Scavenger Hunt Winners: September

This past September we kicked off our first BLOG scavenger hunt! The goal of the hunt was to increase the readership of our blogs by offering prizes for students who participated.  The theme of the September scavenger hunt was “teacher vacations”.

Each student who participated (140 total) received a ticket for our upcoming Reading Counts drawing.  In addition, the classroom that had the most participants (Mrs. McDonald’s 3rd grade) won and hour of teaching time with ME as their teacher.  Finally, all students who participated were entered into a blog drawing and one student was selected–winning a $10 gift card to Barnes and Noble and a pumpkin carving kit!  Congratulations, Ray!

We have just kicked off our second scavenger hunt, TEACHERS HAVE HOBBIES, TOO! To participate, read through the blogs and enter your finds in the survey answer form. Happy Hunting…and thank you for reading our blogs, too!

Teachers have HOBBIES, too!

A hobby is an activity that you do for enjoyment, and there are a wide variety of hobbies you can have living somewhere that has four seasons.   My winter hobbies are knitting and baking.  In the spring, I love to walk and collect stones on the beach.  The summer and fall are perfect times for one of my favorite hobbies, gardening.

HobbyThis summer, my hobby was very different:  FAMILY TIME. During the school year,  everyone in my family is very busy and sometimes we are rarely home together.  My goal this summer was to spend LOTS of time doing activities with my son, daughter and husband.  We swam in the pool, went to movies, took long walks, and sometimes just did nothing but talk.  It was one of my best summers in many years.

Visit the many Georgetown Blogs to learn about the hobbies of teachers in grades PK-5!  If you have an interesting or unusual hobby that you would like to share, send me a comment and I will share it on our blog.

My Summer Vacation Highlight

The summer weather was cooler than expected, but that didn’t impact our summer vacation plans.  As a family, we traveled to our all time favorite city — Chicago.  This city has much to offer to each member of my family:  Chicago Cubs for my baseball crazed son and husband, shopping for my daughter, and great food and people watching for me.

One of the highlights of our trip this summer was to Millennium Park, located in the heartof downtown Chicago.  We Vacation Beansaw the incredible ampitheatre, walked through the gardens, played in the waterfall scultpures, and walked under and around the Cloud Gate Sculpture. Because it is in the shape of a huge silver lima bean, we call it the BEAN.  Here is a picture of it, with our family in the reflection.  You can see us only if you magnify it 1,000 times!  I love this picture because it shows the beauty of the sculpture against the skyline of Chicago.

I hope you had a great summer vacation too!  If you want to find out about other teacher’s vacations, visit their blogs and type the word vacation into the blog search area.

Happy Hunting!

And the winners are…

Mrs. Boeve, Samantha and Grace!

I would like to congratulate the winners of our Valentine’s Day scavenger hunt contest!   A huge shout out to Mrs. Boeve, a parent and paraprofessional in our building, was the very first parent to take the challenge on.  She responded with a perfect 100% less than 12 hours after I posted the challenge.  Go, Mrs. Boeve!

Our first non-blogging student to complete the blog was Samantha, in Mrs. Veldman’s first grade classroom.  With assistance from her mom, Samantha visited every student blog and found all the letters to the word “valentine”.  Great work, Samantha!  You and I will have lunch together later this week.  I will stop by your classroom so that you can pick the day and location–and of course, we will get permission from your parents as well.

And…a drumroll please, our first student blogger to complete the hunt is Grace, a 5th graders and awesome blogger!  Grace commented that it took her a long time to find all the hidden letters, but she stuck with the task.  Excellent work, Grace! I will stop by your classroom later this week to schedule our lunch as well.

If you still want to take on the challenge, it is open to anyone.  No more lunches being offered up for this contest, however.  Saving those for the next incentive I dream up!  Mrs. Reagan
