HAPPY SUMMER!

The final day has arrived and we are filling the morning with emptying lockers, desks, book bins and every nook and cranny of the building with kids precious belongings.  We are also saying farewell to 5th graders and ‘See You Next Year’ to our kids in grades K-4.

Every last day of school, Mr. Rob creates a crazy, fun collection of goodies to put on the display in the rotunda. This year, he chose a campfire theme.  The office team is posed above to say, “PEACE OUT and HAVE AN AWESOME SUMMER EVERYONE!

KEEP ON LEARNING THIS SUMMER!

LEARN THIS SUMMER!  Devote just 15 minutes a day to reading and 15 to MOBYMAX so you are on top of learning at the beginning of the year.  Remember…we are using a new sign in system called clever.  Here are the steps for using it.

And…here is how to learn over the summer:

  • Reading:  Log into  this form  to record the number of minutes you read.  You can record each day or enter the total for each week.
  • MOBYMAX Math and Reading:  We recommend that each child consistently use MobyMax each week in the core areas of reading and mathematics. If interesting, you can also choose to work on other learning modules.  Spending just a few minutes each day on Mobymax will help to reduce  “summer slide” and keep your child’s learning skills fresh over the summer.

Our goals for students over the summer are below.  Students who reach or exceed goals are entered into a drawing for an AMAZON GIFT CARD — 1 per grade.  Point goals below are for the student grade in 2017-18.

Reading Minutes Link

Week 38: Wrapping Up the School Year

              Our 2016-17 Fifth Grade Class

We have sent the past year (39 weeks total), growing together as learners, friends, team members and problem solvers.  Georgetown is a school made up of 560 students (K-5) and 48 staff members — 600+ people ages 5-60 working closely to establish routines for walking in the hall, recess play, lunchroom respect, sharing, learning and negotiating anything and everything imaginable.

And, this is all done with the demands of a tight schedule.  Everything in the school in dictated by the clock — bus pick up, bus departure, specials, lunch, recess, snack breaks, reading, math, science, social studies, spelling, writing, assessments, state testing — down to the minute.  This is only possible with a committed and flexible staff, highly trained teachers, supportive Parent Club and parents and the best  children on the planet!

I want to wrap this year up by honoring all the amazing, beautiful, one-of-a-kind individuals that make our school a wonderful family.  Please take some time to look at all the gorgeous faces that make up on school in the video above.  I take these photos throughout the year and place them on the Joyful Learners board — and we watch it grow all year-long.  Each photo represents a beautiful human being — one with a heart, soul and special personality… and each one an equally important part of our school family.

We say goodbye to 90 phenomenal 5th graders this week (photo of the group at the top) and we’ll miss them greatly.   We don’t want to let them go…but it’s time.  They are ready for middle school.

The schedule for our week is below.  Remember…half day on Friday.  Dismissal at 12:15.  Before I wrap up, I want to remind you to check out the GOT TALENT performers in the two prior posts.  Links here:

Have a wonderful weekend…and here’s to a fantastic final week of school!  As always, thank you for sharing your beautiful children with us this past year.

Got Talent 2017 – AFTERNOON Show

The afternoon GOT TALENT SHOW was a repeat of the morning show…OUTSTANDING ENTERTAINMENT!  Our MC’s, Peyton and Aiden, were impressive for their maturity and polished speaking skills. I think they both have a future in public performance!

Show above is a collection of photos from both the morning and afternoon shows.  A shout out to my video/photo team:  Gavin, Bryce, and Caleb.  You were KEY to the historical recording of both events — and appreciated by me and family members of the GOT TALENT performers.

List below are links to videos of the afternoon performances.  If you cannot find your child’s video it is because you did not complete the permission to share video that sent to your email this past week.

Got Talent 2017 – Morning Show

The morning GOT TALENT SHOW was OUTSTANDING!  The performers….TOP NOTCH!  Prior to the morning show, some of your featured performers appeared on a VIDEO TAPED production, which is the featured video above.  Shown above:  Bucket Drumming, Comedy SKIT, Joke Skit, TAE KWONDO, Soccer Comedy, PUPPET SHOW, Bucket Drumming and Basketball.

Our MC’s, Mallory and Eric, were funny, poised and professional.  They made the show run smoothly and as a result, audience participation was the most respectful, supportive and enthusiastic ever.
