BLOG BITS 10/21/10

0511-1009-0302-2043

WOW, it’s only Thursday and we are sending Blog Bits!!  Yeah for the day off tomorrow!!  : )

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…… We have had another good week here at Georgetown!  It is a short week with a day off and the MEAPS were finsished up this week!  YEAH!! : )  We just have a few things from the office this week.

Holiday Posters…... The Holiday Posters were sent home with students in grades 1-4 and they are due back to school by Monday, October 25.  The Chamber of Commerce pick the winning posters from each school and these students get to ride on a float in the Holiday Parade in Hudsonville on Saturday, November 20.

Call-in Reminders.…..  This is so very helpful to the office if you can please remember to do this.  When your child is sick or going to be late to school for any reason, please call and leave a message on the school phone to we have it recorded and mark the student either absent or late for that day.  This is just a huge help for us here due to the fact that if a student is not here and the office and/or teacher has not heard from the student we have to make calls to make sure the student is safe.  Some days we are making many, many phone calls to check on students.  Thanks for your help in this matter!

Conference Time……  Conference dates and times are as follows…. November 1, 5pm to 8:30pm; November 2, 4pm to 6pm; and November 3, 4pm to 6pm. Teachers had a staff meeting last night to do scheduling for conferences, so please be watching for your conference time to be coming home.

Great Wolf Lodge…….. Wow, what deal!  Please read the attached flyer in regards to a special deal being offered in November.  The Great Wolf Lodge thought some of our families might be interested so t hey passed along the information.  We hope some of you can take advantage of this great deal.  Enjoy!!  : )        Microsoft Word – Gobble Gobble

Fire Coats 4 Kids – No Child Goes Cold…….. Georgetown Fire Department is starting our 2nd Annual “Fire Coats 4 Kids- No Child Goes Cold” Campaign.  Georgetown Township is the largest township in Ottawa County, with close to 50,000 residents.  Due to the current state of the economy there is a great need in the Jenison/Hudsonville school systems for winter coats.  In the 2010 school year there was an estimated 500 students in both school districts in need of assistance.  During this time, through donations from our generous community, we were able to collect and distribute over 800 coats to our school system and local charities.  This year we are hoping to match our successes from last year and collect new and gently used winter coats, gloves, and hats for the kids of Georgetown Township.
It’s easy to donate, we have three convenient locations:
GTFD Station 1: located on the corner of 44th St. and 14th Ave.
GTFD Station 2: located at 7518 Church St., just west of Main St.
GTFD Station 3: located south of Baldwin on 36th Ave.
Donations will be accepted at these locations until mid December.
Also you can donate at the Georgetown Twp. Library at 1525 Baldwin St.
Please join us on Tues. November 9 from 7 to 9pm at our Station 2 for our coat giveaway night.  If you are in need of a coat please RSVP to this event.  Questions, RSVP’s, or pick-ups, please contact: Brett Wright 616-706-4020 or Corrie Glupker 616-862-4001. Thanks.
