Week 35: May 13-17, 2019

Why doing school work this afternoon, it dawned on me that we have just four weeks remaining  — 19 school days!  This year has FLOWN by…and as usual we feel like we need more time to do everything that we hoped to accomplish this year.

As exciting as it is to look back on all that the children have learned in the past year, it is difficult to wrap up and say our farewells to our class families.  We know that the end of the year can increase anxiety for some kids, so we are doing our best to maintain schedules while at the same time preparing kids for their transition from a school schedule to a summer schedule.

As we get closer to the end, there will be posts from me and your classroom teachers (visit class blogs) about suggestions for summer learning and activities.  We encourage all parents to devote some time everyday to helping your child’s brain stay engaged in learning.

This week we have a special event for all 5th graders:  FIFTH GRADE CAMP at Camp Henry.  They leave Thursday morning and return Friday early evening.  It is an amazing experience at a beautiful facility.  Thank you to all parents who are chaperoning and the PTC who supports our camp funding.

A BIG BIG APPRECIATION shout out to all parents and the PTC for making our week last week extra special with snacks, lunches and kind notes throughout the week.  As you know, those who go into education give much more than 8 hours per day.  Those hours are student contact hours that are 100% focused on meeting learning, emotional and social needs.  The prep work for this takes place after hours — and often involves use of personal funds for material purchases or course work.  Your works of appreciation give us the fuel we need to know that what we’re doing makes a difference.

Wrapping with warm wishes for all mothers of all kinds on this mother’s day weekend.  I hope you have time to relax and be appreciated!

Warmly,

Mrs. Reagan
