Another Georgetown Baby!

Mrs. Becky VanSomeren, the director of Early Childhood Daycare and Preschool (affectionately referred to as Eagle’s Nest) had her baby on June 1, 2010.  She and her husband welcome Alayna Grace into their family…and oh what a blessing Alayna is to them!Alayna Grace 6-1-10 124

Mrs. VanSomeren will be home with Alayna through the summer and return in the fall.  Alayna is the fourth staff baby that we have welcomed this year.  She joins Liam, Cameron and Amelia!

Georgetown School Library OPEN this summer!

Reading  ClaytonIn order to keep reading going strong throughout the summer, we will be opening our Georgetown School Library once a week!

On Wednesdays,10:00-12:00 pm, we will have our library open for Georgetown students to Readerscheck out books. This is a great time to try out some new books, re-read some old favorites, re-connect with friends, and see some of your favorite teachers.

Our first date for Wednesday check-out will be June 16. Mark your calendars and hope to see you there!

LAST NOTES FROM THE OFFICE!

Hello Georgetown Parents:

Well believe it or not this is our last letter from the office for this school year!   We just wanted to send you a few reminders for next week.

KINDERGARTEN NOTES……  Just remember that Monday, June 7 is the last day of school for the Monday/Wednesday Kindergartners.  Tuesday, June 8 is the last day for the Tuesday/Thursday Kindergartners.

YEARBOOKS……  We have two more copies of the yearbook for sale in the office.  They will be sold for $10 a piece and they will be sold on a first come, first serve basis.

MEDS FROM THE OFFICE…..  If your student has any medication in the office,  either perscription/non-perscription, a parent needs to pick these up from the office.  These cannot be sent home with the student.  If they are not picked up by next Friday, June 11 they will be discarded!

LAST DAY OF SCHOOL….  Thursday, June 10 is our last day of school and the students will be dismissed at 1:00pm! The students will have lunch before leaving school and hot lunch will be available to order.

LOST AND FOUND….  This will be in the hall by the rotunda.  Anything that is not claimed will be donated after Friday, June 11!

BLOG BITS from the OFFICE 5/21/10

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

Well here it is 13 days and counting after today!  Woo-Hoo!!  : )

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

Just a couple of quick things from the office staff…… PLEASE make sure to send notes to school with your student/students if they will be riding bikes, walking, or be picked up from school at the end of the day. It gets really busy in the office and the teachers are busy, so therefor it is alot to keep track of with all the changes throughout the day!

FIELD TRIPS and upcoming activites……..  please make sure to read notes that come home AND check your child’s teacher’s BLOG for important information in regards to their upcoming field trips and special activities.  There are alot of things to remember this time of year and we are seeing alot of students coming unprepared for their special day!  We especially need parents to make sure they have packed lunches for students if this is required for their trip as many times the buses leave for the field trip before parents can get to school with a lunch.

GEORGETOWN CARNIVAL ……. Wow….. KUDOS to Georgetown Students!!!  We received a wonderful phone  call from Fun Services who put on the carnival to commend us on how WELL BEHAVED and POLITE all of our students were.  They said that many of their employees commented on how wonderful our students were.  The manager got so many comments from his staff that he wanted to make sure he passed on the wonderful comments to the head of our carnival committee! They said this was the best school they have ever worked at!  WOW, like we have said before….. GEORGETOWN STUDENTS ROCK!!!!

One last carnival note…..  we are pleased to announce that the Carnival raised over $3000 for the Lamers family!  Way to go!

GIRLS ON THE RUN…..  This Saturday, Georgetown’s Girls on the Run will be taking to the streets of Grand Haven for the GOTR Celebration 5k! Seventeen girls from Georgetown have spent the last 12 weeks working hard training! We can also thank the girls for the plants and flowers planted in our front yard! This was our community service project. Thanks girls! and good luck on Saturday!

5th GRADE NEWS….. Well from my own personal observations last night the 5th graders looked like they were having an awesome time at camp.  There were ALOT of smiles and it looked like they were have a great time during their recreation time.  However, I do believe they will extremely tired when they get home this afternoon!  Don’t forget also to mark June 7 on your calendars for their last big hoo-rah as elementary students!  YIKES!  Can you believe it?!

COMMUNITY NEWS……

HEAT SWIM TEAM…. Are you interested in being on the Hudsonville Swim team this summer?  The HEAT (Hudsonville Eagle Aquatics Team) has a place for you!  The Developmental (Beginner and Intermediate) levels start Saturday, May 22.  (8 & U from 12 to 1PM) and (9 and up from 1-2PM.)  Practice this summer will be from 6:30-7:30PM 2-3 days a week.  For more information visit www.hudsonvillepublicschools.org and click on the aquatics link or email coach Zuidema at  rzuidema@hpseagles.net Swimmers who have been on the team may choose to sign up for the Elite groups.  Elite swimmers watch your emails for more details.

