Poor, Poor Mr. Bowen!

As the loser of the Coin War, our resident MSU FAN (Mr. Bowen) had to wear University of Michigan apparel today.  Because he doesn’t own any U of M wear,  Mr. Kooiker and some kind souls took care of making sure he was dressed well.

Thank you to everyone for your donation of coins — the total weight of 282 will add up to a lot of money for our ALL FOR BOOKS Book Fair Program.   Your donations of coins raised $ 1,821.96!   A•M•A•Z•I•N•G!

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!!pump thumbs up

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. It is hard to believe but we are already in the end of October!!  SCARY! The MEAP testing is all done and they have been sent back for the official scoring.  I think the students AND the teachers are relieved this is over for another year!!  The students did a great job.  Hold on tight for a very busy week next week.  It starts MONDAY with the TURKEY TROT, WEDNESDAY with the COIN WAR CHALLENGE/UNIVERSITY APPAREL and THURSDAY with HALLOWEEN PARTIES!!  It will be a whirlwind and thank goodness we will have FRIDAY OFF to regroup after the busy week!  : )

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH……….. With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district is closed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow day will be moved to the next school day.  An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday.  Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on Twitter or the foodservice web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! ~ Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director.

Settling into Routines

Week 8
Week 8

Now that we are into the 8th Week of school, our routines for learning and playing are well established.   In addition, the MEAP TESTS (grades 3-5) are completed which brings a huge sigh of relief for those who have been attached to their #2 pencils for days.

As we work through the month of October and into November, you will be hearing more from your classroom teachers about the following projects:  BE NICE FEEL SAFE at Georgetown (Bully Prevention) and MINDFUL GIVING:  PE CARES + ALL FOR BOOKS Competition.

BE NICE • FEEL SAFE:  As a staff, we use the OLWEUS Program as a foundation for building a school climate that is safe and one that also holds those accountable for poor choices.  We survey our students about the school climate and use these results to guide us in our class discussion.    Class meetings in the next few weeks will identify horse play, rough play and other behaviors that can get aggressive and lead to bullying.   Everyone plays a role in preventing aggressive behavior — and we will talk about important roles people can assume.  A great resource defining these roles can be found on the stopbullying.gov site.

MINDFUL GIVING:  PE CARES  Our PE teachers will be asking for food donations for our local food pantry.  Class who donates the most canned/dried food wins a class tript to Hudsonville Bowling Lanes.More information about this will come home soon.

michiganMINDFUL GIVING:  BOOKS FOR ALL  To help raise money for BOOKS for ALL for stateour Nov 4-7 BOOK FAIR, we will hold a MSU/UofM Coin War.  More details coming soon on this.  Hint:  If MSU fans bring in more coins, Mr. Kooiker will wear MSU colors on Wednesday, Oct 30.  If UofM fans bring in more coins, Mr. Bowen will wear UofM colors on Wednesday, Oct 30.

Watch for more details about all of these events through the school blog and class blogs in October and November.

Here’s to a great week ahead!

Thank you for such a great support of our BLUE/GOOD Spirit Day.  We hosted the SUPER FANS in the morning in the Rotunda.  The video above highlights the festivities!

The day ended with HEF festivities outside of Eagle’s Stadium.  Many of you came out to support this event–and even took a turn at trying to dunk Mrs. Stadt, Mr. Ceglarek and Mr. Kooiker!  Photos are in a special slideshow at the end of this post.

We have our final week of MEAP for grades 3,4,5 this week.  The students will be taking Math (3,4,5), Writing (4) and Science (5).  The tests are grueling — long and intense with our students putting their best effort into all the tests.  Please make sure your child is well rested for these tests.

Have a great week!  Remember we have another PIZZA night on Wednesday.
