Tire Swings and Thunderstorms

Dear Mrs. Reagan,

This summer we went camping at Lake Michigan and had fun in this huge tire swing.

We also traveled to Lake Superior.

We were at Sugarloaf just before a thunderstorm.  We have a family picture with the storm clouds behind us!

A note from Mrs. Reagan:  This has become my favorite blog theme!  Please send me your summer photos so I can post them to the blog!

Those Babies Grow Up So Fast!

Mrs. Bohl, one of our kindergarten teachers, has had a very special summer.  Her oldest daughter, Hannah, was married in July.

When I first met Mrs. Bohl, Hannah was in middle school.  It seems like I was just hearing about Hannah’s transition to high school, high school graduation, transition to college and college graduation.

Mrs. Bohl has more photos posted on her class blog of Hannah, her husband and the bridal party.  In all the photos, Hannah looks like a princess — and Mr. and Mrs. Bohl look very happy.

Mining Team

Two of our 5th grade teachers, Miss Burmeister and Mrs. Bouwens, stayed cool this summer in the Upper Peninsula learning about Michigan history.

In this photo, we are at Cliff’s taconite mine.  The underground iron ore mines were in full operation from 1867-1967.   The upper peninsula of Michigan is rich with iron ore and the mine location along Lake Superior is the perfect location for shipping the ore to other parts of the country.

Mrs. Bouwens and Miss Burmeister are standing with a group of teachers in front of a huge truck with GIGANTIC tires.  Can you find them?

Leah’s Summer Adventures

Those of you who followed our blog last year may remember Leah, our third grade student who was born in China and now living with her American family.  Leah taught her classmates about the traditions, games and culture of the Chinese people.

We have been amazed by how quickly Leah has learned the English language and traditions, expectations for learning and playing…and so much more in her first year here.

This has been Leah’s first ever summer with her family and  friends.   You can see from these photos that she is very happy!  Leah will be a fourth grader in Mrs. Huizenga’s classroom.

Jumping with STYLE!

The Wolma and Irish families vacationed together in the Upper Peninsula this summer.  The photo below is a group shot of all six children jumping from a dock on Dutch Fred Lake.  Not only do they look excited to get into the water, they all jump with height, style and enthusiasm!

I have never been to the UP (it’s on my ‘get to know Michigan to do list’), so I had to google the location of this lake to satisfy my own curiosity.  Dutch Fred Lake is in the town of Seney, which is in the northern section of the UP (directly north from the bridge).  Dutch Fred Lake looks like the perfect location to stay allowing short trips to Pictured Rocks, the southern shore of Lake Superior and a variety of fishing spots.  I can only imagine how beautiful it must be in this area.

Thank you for sharing a bit of Michigan with us…..as well as your great jump into the lake!

The Poisson Travels

The Poisson family has ttruly enjoyed this summer.  We kicked it off with a trip to the Wildlife Safari Park near Toledo, Ohio.  The kids got to enjoy a drive through zoo.  The buffalo was a bit scary.

Kayleigh, Tyler, and Trevor got to go to Kentucky and stay with some friends, where they went to the Cincinnati Zoo.

We have especially enjoyed the lakes.  We’ve been to Lake Erie, Lake Michigan, Bass Lake in Traverse City, The Grand Traverse Bay, Duck Lake in Muskegon, and Higgins Lake in Roscommon.

We have enjoyed Michigan Adventure a few times and we took a trip to Monroe for a family party.  We also squeezed in a trip to Sleeping Bear Dunes where the kids climbed to the very top!

The kids are looking forward to starting school, again, despite our many adventures!  This fall, Kayleigh will be in Mr. Jurewicz’s class,  Trevor in Mr. Bialochowski and Tyler in Mrs. Burdis’ class.

….and Mrs. Reagan is looking forward to seeing all of them!

Have you ever gone for a Polar Bear swim?

The Lamer’s children know how to make the summer extra special.  Emma has figured out how to stay cool while camping.  She went “polar bear” swimming at 7 am.   Isabelle has been camping and playing with Miley, an absolutely adorable dog.  And Brodie, he has loved playing on the beach and hanging out in the shallow water.

Next year, Brodie will be in Mrs. Murphy’s classroom, Isabelle in Mrs. McDonald’s room and Emma in Mrs. Burdis’ class. If you want to check out what other students have been doing this summer, click on the links be low:
