Week 3: Sept 10-14, 2018

We are gradually working our way up to a five day week.  We started with three days, then four days.  This week we get to try out four and a half days!  It’s a beautiful way to ease our bodies and minds into the work of school.  I have appreciated it because every year I am amazed at how fun and exhausting it can be to start the school year.

We continue to work on our school routines and as the teachers build relationships, they are also beginning to assess each child in reading, writing and math skills.  We use this information to build instruction that meets each child’s needs.  We want to start with what each child knows and build on that knowledge.

You may have also heard from your child that we are building in frequent breaks (outside when weather permits) and throughout the day in the classroom.  Many of our teachers use movement and stretches that incorporate balance and breathing.  As teachers and as learners, we know that our brains need movement, hydration and air to improve learning.

On Friday of this week, I welcomed our new students in grades 1-5:  Twenty Five Students in Total.  I gave each a donut and time to meet/greet one another.  I also took their photos for the ONLY ONE YOU BOARD — found across from the library.  During the year, every student will appear on this board!  Photos of our 25 new students are at the top of this post!

Remember Friday is our first early release day!  School will dismiss between 12:05-12:10. If you drive your child to school, please pick up between 12:05-12:15.    Busses will depart school at 12:15.

Enjoy your weekend!
