The Round Up Meeting for our newest group of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students takes place this week, 
March 9. This is an opportunity for parents to find out about the district PK and K programs and enroll their child for the 2010-11 school year.
Georgetown will hold it’s meeting at 7 pm in the Multi-Purpose Room. There will be the option to attend a day time program at 10 am (held at Alward, South or Jamestown). The material will be the same for all schools, simply held at these locations for those that must attend during the day.
If you know a neighbor who has an upcoming PK or K child, please encourage them to attend the meeting. For those who cannot attend, the materials for registration can be found on live links below.

INFORMATION ABOUT SCREENING (Held on March 16 and 17) AND CURRICULUM PROGRAMS

District-wide adjustments have been made to the PK•K attendance schedule. Please mark these dates on your home calendars. I have made the changes to our school calendar (to the right). The PK•K teachers will also remind you of these changes as the dates draw nearer.
1. Friday June 4 will be changed to a M/W day for all PK•K students.
2. Monday June 7 will be the final day of school for M/W PK•K students.
3. Tuesday June 8 will be the final day of school for T/TH PK•K students.

The meeting will offer parents information in preparation of your child entering Kindergarten Overview K current or Pre-Kindergarten Overview PK current in the Fall. The locations and times of the meetings are as follows:
Alward Elementary – 10 a.m. OR 7 p.m. (Georgetown parents who are not able to attend in the evening can attend the 10 am meeting at Alward. The information is identical to the meeting held at 7 pm.)
Georgetown Elementary – 7 p.m. only

Due to larger turnouts for our evening Round-Up meetings the past few years, we decided to offer a day time Round-Up meeting in three locations. We encourage parents from other buildings to attend those locations if the day time meetings work best for you. The same information will be given at each location. Please drop off your completed enrollment information to your child’s school. Screening is required for children turning 5 years old between June 1 – December 1, 2010. Appointments can be scheduled when you turn in your child’s enrollment form.
It is hard to believe that we are getting ready for our newest group of pre-kindergarten and kindergarten students. It is time for us to get the word out about enrolling children for the 2010-1011 school year. 
If you have a child that will be in PK or K next year, please mark your calendar for March 9, 2010. Featured below is an uploaded version of our PreK and K classes performing during our fourth annual Holiday Program on December 17, 2009. It is not the same high quality of the DVD which many of your have ordered, but it is still a nice way to share the incredible work done by our students and our music teachers, Mrs. Bretz and Mrs. Whitenight. The 3rd grade classrooms featured: Mrs. Estefan, Mrs. Bohl, Mrs. Weiss, and Mrs. Nederveld. I hope you enjoy this video!
I received a very special invitation to take part in our PK and K Thanksgiving Feast this week. The classes came together to share all that they had learned about the holiday and to share traditional gifts, songs, stories and treats with one another. It was a wonderful time of fun! And, if you ask my opinion, there is nothing cuter in the world than a PK or K student in a construction paper pilgrim or Native American hat! Enjoy this video and have a wonderful Thanksgiving.
From our Superintendent, Roxanne DeWeerd: Pre-Kindergarten Reinstated
Hudsonville Public Schools will offer the same pre-kindergarten program next school
year as has been offered in the past. Because of a significant change in the state funding
formula for pre-kindergarten that was to go into effect next school year, the program was
going to be dropped. However, it now appears that the State will either delay the funding changes for two years or, hopefully, eliminate the changes completely. Given that potential, pre-kindergarten will be reinstated for next school year.
Your building principal will be contacting all parents who had their children screened for kindergarten this spring. If your child qualified for pre-kindergarten, you will be given the option to enroll your child in this program. At Georgetown, Mrs. Giovanna Estefan will be teaching pre-kindergarten on the Monday/Wednesday full day rotation schedule. Any open spots in this Pre-K class will be then be filled with children who did not qualify but parents desire to have Pre-K over K. Please be patient while we contact all parents. This may take 3-5 school days to sort through.