HUDSONVILLE YOUTH FOOTBALL SIGN-UPS…. It is time to start thinking about youth football again. We encourage everyone to sign up online at www.hudsonvilleyouthfootball.com by July 12, 2010 or at the scheduled sign up date Monday, July 12, 2010 from 6-9pm at the Hudsonville High School Cafeteria.  We will also have the used equipment sale on Monday, July 12 at Hudsonville High School.    You can sign up online and go the used equipment sale.    The cost to play this year is $60 which is the same as last year.   There will be a late fee of $25 if you don’t sign up by July 12.    We will take no more signups after August 21.    For more detailed information go the website www.hudsonvilleyouthfootball.com.

URGENT – CARNIVAL HELP NEEDED! : )

GEORGETOWN PARENTS:

If you are able to help us out during the carnival, we are in need of several more volunteers!  PLEASE help us make this carnival a fun day for the kids by helping out for even an hour or two.  Contact Susie Coxen at susan@togc.net or call her at 669-3662 ASAP to sign up.

Also, please remember to drop off all Cake Walk and 2-Liter pop donations by this FRIDAY, MAY 14!

PTC MEETING MINUTES

Hello Georgetown Families!

Please read the following information from the PTC:

May 4, 2010 ~ Media Room – 7:00 p.m.

Board Members Present:  Kristi Fellows, Jamie Ham, Cindy Roerig, Krista Lawrence, Brenda Zuverink, Carrie Clark-Berry Attendees:  6

The meeting was opened by Kristi.  Staci Nieboer moved to approve the minutes from the last PTC meeting, with Angel Truman seconding.

TEACHER REPORT – MRS. BURDIS: The scores from recent testing that the 3rd through 5th graders completed have been received, and the students performed well.  It’s a very busy time of year at the school, so parents are urged to check the school blog and the teacher blogs regularly to keep up to date on all the activities coming up.  Class placement for next year is beginning, and the teachers thank all the parents who returned their child surveys to help in this process.  There’s only 3 weeks of school left!

REVIEW OF BUDGET – BRENDA ZUVERINK : The budget was reviewed, and no major changes are noted.  After a question at the last meeting about the amount of funds we keep in our account, a few other schools were contacted to see what their Treasurers’ policies are.  At this time Georgetown’s balance is lower than most but is an acceptable balance.

TEACHER APPRECIATION WEEK – MICHELLE WIERINGA: A fabulous Hollywood movie themed week is underway for our wonderful Georgetown teachers.  All the teachers are enjoying being spoiled this week with some wonderful lunches, a few gifts, as well as all the amazing superstar posters that are hanging throughout the school.  Thanks to Amanda Troyer for such a wonderful job on the posters turning all our teachers into a superstar or superhero!

READING COUNTS – ANGIE ROON: The Reading Counts end-of-year party will be held on June 4 with a Blast to the Past theme.  The 2nd and 3rd graders will celebrate in the morning and 4th and 5th graders will celebrate in the afternoon.  Some volunteers are still needed to help for this event.  Please contact Angie Roon at angroon@sbcglobal.net if you are able to help out.

SPRING CARNIVAL – KRISTI FELLOWS: Our annual Spring Carnival will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 11-2.  If you didn’t pre-purchase your wristbands, you can still purchase wristbands the day of the event for $15 each.  There will be lots of fun games, food, and auctions/raffles.  A few more volunteers are needed, so contact Susie Coxen at susan@togc.net as soon as possible if you’re able to help with this event.

2010-2011 PTC BOARD MEMBERS: Krista Lawrence moved to approve and Michelle Wieringa seconded the approval of the PTC Board for the 2010-2011 school year.  The new Board will be:

This is one special family that is in dire need.  Currently, the Lamers Family is financially struggling with medical expenses incurred with their son, Brodie, who has Cerebral Palsy, a paralyzing medical condition.  This family needs to make accommodations to their home as well as purchase a handicap accessible van for Brodie. In addition to Brodie, Tisha and Matthew have three children to support. In today’s economy, this has been quite a challenge.


The Parent Club would appreciate a donation from ALL of our students.

We need for all students to bring in:

Baked Goods for the Carnival Cake Walk Game: K – 2nd grades

2 Litters of Pop for the Carnival Pop Toss Game: 3rd – 5th grades


All baked goods & 2 liters of Pop should be dropped off to the school office by Friday, 05/14/2010 by 4:00 PM.

