JET’S PIZZA NIGHT TONIGHT!!!

72-426373804Good Afternoon Georgetown Parents!!!

Just wanted to remind all of you that TONIGHT is JET’S PIZZA NIGHT!  Take a night off from cooking and enjoy pizza, all while raising money for Georgetown.  It can’t get any easier than that!  Just think if you have conferences tonight you can just swing right on by Jet’s and pick up dinner when you are finished.

DO NOT forget to mention your student’s teacher’s name when placing your order!  The classroom that raises the most amount of money will win a classroom pizza party!!  Woo-hoo!

Let’s try and beat our last Jet’s Pizza night!  I know we can do it!!  GO GEORGETOWN!!

Have a great night!   Mrs. Nurenbergpizza-slice

Conferences and Lost & Found

reportcardWe completed our first night of Parent/Teacher Conferences on Monday. This was one of our busiest nights of the week, with most teachers meeting with parents until 8:30 or 9:00 pm.

Thank you for attending and participating in this very important event.  Your perspective on your child’s learning and social/emotional growth is so very important to us.

We look forward to seeing more parents over the next two nights.lostfound While you are walking to and from the classrooms, please look through the lost and found tables which are located across from the library entrance.  There are many items on these tables and we would love to match them with their rightful owners!

Facebook Private Tips

Like Facebook, but wish your information wasn’t so public? Time to lock your settings down. Facebook doesn’t make this easy, however; features are constantly added and the default for each new one seems to favor transparency instead of privacy.

The result: there are hundreds of little changes you need to make to truly control where your information goes.

Enter “The (Very) Unofficial Facebook Privacy Manual”. This handy guide outlines everything you could ever want to know about locking down your privacy on Facebook, and a few things you probably didn’t even know you wanted to know.

If you use Facebook you should read this guide, if only to understand how public most of your information is.

Typhoon Megi Hits Raey Guang

On October 23,  Typhoon Megi hit our sister school Raey GuangMeg 1 Elementary.  The teachers sent me photos to show the clean up work and the students have written stories in English to share with you.

I have linked this this to a RAEY GUANG NEWS page above. The students from Raey Guang would love to read your Meg 3thoughts and comments.  This helps them to practice their reading of English.

They are following our blog and the teacher blogs…and would love to hear from us!

The Week Ahead: Nov 1-5, 2010

Welcome to November!  We kick off the week with Parent/Teacher Conferences.   Teachers will be available to meet with parents during scheduled times Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.  I will serve as the official “conference time keeper”, calling out the 15 minute end/beginning times on all of the evenings.

If you need to check on your child’s conference time, you can visit this web page version of the three day schedule or check your child’s class blog.

Our PTC is also sponsoring our Fall Book Fair.  This will be held in the Sensory Motor Room and will be open during conferences.  Carrie Clark-Berry, a parent of Georgetown graduates (Emily and Jack), is kindly operating the book fair this year and handing it a new team of parents for next year.  THANK YOU MRS. BERRY!

We have JET’s Pizza Night on Tuesday and Popcorn Day on Friday.  Also, if you have not brought in chapsticks for the Girl Scout Service Project, please do so by Friday.  This is the final collection day!

As we look ahead in the month, we will be moving our clocks back one hour (November 7), celebration Thanksgiving (Nov 24-28), and kicking off the PTC Holiday Gift Shop November 29.

Here’s to a great week ahead!   Mrs. Reagan

BLOG BITS 10/29/10

Happy Friday before Halloween!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…… Wow, what a busy day here at Georgetown!  It was party day and there was just a flurry of parents in and out of the building all day!  We are so sorry that Mrs. Ripley and Mrs. Nurenberg had to miss all the fun, however, they did call in a couple of fun PE subs to fill in in the office, a.k.a Mz. Ripster and Mz. Nurdie!

Conference Time……  Conference dates and times arates ane as follows…. November 1, 5pm to 8:30pm; November 2, 4pm to 6pm; and November 3, 4pm to 6pm. Teachers had a staff meeting last night to do scheduling for conferences, so please be watching for your conference time to be coming home.  PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND TABLE ON YOUR WAY PAST THE LIBRARY.

