Week 15: December 9-13, 2013

Our week ahead is calm….and that is a WONDERFUL thing to say during the holiday season!    With the amazing program behind us, we are able to resume a schedule that is free of rehearsals and filled with routine we are familiar with.

Again, be sure to check your child’s class blogs for assignments, tests and special events that may be posted in these locations.

With the cold winter weather in full swing, please remember to have your child wear those mittens, gloves, hats and scarves.  The wind blows fiercely on our playgrounds — so even when the sun is out, winter accessories are essential.

Have a great week!

Week 13 is REALLY SHORT!

gratitude

With the Thanksgiving Holiday Break taking place Wednesday-Friday, we have just two days of school this week.

As you can see, we don’t have any major events listed on the school end–however you will want to check your children’s class blogs for events that may be classroom based.

I would like to take the opportunity to express my gratitude to all of you for your support during the first third of our school year.   With our busy pace of teaching, guiding, coaching and mentoring we sometimes don’t have the time or forget to make the time to thank our student’s parents for the hard work they do each and every day to prepare their children for learning.  We could not do what we do with out you.  The education of your children is done best when it is a partnership and we thank you for partnering with us.

Wishing you and your family and friends a restful, healthy and rich Thanksgiving break.

Week 12: Nov 18-22, 2013

As you can see below, the highlight of the week is MARCO’s PIZZA Night on Wednesday.  When you order your pizza, make sure you give your child’s teacher name.  The class that orders the most pizza’s will receive a pizza lunch compliments of Marco’s and our Parent Club.

pledgeThroughout our building this week, classrooms will be focusing on a curriculum called Be Nice • Be Safe – strategic lessons to teach skills to prevent bullying.  We will be sharing the lessons on our blog at the end of the week.  On Friday, you child will bring home a Be Nice • Be Safe  Pledge  that is signed by you and your your child and then returned to school where it will become part of the a class book.

We are hopeful that these common lessons help our children understand the difference between bullying and rough play and much more.

It sounds like we have some interesting weather events  ahead for the day.  Be safe wherever you are today.

November Chill

November has arrived — making itself known with a stiff breeze, gray clouds and cold temps.  If your child argues with you about the necessity of hats, mittens, or any type of warm weather clothing — use me as your point person.  Our playgrounds are C * O * L * D and windy.  Dress warmly…and you will have more fun!  Mrs. Reagan Said So.

Thank you for your time last week during parent/teacher conferences.  The 15 minutes we have with the parents of each child is valuable — and we do our best to share academic and social/emotional success and highlight areas we are growing.  Your support is key to your child’s success and we very much appreciate all you are doing to be your child’s best advocate.

The PTC would also like to thank you for supporting our FALL BOOK FAIR.  It was extremely successful — and this was due to the volunteers and your purchasing support.  Because our COIN WAR  brought in over $1200, we were able to supply books for many children and teachers.

We have much to be thankful for at Georgetown…and you, the parents, are the foundation and core of our all that we do.

Week 6: MEAP Testing Begins

Throughout the state of Michigan, all students in grades 3-9 are taking state academic tests called the MEAP.  The tests take place over three weeks.  This is a high pressure, high stress and high stakes test.   The daily test schedule is mandated by  the State Department of Education.  If you have a child in grades 3-5, please pay attention to the testing schedule listed on the class blog.  If you have a question about the test schedule, contact the teacher via phone or email.

Our week ends with SPIRIT DAY…also the Hudsonville Education Foundation Fundraiser and Homecoming Game.  Mrs. Stadt and Mr. Kooiker will be representing Georgetown in the HEF DUNK TANK event.  If you want to dunk them, show up at EAGLE’S STADIUM at 4:45 pm.    Also…Friday is the day to wear BLUE AND GOLD!

Walk•A•THON Results will be announced early in the week.  It takes time to count all the money…and make sure that the right classrooms and students get the credit they deserve.  The money counting and collecting process falls on the shoulders of our two treasurers, Krista Lawrence and Cheryl Havens.  THANK YOU Mrs. Lawrence and Mrs. Havens for your help.

Have a great week!

Welcome Fall Equinox: Week 4

Our fourth week of school opens with Fall Equinox — day and night in both hemisphere’s will be nearly equal.    And as you know, soon we will be experiencing less daylight and cooler weather. The youtube video below shows how the movement of the sun looks from space.

Our week ahead includes the ANNUAL WALK•A•THON.  Please contribute to this very important event.  It is our only all school fundraiser — and the money earned funds events and tech tools for the 2013-14 school year.

A special post about the walk•a•thon will post separately soon.

Have a great week!

Week 3: September 16-20

const

It’s our third week….already!   Routines and procedures are very well established due to a great community of learners and staff.

If your child is still not eating lunch, please let your child’s teacher know so that this can be passed along to lunch staff.  It takes awhile for our youngest learners to get used to the lunchroom and we want to make sure we are aware so we can provide extra TLC as necessary.  We add on extra time as needed.  Lunch is important…so please keep us posted.

We kick off the week with PICTURE DAY!  You will see the final results of the photos in late October.  A retake day will be scheduled for those who are absent or need another session.  Photos will be taken in the library.

Tuesday of this week is National Constitution Day — an opportunity for all of us to reflect on the writing of the Constitution.  Each classroom will discuss this historical document on Tuesday in a way that is appropriate to the age group/grade.

We also have another PIZZA NIGHT.  This week…MARCOS.  When you order your family pizza, provide a teacher name.  The class with the most pizza’s ordered under the teacher name will earn a pizza lunch on Marcos.  A portion of all profits goes back to our school PTC — and this money goes toward funding family activities.  Our first Pizza Night was with JET’s.  Winning class:  MRS. WALENTA’s 4th Graders.

At the end of the week, we kick off our one and only PTC all school fundraiser:  THE Trek for Tech Tools WALK-A-THON.  The Walk-a-thon takes place on September 26.  Each student is asked to raise money (asking friends and family to donate money for laps walked at school) with this money funding all of our events this year.  The events are run and managed by parents with the goal of supporting the school/family relationship and supporting learning in the classroom.  Prizes are awarded to top earners at each grade and individual awards.  Details for this will be arriving home soon.   Watch your child’s backpack…blog posts and emails.  This is our single most important fundraiser…and your donations are needed and appreciated!

Have a great week!

Week a-a-a-a-choooo 35!

Do you feel like you’re looking through green colored glasses?  Are your eyes itchy and your nose sneezy?  If so, you are suffering from spring allergies…and it is a miserable season.  Many of our students (your kids) have watery eyes, headaches, and all the other symptoms that go along with intense allergen exposure.  ACHOO is heard in every classroom!

Highlights of the week ahead are show below.  We open with 5th grade safety White Caps Game and wrap up with our school carnival.  The carnival is sponsored by our PTC and it is a great time for families to play games, eat candy corn and socialize together.

Enjoy the beautiful weekend weather!
