Yes…tomorrow is another SNOW DAY.

coldWhy is school closed tomorrow? (Monday–January 27)? Extremely dangerous cold.  In these temperatures, exposed skin can become frostbitten within thirty minutes.   Some important tips for staying safe can be found on the WEATHER CHANNEL.

If you are looking for some ways to keep your learning brain engaged, READ.  If you write down the titles of our books, these will all count toward your membership in the MILLIONAIRES CLUB.

Baby, it’s cold outside!

With the many winter weather advisories issued this past month, we have been faced with the issue of checking the wind chill temperatures daily.  This is a task that Mrs. Ripley and Mrs. Nurenberg take on as our incredible school secretaries.  If you take a peak at their computer desktops, you will see that they have the school WeatherBug data posted to enable them to check the wind chill live for our playground.

When the wind chill temperature drops below zero, we keep the children inside for recess.  Wind chill temperature is “how cold people and animals feel when outside. Windchill is based on the rate of heat loss from exposed skin caused by wind and cold. As the wind increases, it draws heat from the body, driving down skin temperature and eventually the internal body temperature. Therefore, the wind makes it FEEL much colder. If the temperature is 0 degrees Fahrenheit and the wind is blowing at 15 mph, the wind chill is -19 degrees Fahrenheit. At this wind chill temperature, exposed skin can freeze in 30 minutes.”  (Information for the NOAA)

We anticipate that the weather will be much better this week.  However, it will be brisk on the playground. PLEASE dress your child warmly.  And, 5th graders:  Wear the warm stuff!  It is more important to be warm that lookin’ cool!

Indoor Recess Policy

BRRRRR! As we look out the window and see the snow BLOWING across the playground fields, it is hard to believe that it was 50 degrees just 12 hours ago!

We wanted all parents to be aware that when the wind chill is zero or below, we keep the children indoors for recess. Please make sure that you send your child to school with boots, mittens/gloves, hats, snowpants, etc. Remember, use me (the principal mom) for leverage if your child doesn’t want to wear these clothing items to school. It is freezing cold on our playground!
