Holiday Program…Final Thoughts!

Many thanks once again to all the people who made our 2009 Holiday Program so very successful.  The thank you list includes the music staff at Georgetown (Mrs. Bretz, Ms. Whitenight, Ms. McCulloch).  In addition, the teachers who supported the students through the long rehearsals, and the staff that worked the evening of the program to ensure that all students were supervised and calm.  Resurrection Life Church was a perfect venue for our school this year–providing ample parking, seating, and stage setting.  This enables us to hold one program with all students which is much more family friendly, as well.

Our school has reached a student enrollment size (574 students) that dictates the venue we must utilize for our holiday program.  Some have asked why we did not rent Fellowship Reformed this year, and this was addressed in our May 2008, September 2008 and October 2008 newsletters.  In addition, Mrs. Bretz addressed this on her blog and in the Q&A posting in her news update.   Fellowship Reformed is a beautiful location and worked so well with our school this past two years with regards to running two programs and accommodating hundreds of parents and special guests.  However, the size of our crowd created hazards in the parking lot and in the basement classrooms–sheer volume of pick up and drop off.  The move to Resurrection Life was made to ensure a safe and successful holiday program that students, family and friends could enjoy.  If you have further questions, do not hesitate to contact me.  Mrs. Reagan

Staff Holiday Breakfast

Christy Hultink and Kristi Fellows, Parent Club members, hosted a beautiful holiday breakfast for all the staff members of Georgetown.  The tables were lined with evergreens and candles and smells of pastries, quiche and coffee filled the air.  Staff members received notes of appreciation, along with stipends to put toward the purchase of classroom materials.  (I do believe that Krista Lawrence pulled an “all-nighter” writing these notes and making out checks!)  Tremendous thanks to all the parents who donated the food–and made this event possible.  We, the staff of Georgetown, feel honored to work with you and your children each day!

Top Secret Shopping….Shhh!

If you happen to walk by our media center this week, you might do a double take.  Through the windows, you will see tables covered with many different types of gifts — ranging from Eagle’s gear to jewelry to toys, etc.  The room has been transformed into a department store!  Students have been shopping all week, searching for the just right gifts for special people in their lives.  This event is made possible by our Parent Club, and it is an absolutely invaluable service.  Sincere thanks to Jamie Ham for organizational talents, and the many warm hearted parents who assist these very important shoppers.  **Note:  The gifts in the photos below have been blurred out to prevent parents from snooping!

Holiday Program Details

Now that the Thanksgiving holiday is behind us, we have officially entered the holiday season!  Our school will be kicking this off with our annual Holiday Music Program on December 4, 2008.  This program is organized and arranged by Mrs. Bretz, our music teacher.  She has been working with our students since early October to learn music pieces for this holiday celebration.  We are renting Resurrection Life Church for this event.  This church is located in Grandville (52nd Ave. and Ivanrest).  Please enter off from 52nd Ave and enter through Door K.  There is only one performance this year!    Directions to the church:  RES LIFE

Students can be dropped off for the performance NO EARLIER than 6:30 pm.  We ask this for safety and security reasons.  There will not be supervision for children prior to 6:30, so it is critical that you follow these guidelines.  Once you enter through Door K, there will be signs directing you to the correct room.

Grades 1,2 and 3 will be in the Choir Room.  Grades PK, K, 4 & 5 will be in the Chapel Room.

Because the church has adequate seating for everyone, the children will be able to watch the performance from reserved seating!  At the end of the event, they will be dismissed to their classrooms for parent pick up.

Please note that based on rental guidelines with Resurrection Life Church, we have been asked as a school community to follow these procedures outlined below.  There were some facility use problems during our program last year, and I would like to outline the expectations so that all families are aware of the rental terms:

•The program will be video taped for all families.  A DVD of this program will be available to families one week following the program.  The fee for this DVD is $5.00.  Order form:  holiday-dvd

•NO FOOD OR DRINK is allowed in the church.

We are looking forward to seeing you at the performance!  If you would l like to read Mrs. Bretz’s answers to commonly asked questions, visit this link:  Q & A Holiday Program
