The Roads are HORRIBLE…it is VERY COLD, so that means…

Reader2.
Super Readers: Bethany, Milena, Melia, Josh, Seth, Marley, Joanna, Terra and Landon

tomorrow is a SNOW DAY.

Why is school closed tomorrow? (Tuesday, January 28)? Extremely dangerous cold.  In these temperatures, exposed skin can become frostbitten within thirty minutes — and why not make it three in a row, right?!

As I said in the last snow day post, KEEP YOUR LEARNING BRAIN ENGAGED and READ.  If you write down the titles of our books, these will all count toward your membership in the MILLIONAIRES CLUB.

Check out the SNOW DAY READING INCENTIVE to help keep make your snow day less boring.

PLEASE BE SAFE.

Signed “REALLY REALLY really over snow days”,

Mrs. Reagan

Snow day readers: Nora (2-CG), Lorenzo (4-CB), Caleb (2-CG), Aiden (4-CB)

Tired of these snow days?  Missing that great feeling of LEARNING at SCHOOL?  If so, find a book and start some snow day reading.   Send an email to Mrs. Reagan (treagan@hpseagles.net) or your teacher with the title of the book — feel free to send a photo, too.  Every time you send me a photo of a book,  I will give you an extra 200 words toward your millionaire word count.  Each book you read counts for 200 words.

You will also get your name added to the end of the year READING COUNTS prize drawing.  Every time you finish a book this year, your name is added…so this is a snow day bonus.

Be safe…stay warm and happy reading!

MILLIONS OF WORDS…

have been read this year by all of our students combined.  Thirteen of our students read 1,000,000 words each this year.  They are Hannah Applebee, August VanDam, Nathan Conkel, Masen Kuieck, Reese Pell, Quinn Baar, Chloe Patrick, Annabel Owen, Ryan Mahoney, Skyler VanAntwerp, Luke Ellermets, Anna Haseley, Ashlee VanAntwerp

Jacob Bouma read 2,000,000 words and Matthew Lawrence read 3,000,000 words.  All 15 of these students are officially MILLION WORD CLUB MEMBERS.  Each received a certificate and a MILLION WORD SHIRT.

It is important to note that Matthew and Ryan have read at least one million words per year since 2009; August, Olivia and Chloe have been members since 2010.  I really believe that words are like air for them:  They need them to LIVE!

Millionaire Club is Growing!

Millionaire winnersPeyton Ward, Cam Cook, Hunter Gulch, Brad Sellers, Quinn Baar, Corey Huyser, Ezra Roerig, Will Haverkamp, Matthew Lawrence, Ryan Mahoney, August VanDam, Chloe Patrick

*Note: Picture appears blurring because these readers were “itching” to get off the stage to start working on their next million words!

This past Friday, we honored our newest members of the Georgetown Millionaire’s Club.  The Millionaire Club opened with 12 founding members in May of 2010.  We honored our second set of millionaires on February 28 of this year. These students have read 1,000,000 words and were honored for doing so in front of the entire school.  As millionaire club members, they receive a t-shirt, blog article (You are reading it!) and the Georgetown Nook for take home reading.  We will load the book of their choice onto the Nook.

Congratulations to: Peyton Ward, Will Haverkamp, Ryan Mahoney, August VanDam, Brad Sellers, Corey Huyser and Ezra Roerig for joining this May.

HUGE SHOUT OUTS go to Matthew Lawrence for adding another million and to Quinn Baar for adding TWO MILLION!

Remember…anyone  can be a millionaire.  Links to how to do this can be found here:  HOW TO BE A GEORGETOWN MILLIONAIRE

The B&N Nook reader has been provided by you due to your support of the Parent Club fundraisers.   We LOVE IT!  Our hope is to grow this collection so that more readers can check out NOOKS for their at-home reading.

Georgetown’s Millionaires Club

In October of this year, Mrs. VandenBerg (our librarian) launched the Georgetown Millionaires Club.  As a result of Mrs. VandenBerg’s counting skills, we can officially announce that we have 12…TWELVE….XII….MILLIONAIRES at our school!

We announced the millionaires at the opening of our JUST WRITE PERFORMANCES on Friday, May 28.  All but one was surprised that they had read over one million words each this school year.  The one student not surprised was Matthew Lawrence who was the first student in our building to reach this mammoth goal.

Each millionaire received a certificate and a MILLION WORDS T-SHIRT.  In addition, these students will be honored with their names on a plaque that will grow more and more names over time.Million Words Front

Congratulations to: Linnae, Nathan, Bryce, Aliya, Alison, Austin, Jon, Ryan, Matthew, Marisa, Cielle, Ryan.
