Georgetown Actors Shine

Laini, Brianna and Annalicia

Last night, my daughter and I attended a performance of ANNIE at Evergreen Ministries in Hudsonville.  The highlight of the performance was watching our Georgetown students perform and participate in the production.

Laini VandenHoek, Annalicia Hoekwater and Brianna Hoekwater were standout actresses in their roles.  We also watched members of the Gelder family work the sound equipment with Kelsey doing an amazing job with the snow machine.

It was a wonderful evening–and a great opportunity for me to see our Georgetown students shine outside of school.

BLOG BITS 12/7/12

BLOG BITS 12/7/12……….  Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE ……….  Let the count down continue……… 10 school days until Christmas break!!  This just does not seem possible.  It was a pretty quiet week here this week.  We have been  seeing a lot of illness again here at Georgetown.  The symptoms we are seeing the most of are vomiting, fever and sore throat.  The fever has been lingering on average for 3-4 days.  So please remember to follow the 24 hour rule when it comes to vomiting and fevers.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM DVD’S………….  Just a friendly reminder that we will NO longer be accepting orders for these.  If you did not get a chance to order one please CONTACT WCET at 669-3332.  Thank you.

CALL INS and LATE ARRIVALS…………  Please try to remember to call in for your student if they are not going to be attending school for the day OR even if they will be a late arrival.  Especially with illnesses on the rise right now, we have been needing to make more phone calls home to check on students who are not accounted for.  With 625 students in this building it can take quite a while to get through attendance.  If you can help us with this matter that would be great!  Please remember you can call the office number 24/7 and leave us a message.  Thank you  : )

STUDENT EARLY PICK-UP……….  In regards to students getting picked up early for appointments, etc. we are going to be doing things a little differently here in the office.  Please STILL continue to send a note to the teacher informing them that you will picking up your student early.  This will help to ensure that the students are ready for pick up.  However, as far as the office goes we WILL NOTcall the student down to the office until you are here to sign them out.  We have just been seeing more that we call the student down and then they are not picked up on time and they end up missing more of their instructional time in class.  Our suggestion to you as parents is to arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure that you leave on time with your student.  Thank you.

December Has Arrived

Milo and Cooper on the Holland beach.

While walking along the Lake Michigan shoreline today, I had to remind myself that it was December 2.  The air was heavy with a spring like mist, the water calm and the temperatures in the mid 50’s.   Milo and Cooper spent most of their time chasing sea gulls and digging in the sand.

The high tomorrow is forecasted to be 60 degrees which means we will be finding jackets, mittens and hats scattered about the playground!  Tuesday will be colder — and then milder again by the end of the week.   The unpredictable weather patterns continue — and our lost and found collection is a reflection of this.  Be sure to check for missing sweatshirts, hats, mittens and scarves when you are in the building.  The lost and found tables are outside the library.

A snapshot of some of our events for the coming week is below.  We have Jet’s Pizza night on Tuesday — and other than this a rather uneventful week ahead.  The Secret Santa Holiday Shop will be next week (December 10-13).  This is a great opportunity for your children to buy gifts for family members.  It is my favorite PTC sponsored event of the year!

Many thanks again for all your support for our Holiday Program at FairHaven Ministries on Tuesday of last week. The children and music teachers were amazing and I hope you found the program to be enjoyable and a great kick off to the holidays.  The WCET broadcast times have been expanded.  You can view the time options here.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Reagan

Holiday Program…Counting Down!

As I type this post, it is less than 24 hours until our very special holiday program.  I couldn’t resist another post.  This one will help me pass my record posts on the program that I achieved last year!

I wanted to clarify the “entry” time for the K-2 program.  In my attempt to make sure that people didn’t arrive too early and camp out in the church, I created too tight of a timeline on one communication.  So here’s the scoop:

  • The main doors to the church open at 6:00 pm.
  • The doors to the sanctuary seating area open at 6:15 pm.  This is also the time that we need you to drop your K-2 children off in their rooms.
  • The program begins at 6:30 pm.

For our Grade 3-5 performance:

  • Please drop your children off in their staging room at 7:30 pm.
  • Program begins at 7:45 pm.

Hello Stanstead Primary School!

Miss Robertson’s Year 4 Class

Miss VanArkel’s class skyped with a third grade class (Year 4) in Nottingham, England.

Miss Robertson, the classroom teacher at Stanstead Primary, has visited Georgetown on two occasions in the past.  She was very excited to introduce her group of 18 students to our class of 25 students.

The students had the following questions for us:

  1. Why do we call rugby football?
  2. Why do we call football soccer?
  3. Why don’t we wear uniforms?
  4. What are our ages?
  5. What are our names?
  6. How many children are in our building?
  7. How many teachers are in our building?
  8. How do we get to school?
  9. What are our favorite colors?

We looked up Stanstead Primary on Google Earth and got as close as we could to taking a peak.  Because the Google Mapping Car has not driven down the street, we aren’t able to get close up…but we are able to get close enough.

As we wrapped up our skype session, the children at Stanstead were preparing to go home for the day — they are six hours ahead of us!

Look for more news from the children in YEAR 4 on Miss VanArkel’s blog during the upcoming school year.
