Final Week of School: June 3-7, 2019

Kinsman’s Chalk Art – May 31, 2019

This week will be an emotional rollercoaster for many of us at Georgetown.

JOY:  The sun will be out and the temperatures will be warming up to a ‘summer-like feeling’.

FRUSTRATION:  The challenge of fitting all those extra belongings in backpacks for the final time.  Be prepared for sweatshirts, art work, homework you had no idea was assigned, sticky objects and lots of other fun objects that have been stuffed in lockers and table cubbies.

HAPPINESS:  The feeling of taking the last test, quizzes and learning work for the 2019-20 school year.

SADNESS:  The realization that we will be away from one another for many weeks — and that our year together went by faster than we thought it would.   For me, saying goodbye to our fifth graders is always mixed with sadness for me and feeling excited for their next educational journey.

NERVOUSNESS:  Going from a  predictable school set of routines, expectations and guidelines to summer fun at home or daycare with a new schedule to negotiate.

EXCITEMENT:  Ending one year and looking forward to finding out next year’s teacher!  Report cards will go be mailed on June 14.  All report cards will have next year’s teacher listed in the comment section.  We have put HOURS AND HOURS into developing class lists.  No changes can be made.

We have some busy days this week…and we are very hopeful the weather forecast holds true.  The schedule below gives some highlights … all the way to the first day of school next year.  Also, we will not have open library this summer.  Teacher family schedules are too complex this summer to create enough volunteers to host the event.  Fingers crossed for next year.

Thank you for an amazing year with your children.  Your donations at the beginning of the year for popcorn days and WALK-A-THON made many events possible — along with providing materials and equipment for learning and play.  This summer, our school mission BE NICE, WORK HARD, LEARN WELL will be posted in the rotunda via some very cool signage.  This signage was made possible with your support of our WALK-A-THON.  You’ll get to see these signs at our open houses in August.

The photo at the top is Kinsman, a kindergartener who made a chalk drawing for ME on Friday.  It has some of my favorite things:  Sunshine, love, chocolate and KINSMAN!

Enjoy your summer with your family and friends!
