WELCOME BACK to Week 1: August 26-29, 2019

Many thanks to all of you for attending the 2019-20 Kindergarten and Gr 1-5 Open Houses!  We had record attendance and MANY SMILING faces.  The photos in the video above highlight some of the smiling kindergarteners as well as staff who are excited to  support your children this year.

I want to give a shout out to Mike Parnacott, a parent and Sysco employee, who on behalf of his company donated 100 pounds of popcorn to our school.  This donation, along with your open house donations, will allow us to provide popcorn to all children every early release Friday throughout the year.

Our first day is Monday, August 26.  We will have supervision on all playgrounds beginning at 8:30.  The first bell rings at 8:45 and the second at 8:50.  Our goal is to have all children inside by 8:55.  Teachers will carry signs with their names and we’ll have extra staff outside to help all children find their teachers and line up spots.

The first day of school at Georgetown is yALL HANDS on DECK approach to helping all the kids find their new line up spots. This continues for two weeks as we work to help everyone feel good about putting their backpacks in line, playing and then when the whistle blows, go to their backpacks and walk into school as a classes.

We are prepared for a few tears (from both parents and children) and also have our hearts ready to support the transition to school.  We understand how hard it is to leave your child with us for seven hours each weekday — so we work hard to make sure you know that we are focused on making sure we care for each child just as we would want a team to care for our children.

We will be doing many activities to build routines and get to know one another through this week and next.  The transition from summer to school is exhausting — so be prepared to have a snack, some liquids and a hug ready for their arrival home at the end of the day.

Enjoy this beautiful weekend of August sunshine.  Here’s to a great start to the year!
