Week 4: September 28-October 2

We have had absolutely amazing weather to start the school year and this makes such a difference in helping us to establish routines for learning and working together at school.   The nice weather guarantees outside recess — time for the children to move, run, play and socialize with their peers.  Knowing that the weather will soon shift to rain, sleet, snow and cold we appreciate these beautiful fall days even more.

IMG_9076Our WALK•A•THON weather was PERFECT!  If you attended the event, you saw all 645 (students/staff) walking and running around our school track for 2+ hours.  Amanda Impens (Chairperson) and her staff of volunteers set up a water station and a series of obstacle courses (Ninja Warrior theme) for the participants.  It was a perfect day for a well-organized and fun event.  A video of the event highlights can be found below the calendar.

The funds raised by our students (and graciously donated by you and your family/friends), go toward supporting our school family social events and learning programs.  Some events:  Popcorn Days (all school, once a month), Reading Counts (motivational reading program and prizes), Raz-Kids (online reading program for K-3), Library Books, Prizes for Millionaire Word Club, Prizes for MobyMax Winners (another learning incentive program, GAGA PIT set up (Playground game), materials and equipment for MUSIC, PE, ART; Frames for our permanent student artwork exhibit, and MUCH MUCH MORE.    If you ever have a question about how to be involved in PARENT CLUB (beyond donating money), please attend a meeting or contact a board member.  All contact information and meeting dates found on Parent Club tab above.

WALK•A•THON winners will be announced this week via school announcement and posted on the blog.  We are still in the process of counting money and tallying results.

Our first POPCORN FRIDAY is October 2.  The popcorn is made with a nut-free oil.  If your cartoon-popcorn-1041child cannot have popcorn for any reason, please notify your child’s teacher.

Friday is also HOMECOMING DAY.  All staff/students will be dressing in BLUE/GOLD EAGLE’s Wear/Colors.  The SUPER FANS from Hudsonville High School will visit our school at 10:3o to show our students what it means to be an EAGLE FAN!  We are hoping for nice weather so we can meet them outside for this event.

Finally, another highlight of Friday:  THE HOMECOMING GAME and FUN FEST aredunk tank this Friday, October 2.  Events include 50/50 Raffle and a Staff Dunk Tank and much more.  Check out this flyer 2015-HEF Fun Fest poster for more event details.  Our two PE Teachers (Mrs. VanKoevering and Mrs. Nienhuis will be first in the DUNK TANK at 4:30 on Friday.  To have a shot and getting them in the tank, be there with your warmed up pitching arm!  They love to be in the water, so we need you there to make this happen!

Have a great weekend!
