Growing Our Reading Count Quiz Collections!

With help from our Parent Club, we continue to grow our Scholastic Reading Counts quiz collection and our library book collection.  As of today, we now have 44,191 quizzes available–an amazing feat for just our 3rd year together.

We have been able to build an amazing collection of books, quizzes and a motivational reading program due to support from you, the parents who support us through the PTC and volunteer efforts.  Many thanks to all of you for all you do to help us grow your children into readers!

Blog Spotlight

Georgetown has four 2nd grade teachers on staff.  These teachers, Mrs. Greenlund, Mrs. Kuieck, Mrs. Quigley and Mr. Bowen, work closely to plan instruction, assessment and special activities.  Their great professional relationship and shared passion for teaching is evident in their blog communications.  You will be amazed by the student writing that is being shared–as well and the rich learning in all content areas.  Please take time to visit these blogs and learn about the incredible instruction taking place in our second grade classrooms.

Weekly Events

While writing this week’s staff update, I shared that I am caught between two feelings right now: Celebrating the fact that it is the last week of February due to this never ending winter, and someone who enjoys life and doesn’t want to wish it away! Nonetheless, March begins in just 6 days…and the spring equinox occurs on March 20!

Keep in mind that parent/teacher conferences are scheduled for March 2,3 and 4. This time for you to meet with your child’s teacher is important for many reasons–and the most important is to support your child growing as a learner and a person and to continue building the relationship between parents/teacher.   Each  conference is limited to 15 minutes, which is not optimal, we realize.  If you feel that you need more time, please arrange to follow up at a later date soon after the conference date.

Here’s to a great week ahead!

  • Mon 2/23 Day 3:  HAPPY MONDAY
  • Tues 2/24 Day 1: Music Therapy:  ECSE, CI in MPR 1:30-3:00 pm; Ciao Bella’s Night Ends!
  • Wed  2/25  Day 2: Marco’s Pizza Night;  Session 2 of Reading Counts
  • Thurs 2/26 Day 3: Happy Thursday
  • Fri  2/27 Day 1: MW PreK/K

Georgetown Hosts United Kingdom Teachers

This past week, Hudsonville Public Schools hosted seven teachers and administrators from the United Kingdom. They were traveling to our district to learn more about our math curriculum and ways in which we support all levels of learners. The UK team spent a day with K-5 teachers reviewing math curriculum and observed instruction at Park, Jamestown, South and Georgetown Elementary Schools.

While visiting our school, the UK team was able to observe first grade number sense lessons, as well as second through third grade differentiated instruction, and fourth through fifth grade math, writing and reading. When the observations were concluded, we met with the team to process and answer questions. They were impressed with our students and the way in which they can explain their thinking while working on math. This made us smile with pride!

We hope to keep in touch with the UK team and their work abroad. Warm wishes to: Jenny Mayne, Karen Cockman, Joanne Nodder, Julie Ball, Catherine Clark, Rita McCracken, and Christobel Cousins!