NOTES FOR THE TEACHER……  Parents this is a reminder from the staff and the office here at Georgetown.  We MUST have a note in order for your student to have a change in their transportation at the end of the day.  The teachers, rightfully so, have a hard time with all of the changes that are being made at the last minute at the end of the day!  If we DO NOT have a note stating that there is a change in plans for the end of the day the student will be sent home with their usual mode of transportation!  Remember, not only does this inconvenience you, but we are also first and foremost concerned for the student’s safety when they arrive home!  We have had to make many phone calls at the end of the day due to students saying they are being picked up, but really they were supposed to go home as usual.  The office is very busy at the end of the day and the teachers do not have time to be double checking everyone’s schedule.  Thank you for your consideration in this very important matter.

AFTERSCHOOL BIBLE CLUB…. For those students participating in this activity there will be NO Bible Club next MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST!

PE NEWS…… Well were sorry about having to cancel the Turkey Trot this year, but we still have some winners here from Georgetown that were drawn out of the hat.  Here they are:  TURKEY WINNERS – Paige Gradowski (2-Kuieck), Alyssa Walker (3-Greenlund), Jakob Wortman (K-Bohl); APPLE CIDER WINNERS – Celia Barber (2-Quigley), Anna Fumarolo (K-Jabaay), Kelsey Gelder (4-Huizenga); PUMPKIN WINNERS – Kenzey Burget (1-Stadt), Colton Roby (3-VanArkel), and Ashley Strick (2-Quigley).

PTC NEWS….. We have Box Top winners to announce and the winners of the Marco’s Pizza night from last Wednesday.  BOX TOP WINNERS are as follows:  EARLY CHILDHOOD WING – Dylan Ham (1-Stadt), Addison Jeltema (1-Woodring); 2ND/3RD GRADE WING – Jaron Dykstra (2-Quigley), Elizabeth Ball (2-Kuieck);  4TH/5TH GRADE WING – Brendan Ham (4-Bowen); Emilee Peterson (4-Huizenga).  These lucky winners all receive a $5 gift certificate to McDonald’s!

The winning classroom that will be receiving a class pizza party is MISS TABER’S room.  Georgetown Elementary will be getting $116 from Marco’s.  Way to go families for helping to support Georgetown like this!  You are the best!

Don’t forget Jet’s night is next Tuesday, November 2! What a great dinner plan for conference night.

Please indicate if you plan to use the child care and the ages and number of children.
AFTER SCHOOL BIBLE CLUB…….  REMEMBER NO BIBLE CLASS ON MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1!An After School Bible Club is coming to Georgetown.  This will be starting on MONDAY, OCTOBER 25.  It will be held in the Multi-Purpose Room here at Georgetown on Mondays from 3:40p to 4:30p.  Parents must provide transportation home after the class.  The club will be offered through March or April.  There is no charge for the club.  This club is being offered through BCM International Western Michigan, a nondenominational organization.  If you have any questions please call BCM at 616-457-3840.  If your child plans on attending please fill out the Registration form that will be outside of the Multi-Purpose in the rack.  They also want you to know that you may visit the Bible Club at any time.  Thank you!
Fire Coats 4 Kids – No Child Goes Cold…….. Georgetown Fire Department is starting our 2nd Annual “Fire Coats 4 Kids- No Child Goes Cold” Campaign.  Georgetown Township is the largest township in Ottawa County, with close to 50,000 residents.  Due to the current state of the economy there is a great need in the Jenison/Hudsonville school systems for winter coats.  In the 2010 school year there was an estimated 500 students in both school districts in need of assistance.  During this time, through donations from our generous community, we were able to collect and distribute over 800 coats to our school system and local charities.  This year we are hoping to match our successes from last year and collect new and gently used winter coats, gloves, and hats for the kids of Georgetown Township.
It’s easy to donate, we have three convenient locations:
GTFD Station 1: located on the corner of 44th St. and 14th Ave.
GTFD Station 2: located at 7518 Church St., just west of Main St.
GTFD Station 3: located south of Baldwin on 36th Ave.
Donations will be accepted at these locations until mid December.
Also you can donate at the Georgetown Twp. Library at 1525 Baldwin St.
Please join us on Tues. November 9 from 7 to 9pm at our Station 2 for our coat giveaway night.  If you are in need of a coat please RSVP to this event.  Questions, RSVP’s, or pick-ups, please contact: Brett Wright 616-706-4020 or Corrie Glupker 616-862-4001. Thanks.