HUDSONVILLE ROCKET CHEERLEADING… Is your daughter going into 1st-8th grade next fall and interested in cheerleading?  Hudsonville Rocket Cheerleading will be having their sign up date on Saturday, May 15th.  Registration will be held at the Hudsonville High School Cafeteria from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The cost of registration is $50 and includes an end of year banquet and trophy.  An additional uniform cost applies for those that do not have one.  Used uniforms will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.  The 1st-6th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Youth Football games and the 7th & 8th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Club Football games.  If you have questions about the program, please contact me.  Email:  hudsonvillerocketcheer@yahoo.com or call coach Britni at 616-634-9580.  I look forward to seeing you at registration!

WRISTBANDS FOR CARNIVAL

Hey Georgetown Parents!

This is just a friendly reminder from our wonderful Carnival Staff!

Just a reminder that pre-sale wristbands for the Spring Carnival on May 15 are due this Friday, May 7.  If you haven’t sent in your order form and would like to receive wristbands at the discounted price of $10 each, have the order form and payment returned to school by Friday.  Any 2-liters of pop for the carnival can also be dropped off at the school anytime between now and Friday, May 14.  All baked goods should be dropped off at the school on Friday, May 14.

We are still in need of some adult volunteers to help out during the carnival.  Please contact Susie Coxen at susan@togc.net or 669-3662 as soon as possible if you’re able to help us out.  Thank you!

Happy FRIDAY Georgetown Families!!  Wow, what a week……. but what more could we ask for…  a beautiful and sunny Friday!  Woo-hoo!  Also not that we are counting or anything, but someone made us a wonderful countdown chart for the office and we are down to 29 days of school!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

GEORGETOWN SPRING CARNIVAL….. In order to participate in the games and bounce house, etc the children will need to have a wristband.  Any child over 2 years of age will be required to have a wristband to participate.  Wristbands purchassed in advance will be $10 and if you purchase the day of the wristband will be $15.  The pre-sale ends MAY 7TH. 4th GRADE NEWS…..4th Graders have one more week of swimming. This will go until May 7.  Please make sure your student is prepared for this!  Remember a towel, a swim suit, and most important of all….. don’t forget to send the “unmentionables” if the student wears their suit to school underneath their clothing.  The office always has to make many phone calls for such things when swimming starts.  We appreciate your planning ahead for this!  : )

5TH GRADE NEWS….. Parents don’t forget that Monday night, MAY 3 from 7p-8:30p is the parent/student Sixth Grade Orientation at Baldwin Middle School in the gymnasium.  MAY 11 at 6:oopm is the parent meeting for 5th Grade Camp with a chaperon meeting immediately following.  This will be held the Mult-Purpose Room here at Georgetown.  Lastly for this week, make sure and mark your calendars with the 5th Grade Camp dates of MAY 19-21!

SCHOOL ELECTION…..   ~ Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, May 4, 2009! Ballot items include:
Non-Homestead Renewal – Hudsonville voters will be asked to approve the annual renewal of the 18 mill non-homestead property tax.  This is a tax on businesses and second homes, not on homestead residences or qualified agricultural property.  Taxes on homestead residences will remain at the 1994 millage rate.

Board Election – Two four-year seats are open this year. Four candidates are running:

TASTE OF HUDSONVILLE……. On Saturday, May 1st the Hudsonville Band Boosters will be sponsoring “Taste of Hudsonville” in the Hudsonville High School gymnasium from 2-5pm.  This community-wide event will showcase a variety of area restaurants as well as the instrumental music talent of the Hudsonville Band program.  In addition to great food and music, a large silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held.  Tickets for the event can be purchased daily in the Hudsonville High School office, in the high school lobby on Mondays from 5-6pm and at Lake Michigan Credit Union on 32nd Ave. beginning Monday, April 12th.  Advanced sale tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under  ($12 for adults and $6 for children at the door).

CHILDREN’S LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION EVENT…….The Walk: Grand Rapids, Sixth Street Bridge Park     Date: May 1, 2010    Time: Registration – 9 a.m. The Walk – 10 a.m.    Route: Scenic 3-mile walk through Downtown Grand Rapids   $20 pre-registration fee. $25 day-of registration fee.  The Walk will provide food, refreshments, and entertainment.  For more information contact, Kelli at 248-530-3009 orkzgieb@leukemiamichigan.org

SCHWAN’S TRUCKLOAD SALE…… Support HHS student athletes by purchasing frozen foods at the Schwan’s Truckload Sale on May 4!  Simply drive up to a Schwan’s truck and purchase your favorite food items at HHS Athletic Events on the evening of May 4, or place a pre-order using a catalog available here at school.  It’s that easy!  Current customers, why not help the Athletic Dept. by taking part in the Truckload Sale and purchasing items that you plan to purchase anyway?  To those of you who don’t regularly purchase Schwan’s, why not give it a try in order to benefit the hundreds of student athletes at HHS?  Show your Eagle Pride by taking part in the Schwan’s Truckload Sale on May 4!  GO EAGLES!

