. We do not have a lot of extra room in the lounge freezer. Thanks for your help with this!!

2. If your child has meds at school, you MUST pick them up by the end of the day on Friday June 5 (last day of school). Any meds that are left at school at the end of the year will be disposed of.  Thanks!

Art News….

Parents, it is time to send home all the beautiful student artwork that we’ve been keeping art screenschotsafe at school for you!  Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch will host an ART PICK UP DAY – this includes framed artwork from the Art Show too!

WHERE: Mrs. Persch’s Art Room – across from the office, look for the signs!
Please stop in for your kid’s art work – we’ll be sending any pieces left home with the kids after May 28.  Hope to see you there!

Community News….

  • Ugandan Children’s Choir is coming to Hudsonville!  You are invited to musicexperience the energetic and joyful music of Africa as they perform at Chapel Pointe Church on Sunday May 17, at 9:30 and 11:10 a.m.  The children are cared for by Parental Care Ministries and are here to share their love and faith through compelling stories and songs. All women and girls are also invited to Chapel Pointe on Thursday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. for a free dessert event with the choir girls.

    Hager Park Church is partnering with Feeding America West Michigan to provide a feeding america
    Mobile Food Distribution. The food distribution will take place at Hager Park Church’s parking lot, located at 2635 Bauer Road in Jenison. Sign-in is required, although the food is available to anyone that needs it. There will be a large assortment of food, consisting of fresh seasonal produce and other high quality grocery items.

  • This summer, let your children expand their imaginations, discover Shakespeare, and get some Will Power!Grand Valley Shakespeare Festival is pleased to once again offer its summer education camp Will Power. Featuring teaching artists from Pigeon Creek Shakespeare Company, our day camp focuses on developing creativity through the process of drama.   • CAMP INVENTION
    In partnership with the National Inventors Hall of Fame, Hudsonville Christian School is pleased to offer the nationally-acclaimed Camp Invention program to children entering grades one through six June 15-19.  It’s an exciting, weeklong summer adventure with lessons that explore connections between science, technology, engineering and innovation.  Availability is limited, so visit www.campinvention.org or call 800.968.4332 to secure your child’s spot today!  If you have any questions about the program at HCS, please call or email Sharon Leerar (915-1861 or sleerar@4hcs.org).  Register by May 12 to receive $15 off the base price!
  • Is your daughter going into 1st-8th grade next fall and interested in cheering? Hudsonville Rocket Cheerleading will be having their registration date on  Monday, August 3rd.  It  will be from 5-8pm and take place at the Hudsonville High School cheerleadingcafeteria.  The registration deadline isTuesday, August 4th (no late registrations will be accepted).  The cost of registration is $75 and includes an end of year banquet and trophy.  An additional uniform cost applies for those that do not have one.  Used uniforms will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis (though most used uniforms come later at the registrations as girls turn them in).  The 1st-6th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Youth Football games and the 7th & 8th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Club Football games.     • Mark your calendars for Saturday, May 16, 2015 for a free and fun discovery program at the Hansen Nature Trail at Millennium Park! Just pull on your comfortable walking shoes, gather the family and make your way down Butterworth Avenue to Riverbendspring flowers Street to one of Kent County Park’s hidden gems, Hansen Nature Trail. There is parking along Riverbend or take the free trolley that runs from John Ball Zoo and back. This experiential family event for kids of ALL ages runs from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM. It includes a scavenger hunt where kids get a trail guide to be stamped and entered into a drawing for a free “Discover! Millennium Park” t-shirt—along with a “discovery” trail walk to learn about a truly interesting ecosystem and things like:
    1.  the birds and mammals that make their home on the Hansen Nature Trail
    2.  the variety of native and non-native trees around the park
    3.  the unique ponds and learn why they were created
    4.  the wildflowers and native plants thriving in the area
    5.  the history of the Hansen Nature Trail
    6.  and even interacting with the local reptiles, amphibians and birds of prey!

  • Kids Day 2015!  – Saturday, June 13
    Kids! Moms! Dads! – Kick off your summer with an affordable, family-friendly event for kids from toddlers to 5th grade. Come and enjoy our 6th annual Kids Day at the Hudsonville Fairgrounds between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. Enjoy free stage shows,  .25¢ games, lots of prizes, affordable kid-friendly food, and much more. Come whether it’s sunny or rainy. Kids Day is organized by Jehovah Jireh Ministries, and is supported by several local businesses, churches, and organizations.
