Good Last Friday afternoon of February!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

CONFERENCES….. Parents  don’t forget that we have parent/teacher conferences next week on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings.  You should have received a notice from your student’s  teacher as to your date and time.  If you have any questions in regards to your time or date please contact your child’s teacher.

PARENT DROP-OFF…. when dropping your children off in the morning before school in the circle drive they need to be instructed to walk around the building to their individual playground.  We are having too many students entering the building through the front doors and then are not going outside to  their playground.  We just cannot have students lingering in the building before school.  We do have supervision outside for the students and they let the students in when it is time.  If you are dropping off after the 1st bell (8:40am) has sounded then the children may enter through the front of the building.  (Just a reminder if it is raining or the wind chill is below zero we do allow the students to enter the building.)

CLASSROOM BASKET RAFFLE…. this will be taking place again this year during conferences next week.  These will be out for display and you may purchase tickets for $1/ticket.  Tickets will be available for student’s to purchase also during their lunch time.  The winners of the baskets will be announced the following week and the proceeds from this fundraiser will be donated back to your child’s classroom.

MOTHER/DAUGHTER POTTERY…..  this will be available to pick up during conferences next week.  The PTC will have it set up on tables for you to just swing in and pick up.  Thanks for being patient!

SPRING BOOK FAIR….  Our spring book fair will take place from March 15-19.  This will be held this time in our Sensory Motor Room. Family Shopping Night will be held on Tuesday, March 16.  Please feel free to visit our Scholastic Home Page for book reviews, etc. at http://bookfairs.scholastic.com/homepage/georgetownelementary.

Pen Pal Update

penpalFor those of you who have been patiently waiting to hear from your Taiwanese Pen Pal, please read this email I received from Helen, one of the teachers at Raey Guang:

Dear Mrs. Reagan,
I’m very happy to hear from you again and I’m doing fine. Thank you. The reason that your students received no feedback from any one of our students is because we were on winter vacation. And our students need the assistance from English teachers to read and write you back. We’re going to start the pen pals activity this afternoon. I’m sure that your kids will soon receive information from us.

I’m very excited to tell you that we’re making a plan to visit Georgetown Elementary next year!  I will write more later.

Helen

If you have not heard from your pen pal by March 5, please get in touch with me and I will email Helen again.  Also, this is exciting news that teachers will be visiting Georgetown!  I will let you know details once I receive them from Helen.

A Wise and Thoughtful Six Year Old

dr. joeThis past week, I listened to a StoryCorps feature about a doctor who runs a clinic for homeless people in Miami.  Dr. Joe learned one of life’s most important lessons while treating a mother and her small children at a Salvation Army Shelter.  I thought I would share this inspirational story with you.  It is a reminder to me why the thoughts and actions of children often help me look at life more positively!

To read or listen to this story, click on the passage below:

Dr. Pedro “Joe” Greer has been practicing medicine for more than 25 years. He’s devoted most of that time to helping Miami’s homeless and poor — many of whom know him as simply “Dr. Joe.”

Last Week of February

The week ahead looks calm—and a perfect way to close out this month.   I love that the days are getting longer and we are creeping ever so slowly toward spring.

Remember that Parent/Teacher Conferences are next week, March 1-3.  Also, we will not have school on March 4 and 5 due to a combination of professional development for teachers and winter break.

Here’s to a great week ahead!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

Wow what a Friday!  Popcorn day and Freddie Fusion rocked the house!!  : )  Make sure you ask you kids about the assembly they had today.   We do not have a whole lot of new news this week, but please take the time to just read through things to make sure nothing has been missed!

FAMILY FARE REMINDER………THE FIRST WEEK IS THIS COMING MONDAY!! Family Fare has just given us our “Cash for Class” dates.  Please help support our school as you do your grocery shopping during these dates.  The first dates that will be coming up are February 21-27. The second week for this event will be held from April 18-24.This is a great way to help out our school without even having to go out of your way!

JIMMY JOHN’S NIGHT…….  Please come out and support Georgetown!  This coming Tuesday, February 23, will be our second Jimmy John’s Night.  We will receive a portion of the nightly sales.  We will be sending home reminder notes with youngest and only on Monday.  Please don’t forget to give them your teacher’s name when placing the order.  The event will take place from 5p-9p!  DON’T FORGET THEY DELIVER!!  : )

BOX TOPS….. A new program is available through Box Tops for Education called ‘My Class Essentials’.  Many of our teachers have created a registry for their class using My Class Essentials.  The registry is filled with items and supplies needed for their classroom.  Parents can view their child’s classroom registry, purchase the items that are needed or donate money to the classroom registry.  The classroom, students, and teachers get the items they need and our school earns a 2% cash donation on every purchase.

Please visit btfe.com/myclassessentials to search for your teacher’s registry today and help your child’s classroom!  If you have any questions, please contact Angel Truman at Angeltruman@sbcglobal.net.

4th GRADE FIELD TRIP ….  Just to clarify things for parents and students.  The upcoming field trip for the 4th graders to Lansing will be held on WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17.  The students will be traveling on Cardinal Charter buses and will be leaving school around 9am.  The students do get back to Georgetown around 4:30pm so they will need to be picked up by a parent or guardian.
