The Week Ahead: Jan 24-28, 2011

The final week of January has arrived!  We continue to be very busy in our classrooms, focused on improving our learning skills across all content areas.

To stay on top of classroom learning and events, please visit your child’s class blog.  If you cannot find what you are looking for, email the teacher!   We want to make sure that you have easy access to information related to your child’s learning.

We are working very hard on our hallway climate–with extra focus on walking respectfully and quietly.    If you are volunteering to read with students or support learning in anyway at all, please feel free to ask students to walk quietly if you notice they need a reminder.

PJ Day 10Finally, I am happy to announce that one of the most popular theme days is one week away!  Our February 4 Popcorn Day will also be ALL SCHOOL PJ DAY.  Of course, this means that slippers and stuffed animals are welcome to join us at school.

To view a slide show of  PJ day 2009, visit this blog post:  PJ DAY 2009   You will be amazed at how much your child has grown in two years time.

Mark your calendars for this fun day.

Weekly Events: November 15, 2010

winter clothingWe have had very mild days of fall weather so far this school year and this has allowed us to have an extended season of recess ball field use for kick ball, soccer, baseball and football.  BUT…it sounds like the forecast for the upcoming week is more typical for November with rain, winds and possibly some snow showers by week’s end.

We would like all children to be properly dressed for recess with hats, gloves/mittens and winter jacket.  Once the snow arrives, boots are a MUST!

I hope you are aware through the blog updates that we have a very contagious stomach virus moving through our school.  The onset is quite rapid with reported symptoms of a headache and/or yucky tummy.  The vomiting hits quickly.  When one child in a classroom gets sick, in short order others are sick as well.

We are cleaning surfaces as often as we can throughout the day and sick childreminding EVERYONE to wash their hands frequently.  If you child becomes sick, please keep him/her home for at least 24 hours to help us prevent the spreading of this intestinal issue.   Thank you for your help!

A snapshot of the week ahead is below.  Remember to check your child’s class blog for more specific grade/class events.

Our Week Ahead: 11.8.2010

Many thanks to for your attendance at Parent/Teacher Conferences last week!  It was a busy time AND a very important time for us to meet with you and share all the great things that are happening in your child’s life at Georgetown.

As we look ahead to the tenth week of school, keep in mind that there will be a PTC meeting at 10 am, Thursday November 11 in the MPR.   We will be hosting this event live as a webinar for those that cannot attend due to work or daycare conflicts.  REGISTER HERE TO ATTEND PTC MEETING VIA WEBINAR

This week we have our very first all school assembly, THE FLYING ACES. All of PTC’s (district wide) fund two events per year, which provides educational presentations to all seven elementary buildings.

Here’s to a great week ahead! Mrs. Reagan

The Week Ahead: Nov 1-5, 2010

Welcome to November!  We kick off the week with Parent/Teacher Conferences.   Teachers will be available to meet with parents during scheduled times Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.  I will serve as the official “conference time keeper”, calling out the 15 minute end/beginning times on all of the evenings.

If you need to check on your child’s conference time, you can visit this web page version of the three day schedule or check your child’s class blog.

Our PTC is also sponsoring our Fall Book Fair.  This will be held in the Sensory Motor Room and will be open during conferences.  Carrie Clark-Berry, a parent of Georgetown graduates (Emily and Jack), is kindly operating the book fair this year and handing it a new team of parents for next year.  THANK YOU MRS. BERRY!

We have JET’s Pizza Night on Tuesday and Popcorn Day on Friday.  Also, if you have not brought in chapsticks for the Girl Scout Service Project, please do so by Friday.  This is the final collection day!

As we look ahead in the month, we will be moving our clocks back one hour (November 7), celebration Thanksgiving (Nov 24-28), and kicking off the PTC Holiday Gift Shop November 29.

Here’s to a great week ahead!   Mrs. Reagan

Final Week of October

JackolanternWe are heading into our eighth week of school and the final week of October, which as tradition dictates, concludes with Halloween celebrations.

