PORT: A Service Project

Lily Wressell, a fourth grader in Mrs. Huizenga’s class, is asking her fellow Georgetown students and families to join her in supporting the Pediatric Oncology Resource Team, P.O.R.T., that operates with Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.

P.O.R.T. provides much needed resources and hands-on support for families with a child diagnosed with cancer or life-threatening blood disorders.

Lily will be collecting items to put into theme baskets for the P.O.R.T. Winter Night Out fundraiser in February.

In particular she is requesting items related to kids arts and crafts such as; paints, crayons, paper, stencils, stickers, etc.

She is also looking for gift wrap items; paper, bags, bows, ribbon, cards, etc.

If you are interested in donating items there will be a box located in the lobby until Monday, Feb 6 that you may put them in.

Thank you for helping Lily reach her goal of providing two baskets to help P.O.R.T.

A Model in Our Midst

Design 1 Salon Spa Fashion EventThe model that I would like to honor is Jared Mills!  On December 15, he served as a runway model for Design 1’s fashion show event which raised money for the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital.   Recovering patients from the hospital served as models for this night of glitter and glam.  You can view some of the photos of the models at this location: Grand Rapids Press.   Wood TV 8 West Broadcast highlighted the mission of the fashion show, giving special mention to the young models.
The morning after modeling at the B.O.B., Jared went to Helen Devos Children’s Hospital for eye reconstruction surgery.  Many of you are aware that last year a tumor developed behind Jared’s eye–and he endured surgeries, treatments and many many MANY doctor’s visits.  Jared is one of our Georgetown Hero’s and a handsome model, too!  He is now home recovering and hopefully enjoying his well deserved vacation!
