BLOG BITS 9/17/10

Happy Friday afternoon Georgetown Parents!!

Well we have survived our first full week of school.  I hope everything is going as smooth at home with the new routines as here at school.  We truly are fortunate to have such a great group of kids!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……. Just  a few things from the office crew.  School pictures will be taken on Monday and Tuesday, September 20 and 21Everyone will be photographed on MONDAY,  UNLESS your child is a Tuesday/Thursday Kindergartner or pre-schooler.  Anyone who is absent on Monday will be able to have their picture taken on Tuesday.

NOTES from home…….  please make sure you send a note from home if there will be any changes for after school transportation. It is extremely busy here at school and there are alot of things for the teachers to remember at the end of the day.  It makes it so much easier for the teacher if they have a note to put up by the door to remind them at the end of the day.  If there is no note to alert the teacher of a change, your student will be put on the bus to go home.

DROP-OFF/PICK-UP……..  If your students are riding their bikes to school or being dropped off please make sure they are not arriving at school before 8:30 am.  There is no supervision for the students before this time and for their safety we ask that they not arrive before this time.  As for Pick-up we ask that whomever is picking up that you are here at 3:40pm.

LIBRARY NEWS…….  We have enrolled our school in the Book It Program which is sponsored by Pizza Hut.  This program will run from October through March.  Each grade level will have a weekly reading goal.  A calendar will go home at the end of each month for students to track their reading minutes for the following month.  Once they have met their goal, send the calendar back and we will collect and issue them a certificate for a FREE one-topping Personal Pan Pizza.  You have 30 days from the date on the back of certificate to redeem it.  This program may be combined with Reading Counts and any at home reading.  Please direct all your questions to our Librarian Mrs. VandenBerg at jvandenb@hpseagles.net Feel free to also visit the Book It! Program website at www.bookitprogram.com.  The first calendar will go home the last week of September for the month of October.  Have fun and READ READ READ!!!

PE NEWS ……..  TURKEY TROT is coming and we are in need of sponsors for the race.  Please visit the PE BLOG for more details.

PTC NEWS……   BOX TOP COMPETITIONS……We are planning a couple of competitions this year.  The first competition starts now and runs until October 15.  The second competition will start January 3 and run until February 15.

FRIDAY FACTS FTO

FRIDAY FACTS FTO

Good Friday Afternoon Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE
Attention Parents of 5th Grade Students
As of August 2002, all schools in Michigan are required to report the immunization status of all 6th grade students. This is to assure that children are adequately immunized against preventable diseases before they reach adolescence when some of these diseases become a greater threat to their health. Allison Herring, at Baldwin Street Middle School, and Anne Erickson, at Riley Street Middle School, will be checking into all current 5th grade immunization records. Letters will be mailed home for those students who do not comply with the requirements. This will be done in the next few months, as this is a huge undertaking for the amount of students within the district. If your child needs immunizations, please make work of completing these immunizations during the 5th grade school year. This would be a significant help in reducing the amount of time spent by the administrative assistants in assessing the immunization readiness for all of our incoming 6th grade students. Your help in this matter is sincerely appreciated. Please be advised that any child who has not had all of his/her immunizations will not be allowed to start 6th grade. Students who are in the process or completing the Hepatitis B series (three immunization series) will be allowed to start 6th grade, provided the next immunization is not overdue.
