Tuesday…Summer Library!

Library openWe will have our second OPEN LIBRARY this Tuesday, June 28 from 10 am to 12 pm.  This is open to all students…new and old…grades K-5.

While attending, please feel free to take down your JOYFUL LEARNER PHOTO.  I will be adding new photos next year…so you are welcome to take the 2015-16 photo from the board.

Also, it’s time to remind everyone to keep their brains engaged in learning over the summer.  I invite you to participate in MOBYMAX for 10-20 minutes per day (math fact fluency, reading and any other content that interests you).  Also, if you would like to track your reading over the summer, this counts too.  Simply log into this form once a week to tell me how many minutes per week you are reading.  Summer learning contest ends on August 20.

All students who participate in summer learning will be entered into a drawing for a AMAZON GIFT CARD.  These will be handed out during a pizza lunch with me!

Finally, Mrs. Vandenberg, our librarian, would love to have post photos of you reading over the summer.  If you have a photo of your reading during vacation, send her the photo at jvandenb@hpseagles.net

Hope your summer is going well!

Mrs. Reagan

Georgetown Millionaire’s 2016-17

millionWe have  a very successful MILLIONAIRE CLUB at our school.  Georgetown Millionaire’s read VORACIOUSLY all year long…so much reading that when they reach 1,000,000 words, they are part of the club.

We honor them with a Barnes and Noble gift card, an award certificate, a standing ovation at the Talent Show and their name also goes in the display case.

The MILLIONAIRES are listed below.  MANY MANY thanks to parents who support us each year for the WALK•A•THON.  The money raised during this one event helps to fund awards for this event and books for our library.  Also, thank you to Mrs. VandenBerg, our librarian, who tracks and counts all these words every year.

CONGRATULATIONS READERS!

We need VOLUNTEERS to make this event happen.  For those of you who need an extra incentive:  Volunteering earns you a 10% DISCOUNT on all your shopping during book fair week.  Please consider helping out as we still need many spots filled!! Click on this link to help out! You can also email Jody Hunt at jmhunt21@hotmail.com to see how you can help!

MOBYMAX — Great Online Tool for Learning!

MOBYMAX in our school online tool for learning practice.  All of the children in grades 1-5 have accounts that allow for practice of math skills, reading skills and content area concepts.  The most frequently used module of MOBYMAX is math fact fluency.  Children who practice math facts for 5 minutes a day, 5 days a week are more likely to remember their math facts.

We also love the modules for reading practice — early readers, middle readers and upper level readers.

LOGGING INTO MOBYMAX is simple:

  1. Go to www.mobymax.com/mi1457whale
  2. Go to mobymax.com and enter mi1457 in for the school code.
  3.  Go  to mobymax.com and select Georgetown Elementary — scroll to Hudsonville, MI.
  4.  Go to the blog and click on the MOBYMAX whale.
  5. Login with username and password.  (Email your child’s teacher if you cannot remember the login information.)

To continue our tradition of excellence at Hudsonville Public Schools, we are asking for your help in the development of our next strategic plan.  We have completed the first phase of development (Focus Groups) and are very thankful for the wealth of information we received regarding the strengths of Hudsonville Public Schools and areas to focus on in the future.  An executive summary can be found on our website.

In February we randomly selected parents to participate in our needs assessment survey.  If you were not selected for the random survey now is your opportunity to participate in the survey that is now open to all parents and community members.  Please consider taking part in helping us set the direction for the next three years.  The survey, linked below, should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and will close on March 31.   Parent and Community Survey

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. Holy Toledo!! Can you believe it???  We just completed our 6th week of school.  Does not even seem possible!  The week here at Georgetown was a fairly uneventful one.  The weather was beautiful and it was a great week to start the MEAP testing for grades 3-5.  The students have done an excellent job with the change of schedules and having to be super quiet in the halls during testing times.  The MEAP testing will finish up next week. Grades 3-5 test on Tuesday and grades 4 and 5 finish on Wednesday.  Please try to make sure your students get a good nights rest and start the day off with a good breakfast.  : )  Hope to see all of you at the HEF Fun Fest tonight!!  Remember it starts at 4:30 at the football stadium located at Baldwin Middle School.  : )

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……….. How lucky can we get???  Another week with a snow day!!  Woo-Hoo!!  The week here has been very uneventful.  Which is not at all bad this time of year.  The kids are all happy again because there is snow to play in! Please remember to keep dressing those kiddos in their warm winter clothes.  : )

ONCE AGAIN…….We are still having an issue with a lot of tardy students in the morning.  Please, we are asking on your part that you get your students to school on time when you are dropping them off.  If they arrive late from the bus, this is not marked as a tardy.  As a reminder the first bell rings at 8:45am and the second bell at 8:50am, which is when the students should be settled in their class.  When students are on time this makes attendance MUCH easier for the teachers AND the  office.  Thank you.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held atGeorgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm.  Please remember that it is NOT a first come/first serve basis as far as turning in your registrations.  We will not be holding PK at Georgetown next year.  Our students that request PK will be going to Bauer.  Your child should be 5 on or before NOVEMBER 1 this year to enter EITHER PK or Kindergarten.  IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.  These WAIVERS will be attached to the Kindergarten registrations.  You ONLY need to fill out the waiver if your child turns 5 BETWEEN the dates of NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1, 2013.

5th GRADE NEWS…………  It is that time of year again to start adding important dates to the calendar for your 5th grader.  The time from here until the end of the school year is going to fly by for you……. so hold on tight!   Here are some upcoming dates that you will want to keep track of.
