Cheese Sandwich Rule

Bologna Sandwich clipartEven if a child forgets their lunch or if their lunch, we want to make sure that they are fed.  Our food service department provides cheese sandwiches when these events occur.

The Jen/Hud Food Service Department also sends account notices to families if the balance is past due.  They do all they can to keep parents informed.

Again, we want all children to have lunch each school day so we will do all we can to make sure they are provided with a healthy option.

If you want to check your child’s lunch account balance online, please go to this link:

Georgetown is Snowbound!

Due to the massive dumping of snow in our area, the road crews are having a tough time getting the roads cleared for busses.

As a result, school will be closed again tomorrow–Thursday, Feb 3.

Happy Snow Day # 2~

Amanda Troyer took a trip up to school to get a photo of our beautiful school buried in snow.

Mr. Rob, the custodial staff and our local plow services will be very busy all day tomorrow to so that we can be at school on Friday.  Remember, Friday is popcorn and PJ day!

The beautiful blue sky behind our building is stunning!  Great photography work, Mrs. Troyer.

MARCO’S PIZZA NIGHT with DECORATED PIZZA BOXES!

Dear Parents and Students,Picture 1

Marco’s Pizza and Georgetown Elementary will be sponsoring Pizza Nights January 18 and 19. Each child has designed their own pizza box at school which will be available for parents to order in, on Tuesday and Wednesday (carryout or delivery).

This program will help Georgetown Elementary earn extra money for textbooks, equipment, field trips, etc.

This program will work similar to our other pizza nights you have participated in and will allow each child to create an art project. Box nights are fun for everyone and our most successful fund raising events. To ensure the best possible service and experience, we have divided the school into 2 separate ordering nights.

Kindergarten through 2nd grade order on Tuesday, Janurary 18. Grades 3 through 5 order on Wednesday, January 19.

You may order on either night you need to (i.e. conflict or siblings in different grades). It will be busy, so please try to order on your night and allow extra time for this fun event.

Thanks a ton!

Martin Luther King, Jr.

MLKWe remember many historical events throughout the year with national holidays.  The third Monday in January honors Martin Luther King, Jr.

It is the day that we remember him for his civil rights leadership and a time to learn about the importance of traits of  equality, compassion and understanding.

One way to celebrate and honor Martin Luther King Jr is through a community service project.

Kaboose, an online Disney website, provides family friendly ways to talk about and discuss MLK’s work.

Tracking Santa’s Arrival

santa trackerThanks to the internet, and a tech savvy Santa, we can now track his journey from the North Pole to children’s homes throughout the world and then back again.

To track Santa from your home, visit the Santa Tracking System that is controlled my some very special Norad trained elves.  You can also visit Santa’s workshop.

The elves at Google received special permission from Santa Claus to share these helpful links:

From the Google Blog:

“There’s one timeless question that we’re proud to say we can help answer: Where in the world is Santa at this very moment? Thanks in part to recent advances in warp-speed GPS technology and some very clever elves (elveneering?) NORAD Tracks Santa is once again prepped and ready to go.”

The kids love it (Okay who am I kidding? This is really cool). As of tomorrow young and old alike can visit www.noradsanta.org to stalk Santa as he crosses the names of over 6 billion people off of his list. And because it’s the all-seeing GOOG you have multiple “Santa stalking” options. Yes really.

Google Map — Open Google Maps and search for “Santa NORAD” or just visit NoradSanta.org and get past the language screen. You can also watch a Santa cam here.

Google Earth Plugin – If you’ve got the Google Earth plugin, you can visit Noradsanta.org and click on Track Santa In Google Earth.

Santa Mobile — Visit m.noradsanta.org or complete the “Santa NORAD” search on Google Maps for mobile.

YouTube –  Of course, Santa has a YouTube channel.

Realtime Search — You can follow Santa on Twitter at @noradsanta, find him on Facebook hereand use Google’s realtime search for updates.

Apparently NORAD has been tracking Santa since 1955, hilariously because a telephone misprint in a Sears catalogue misdirected Santa hotline callers to a NORAD higher ups phone line. Google got in on the Santa tracking game in 2004 and partnered up with NORAD in 2007, bringing Google services like Maps, Earth and YouTube into the mix.

Okay seriously, does ANY tech company have more Christmas spirit than Google?

Update: For those in need of an even bigger Santa fix, here’s his privacy policy.

WOO-HOO it is Christmas Break Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…. Wow, can you  believe it?!  It is Christmas Break already and we have two weeks off!  YIPPEE!!  Our Holiday Program was another huge success.  We had a great turnout as usual and all of the students did a great job.  It was a great night.  The school has just been a buzz with all of the holiday festivities going on around here.  The parties all went well.  So enjoy the time off, rest, relax and enjoy your kids while they are home with you and we will be ready to go when January 3 rolls around.

BEFORE SCHOOL DROP OFF ….. This is just a friendly reminder from the office staff and the morning staff who are on the playgrounds before school.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE….. when dropping your students off in the morning make sure they walk around the building on the sidewalk to their playground. I KNOW it is cold now in the morning, however, the students should be dressing warm enough to be out on the playground before school. In the office we keep track of the temperature and the wind chill factor every morning to make sure it is not too cold outside for the kids.  So the students should not be walking through the building in the morning before school, but going straight to their playground.  Thanks for your help and support with this matter.

ART ROOM NEWS….. Please visit the art room blog to get further information in regards to the upcoming Marco’s Pizza Night in January.  The students are decorating pizza boxes that if you order pizza that night it will be delivered/picked-up in THEIR pizza box!  How cool is that.  The Marco’s dates are January 18 and 19!    Please click here for a direct link to the art room blog   ART ROOM

elf04FOOD SERVICE NEWS…… New Notification System for Lunch Accounts – Starting on January 3, 2011,  any parent that has an email address on file with the Hudsonville Schools PowerSchool system will automatically receive an email notice when their child’s lunch account has a low balance.  The low balance amount is $2.00 for paid children and $.80 for reduced children.  Once your child’s account drops to either of these amounts, you will receive an email letting you know that you need to send in more money.  You will also get a notice when your child’s account has a zero or negative amount. These notifications will be sent out Monday through Friday.  If you do not want to receive these email notifications, you need to contact Stacey Wykoski at swykoski@hpseagles.net by Friday December 31 to have this feature removed from your child’s account.  Please include your child’s first name, last name and grade in the email. Please feel free to contact Stacey at 667-3352 or swykoski@hpseagles.net if you have any questions.

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH………With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district isclosed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow
day will be moved to the next school day. An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday. Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on the food service web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! -Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director.

STUDENT CALL-INS……. This is just a reminder from Mrs. Nurenberg.  I am just asking a favor of all Georgetown parents!  If your student is sick or  going to be late to school please call in and leave a message on our answering machine.  Even if your child gets ill in the night, you can call and leave the message any time of day or night.  The office has been having to make MANY phone calls on a daily basis to check on students that have not been called in or the teacher is not aware of the student’s absence.  We just want you to know that we are making these calls for the safety of your children.  We want to make sure they are home safe with an adult and something has not happened to them on the way to school.  Thank you for your help with this matter!

CANDY CANE SALES…… Candy Canes will be sold from Monday, December 6th through Thursday, December 16.  The proceeds from these sales will be going to our 5th Grade students for their camp they go to in the spring.  Candy Canes will be sold everyday for $1.  Your child just needs to give their money to their teacher and they will receive their candy cane that very same day.  Thanks for helping to make 5th Grade Camp a very memorable experience!!