The celebrations are held at varied times on Thursday and Friday.  If you plan to visit the classroom, please make sure you check your child’s class blog for calendar specifics.

We will be holding Parent/Teacher Conference next week Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday.   Teachers are posting conference times on their blogs and also confirming these via email.    It takes a great deal of time to schedule 560+ conferences, and coordinate these so that you can come on one night for all of your children.  If your assigned time does not work, please get in touch with your child’s teacher as soon as possible so that changes can be made.

I will be serving as the “conference time keeper”–calling out end times at each 15 minute interval.  This helps to keep everyone on time.

Have a great week!

Mrs. Reagan

The Week Ahead: March 1-3, 2010

This is a very short week of school for students and a very busy week for staff.  Parent/Teacher conferences will be held on Monday, March 1 (5-8); Tuesday, March 2 (4-6) and Wednesday, March 3 (4-6).  On March 4th, teachers are in scheduled staff development–and there is no school for students.  And, of course, winter break is on March 5th!

We are looking forward to seeing you this week and sharing all that your child has learned so far this year.  I will serve as the stop watch for the 15 minute conference periods, offering a friendly reminder that the conference time is ended.  This is done to politely keep teachers and parents on schedule.

Enjoy your weekend…and here’s to the first week of March!

The Half Way Mark: Week 20 of School

Where is this year going?   We are half way through the 2009-10 school year–and to me it seems that it is flying by!  As we look ahead to this week, please note that our all school PJ and Popcorn Day is this coming Friday!

In addition, the first parent meeting regarding changes in the programing for the Cognitively Impaired Program will be held at Park Elementary on Thursday at 4 pm.  An additional meeting will be held on February 1 at 7 pm.  The topic of the meetings will be identical.

Many, many thanks to all of you have contributed to the “SHOUT OUTS” for donations these past few weeks.  Every small donation for the Haiti victims, Takin’ Down Cancer Coin War and Bustin’ Through Books Collection is appreciated.

If you would like to donate to our Bustin’ Through Books collection, we are still taking $1.00 per student for books, old vinyl bean bags, and old books!  If you are a father who would like to read with the students during their reading time, complete our form online.

Two of our incredible Georgetown families have been in the news these past two weeks.  If you have missed the coverage , you can find links here:  Megan Assink, a survivor of Pompe’s Disease, and her family have been covered by many media outlets.  In addition, the Randolf Family welcomed home their forever adopted children from Haiti on Friday night.

Here’s to a great week ahead!

Weekly Events, 1/11/2010

We are headed into our 18th week of school!   With the holidays behind us, the winter months provide ample time for us to build uninterrupted focused time on learning higher level skills in reading, math, writing, science and social studies.  As writers, we will use these months to select a piece to be revised and published for our spring JUST WRITE CELEBRATION (Week of May 24, 2010).   Keep your eyes and ears posted to our classroom blogs for details about other learning events that will be taking place.

Have a terrific week!

First Week of the New Year!

As I look ahead to our first week of 2010, it looks like calm–a great way to help everyone ease back into the early morning wake up’s and full days of learning.   If your family life was anything like mine over the holidays, all of our schedules were disrupted:  sleep, eating, playing and traveling.

Getting back into “normal” routines and schedules for school can create anxiety for some children–and relief for others.  If your child is nervous about going back because of early bed times and anticipating the upcoming work load, ease the worries by explaining that other children and even teachers are feeling this way.

Do the best you can to get everyone back on more normal sleep and eating schedules as soon as possible.  Also, be sure to send healthy snacks to school so that teachers can make sure that everyone has a morning break to hydrate and refuel.

Finally, the beautiful snowy weather has created a winter wonderland on our playground.  Please make sure that your child has all necessary winter clothing so that recess time can be comfortable and fun!

Here’s to a great start to the New Year!