Good Friday afternoon again Georgetown parents!  Hope this week has been good to all of you, as it has been a good week here at school.

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

10TH ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW….. Please see the attached flyer in regards to the upcoming Art Show for the Hudsonville Public Schools.  Everyone is welcome to come out and see all the great works of art done by our very own Hudsonville students. The event is held at Park Elementary and is open from 5:30pm to 7:30pm from April 26th through April 29th.  The attachment has all the details.

GEORGETOWN’S SPRING CARNIVAL…..Our spring carnival will be held on Saturday, May 15 from 11am to 2pm.  In order to participate in the games and bounce house, etc the children will need to have a wristband.  Any child over 2 years of age will be required to have a wristband to participate.  Wristbands purchassed in advance will be $10 and if you purchase the day of the wristband will be $15.  The pre-sale ends MAY 7TH. Wristbands will be handed out to those you pre-ordered on or before May 14.  Please make checks payable to Georgetown PTC.  If you have any questions please contact Susie Coxen at 669-3662 or Stacey Alexander at 914-6896.

4th GRADE NEWS…..4th Graders will be starting their swimming lessons on MONDAY!!!! This will go until May 7.  Please make sure your student is prepared for this!  Remember a towel, a swim suit, and most important of all….. don’t forget to send the “unmentionables” if the student wears their suit to school underneath their clothing.  The office always has to make many phone calls for such things when swimming starts.  We appreciate your planning ahead for this!  : )

5th GRADE NEWS.…..COURSE SELECTIONS are due back to your child’s teacher by April 28. Please make sure to return these on time as the Middle School needs these to get things rolling for schedules for next year.  Lastly, MAY 3  from 7-8:30p is the parent/student Sixth Grade Orientation night at Baldwin Middle School.  Please make sure and mark your calendars for these important upcoming dates.

LUNCH NEWS…..More Environmentally Friendly Lunch Tray Introduced.  In celebration of the 40th anniversary of Earth Day, the food service program introduced a more environmentally friendly lunch tray at the elementary buildings on Monday April 19.  This tray is part of the envirofoam line of environmentally friendly disposable products offered by Dispozo.  This tray has 21.8% recycled pre-consumer waste and 100% recycled Carbon Dioxide (CO2) used in its manufacturing. SCHOOL ELECTION…..   ~ Don’t forget to vote on Tuesday, May 4, 2009! Ballot items include:
Non-Homestead Renewal – Hudsonville voters will be asked to approve the annual renewal of the 18 mill non-homestead property tax.  This is a tax on businesses and second homes, not on homestead residences or qualified agricultural property.  Taxes on homestead residences will remain at the 1994 millage rate.

Board Election – Two four-year seats are open this year. Four candidates are running:

COMMUNITY ED NEWS…. The Summer Activities booklet from Community Ed will be coming home today and Monday with our youngest and only students.  This is a listing of all the activities that Community Ed will be offering throughout the summer.

COMMUNITY NEWS….. HUDSONVILLE ROCKET CHEERLEADING
Is your daughter going into 1st-8th grade next fall and interested in cheerleading?  Hudsonville Rocket Cheerleading will be having their sign up date on Saturday, May 15th.  Registration will be held at the Hudsonville High School Cafeteria from 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. The cost of registration is $50 and includes an end of year banquet and trophy.  An additional uniform cost applies for those that do not have one.  Used uniforms will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis.  The 1st-6th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Youth Football games and the 7th & 8th grade girls will be cheering at the Hudsonville Club Football games.  If you have questions about the program, please contact me.  Email:  hudsonvillerocketcheer@yahoo.com or call coach Britni at 616-634-9580.  I look forward to seeing you at registration!

TASTE OF HUDSONVILLE……. On Saturday, May 1st the Hudsonville Band Boosters will be sponsoring “Taste of Hudsonville” in the Hudsonville High School gymnasium from 2-5pm.  This community-wide event will showcase a variety of area restaurants as well as the instrumental music talent of the Hudsonville Band program.  In addition to great food and music, a large silent auction and 50/50 raffle will be held.  Tickets for the event can be purchased daily in the Hudsonville High School office, in the high school lobby on Mondays from 5-6pm and at Lake Michigan Credit Union on 32nd Ave. beginning Monday, April 12th.  Advanced sale tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children 12 and under  ($12 for adults and $6 for children at the door).

CHILDREN’S LEUKEMIA FOUNDATION EVENT…….The Walk: Grand Rapids, Sixth Street Bridge Park     Date: May 1, 2010    Time: Registration – 9 a.m. The Walk – 10 a.m.    Route: Scenic 3-mile walk through Downtown Grand Rapids   $20 pre-registration fee. $25 day-of registration fee.  The Walk will provide food, refreshments, and entertainment.  For more information contact, Kelli at 248-530-3009 orkzgieb@leukemiamichigan.org
