MARCO’S PIZZA NIGHT with DECORATED PIZZA BOXES!

Dear Parents and Students,Picture 1

Marco’s Pizza and Georgetown Elementary will be sponsoring Pizza Nights January 18 and 19. Each child has designed their own pizza box at school which will be available for parents to order in, on Tuesday and Wednesday (carryout or delivery).

This program will help Georgetown Elementary earn extra money for textbooks, equipment, field trips, etc.

This program will work similar to our other pizza nights you have participated in and will allow each child to create an art project. Box nights are fun for everyone and our most successful fund raising events. To ensure the best possible service and experience, we have divided the school into 2 separate ordering nights.

Kindergarten through 2nd grade order on Tuesday, Janurary 18. Grades 3 through 5 order on Wednesday, January 19.

You may order on either night you need to (i.e. conflict or siblings in different grades). It will be busy, so please try to order on your night and allow extra time for this fun event.

Thanks a ton!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLKWe remember many historical events throughout the year with national holidays.  The third Monday in January honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is the day that we remember him for his civil rights leadership and a time to learn about the importance of traits of  equality, compassion and understanding.

One way to celebrate and honor Martin Luther King Jr is through a community service project.

Kaboose, an online Disney website, provides family friendly ways to talk about and discuss MLK’s work.

WOO-HOO it is Christmas Break Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…. Wow, can you  believe it?!  It is Christmas Break already and we have two weeks off!  YIPPEE!!  Our Holiday Program was another huge success.  We had a great turnout as usual and all of the students did a great job.  It was a great night.  The school has just been a buzz with all of the holiday festivities going on around here.  The parties all went well.  So enjoy the time off, rest, relax and enjoy your kids while they are home with you and we will be ready to go when January 3 rolls around.

BEFORE SCHOOL DROP OFF ….. This is just a friendly reminder from the office staff and the morning staff who are on the playgrounds before school.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE….. when dropping your students off in the morning make sure they walk around the building on the sidewalk to their playground. I KNOW it is cold now in the morning, however, the students should be dressing warm enough to be out on the playground before school. In the office we keep track of the temperature and the wind chill factor every morning to make sure it is not too cold outside for the kids.  So the students should not be walking through the building in the morning before school, but going straight to their playground.  Thanks for your help and support with this matter.

ART ROOM NEWS….. Please visit the art room blog to get further information in regards to the upcoming Marco’s Pizza Night in January.  The students are decorating pizza boxes that if you order pizza that night it will be delivered/picked-up in THEIR pizza box!  How cool is that.  The Marco’s dates are January 18 and 19!    Please click here for a direct link to the art room blog   ART ROOM

elf04FOOD SERVICE NEWS…… New Notification System for Lunch Accounts – Starting on January 3, 2011,  any parent that has an email address on file with the Hudsonville Schools PowerSchool system will automatically receive an email notice when their child’s lunch account has a low balance.  The low balance amount is $2.00 for paid children and $.80 for reduced children.  Once your child’s account drops to either of these amounts, you will receive an email letting you know that you need to send in more money.  You will also get a notice when your child’s account has a zero or negative amount. These notifications will be sent out Monday through Friday.  If you do not want to receive these email notifications, you need to contact Stacey Wykoski at swykoski@hpseagles.net by Friday December 31 to have this feature removed from your child’s account.  Please include your child’s first name, last name and grade in the email. Please feel free to contact Stacey at 667-3352 or swykoski@hpseagles.net if you have any questions.

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH………With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district isclosed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow
day will be moved to the next school day. An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday. Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on the food service web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! -Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director.

Girls on the Run, 2011

We have been fortunate for the past two years to host a chapter of the National Girls on the Run Program at Georgetown Elementary.

A Liaison (organizer) and Coaches are being organized for this year’s spring Girls on the Run Program.  If you are interested, please contact SARAH  BOLMAN at  616.494.1719

Liaison and Coaches assist with the following:

Program Start-up:

  • Promoting the program to students and parents by assisting in the distribution of registration information and informing appropriate families of scholarship opportunities.
  • They will also assist in identifying and reserving space for GOTR teams to practice and store their shoes, as well as identifying potential coaches.

On-going Responsibilities:

  • Throughout the season the liaison will be in contact as needed with the Program Coordinator and their on-site coaches to ensure those participants and their parents are informed of any last minute schedule changes.  It will normally be the coach’s responsibility to inform parents of changes; however, in the event that the coach is unable to do this it will be the liaison’s responsibility to make sure that they are informed accordingly.

Additional information can be found at this location:  GOTR

You can register your daughter online or in person:

  • Online registration for this program runs  from January 1-27, 2010.  This program is available to girls in grades 3-5, with practices beginning in February, and a 5K race in May.
  • Local Registration will be held at Park Elementary in Hudsonville on January 7 form 3:45-6:30.
  • Print Friendly, PDF & Email
