Poor, Poor Mr. Bowen!

As the loser of the Coin War, our resident MSU FAN (Mr. Bowen) had to wear University of Michigan apparel today.  Because he doesn’t own any U of M wear,  Mr. Kooiker and some kind souls took care of making sure he was dressed well.

Thank you to everyone for your donation of coins — the total weight of 282 will add up to a lot of money for our ALL FOR BOOKS Book Fair Program.   Your donations of coins raised $ 1,821.96!   A•M•A•Z•I•N•G!

A Busy Week Ahead!

I hope you had a great snow day!   Thank you to everyone who sent photos to share on the blog.  The day was as an unexpected surprise for many—and the teachers considered an bonus day for finishing up report cards and preparations for conferences.

Throughout this week, we will be hosting our PTC COIN WAR.  This is our final and very important fundraiser for PTC.  The money collected will build the PTC budget for critical school events that are focused on supporting family activities and learning.  Please send in your silver coins so that the PTC can continue all the good that it does for our school community!

Parent Teacher Conferences will be held on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday evenings. I will have the esteemed role of TIME KEEPER which means you will hear my voice every 15 over the intercom announcing the end of each conference period.

We also have LEAP DAY on February 29...a special day that appears just once every four years.  If you know anyone who has a birthday on this special day, make sure you remember them with a special birthday wish!

On the first day of March,  we will have our DRESS LIKE A PE TEACHER theme day. Every staff member and student is encouraged to wear PE apparel and dress as a PE teacher.  It’s our way of celebrating Mrs. Neinhuis and Mrs. VanKoevering…two incredible PE teachers who make a big impact on our health and wellness at Georgetown.

Remember:  NO SCHOOL ON FRIDAY.  Teachers will be working hard on professional development activities….learning strategies for improving instruction for all learners.

Have a great weekend!

Mrs. Reagan

The Half Way Mark: Week 20 of School

Where is this year going?   We are half way through the 2009-10 school year–and to me it seems that it is flying by!  As we look ahead to this week, please note that our all school PJ and Popcorn Day is this coming Friday!

In addition, the first parent meeting regarding changes in the programing for the Cognitively Impaired Program will be held at Park Elementary on Thursday at 4 pm.  An additional meeting will be held on February 1 at 7 pm.  The topic of the meetings will be identical.

Many, many thanks to all of you have contributed to the “SHOUT OUTS” for donations these past few weeks.  Every small donation for the Haiti victims, Takin’ Down Cancer Coin War and Bustin’ Through Books Collection is appreciated.

If you would like to donate to our Bustin’ Through Books collection, we are still taking $1.00 per student for books, old vinyl bean bags, and old books!  If you are a father who would like to read with the students during their reading time, complete our form online.

Two of our incredible Georgetown families have been in the news these past two weeks.  If you have missed the coverage , you can find links here:  Megan Assink, a survivor of Pompe’s Disease, and her family have been covered by many media outlets.  In addition, the Randolf Family welcomed home their forever adopted children from Haiti on Friday night.

Here’s to a great week ahead!
