WOO-HOO it is Christmas Break Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…. Wow, can you  believe it?!  It is Christmas Break already and we have two weeks off!  YIPPEE!!  Our Holiday Program was another huge success.  We had a great turnout as usual and all of the students did a great job.  It was a great night.  The school has just been a buzz with all of the holiday festivities going on around here.  The parties all went well.  So enjoy the time off, rest, relax and enjoy your kids while they are home with you and we will be ready to go when January 3 rolls around.

BEFORE SCHOOL DROP OFF ….. This is just a friendly reminder from the office staff and the morning staff who are on the playgrounds before school.  PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE….. when dropping your students off in the morning make sure they walk around the building on the sidewalk to their playground. I KNOW it is cold now in the morning, however, the students should be dressing warm enough to be out on the playground before school. In the office we keep track of the temperature and the wind chill factor every morning to make sure it is not too cold outside for the kids.  So the students should not be walking through the building in the morning before school, but going straight to their playground.  Thanks for your help and support with this matter.

ART ROOM NEWS….. Please visit the art room blog to get further information in regards to the upcoming Marco’s Pizza Night in January.  The students are decorating pizza boxes that if you order pizza that night it will be delivered/picked-up in THEIR pizza box!  How cool is that.  The Marco’s dates are January 18 and 19!    Please click here for a direct link to the art room blog   ART ROOM

elf04FOOD SERVICE NEWS…… New Notification System for Lunch Accounts – Starting on January 3, 2011,  any parent that has an email address on file with the Hudsonville Schools PowerSchool system will automatically receive an email notice when their child’s lunch account has a low balance.  The low balance amount is $2.00 for paid children and $.80 for reduced children.  Once your child’s account drops to either of these amounts, you will receive an email letting you know that you need to send in more money.  You will also get a notice when your child’s account has a zero or negative amount. These notifications will be sent out Monday through Friday.  If you do not want to receive these email notifications, you need to contact Stacey Wykoski at swykoski@hpseagles.net by Friday December 31 to have this feature removed from your child’s account.  Please include your child’s first name, last name and grade in the email. Please feel free to contact Stacey at 667-3352 or swykoski@hpseagles.net if you have any questions.

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH………With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district isclosed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow
day will be moved to the next school day. An example: if school is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday. Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on the food service web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thank you! -Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director.

HAPPY FRIDAY GEORGETOWN PARENTS!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……… Well let’s just say the office is ready for Thanksgiving Break.  I think everyone needs a little time away and needs to get healthy!  Hopefully all of these wonderful germs will have settled down by then!  Please just make sure you are following the rule that if you child has a fever or has vomited that they need to stay home for 24 hours after the symptoms are gone!  That is so helpful to us here and helps to prevent others from getting these illnesses.

HELP NEEDED….. Please read the following as it is so important to our Holiday Shop. We REALLY need some more volunteers desperately!  If we can not get the volunteers needed this year we may have to stop doing this fun event for the students!  Please consider signing up for one of the following shifts!  The shop this year is Nov. 29 – Dec. 2.  These are the shifts that are available:   Monday, Nov. 29, 9:00 am – 12:30 pm (Set Up);  Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 30 and Dec. 1, 8:45 am – 12:00 pm and 12:00 pm – 3:15 pm;  Thursday, Dec. 2, 8:45 – 12:00 pm and 12:00 pm – 3:15 pm (tear down).

If you can help out at one or two shifts that would be wonderful!  Please email Jamie Ham at cjham20@comcast.net with your availability!  Thanks for your help in advance!

CHAPSTICK DRIVE……… WOW, way to go Georgetown!!  As a school you donated 1,307 chapsticks!  These were donated to the Helen Devos Children’s Hospital for children undergoing surgery.  The chapstick is used to “sweeten the smell” of the anesthesia when rubbed on the inside of the mask for children undergoing surgery.  Happy Bainbridge and Alaina DePuy did this service project for their Girl Scout Troup #2955.  Way to go girls!

HOLIDAY PROGRAM……. Don’t forget to mark your calendars for our annual Holiday Program!  It will be on THURSDAY, DECEMBER 9 AT 7PM!  It will be at Resurrection Life Church in Grandville.  (The same place as last year.)  Please visit this blog post for more info    HOLIDAY PROGRAM.

Cares program!  As a school we collected 2,398 food items that were donated to a local church’s food pantry.  The winning class of the bowling field trip and t-shirts was 5th Grade – Mrs. Burdis.  Way to go 5th graders!  As a class they collected 284 items!  Please visit the P.E. Blog for the top 5 classes that collected the most items.

PTC NEWS……. Marco’s Pizza Night winner……… was Mrs. Jabaay’s Kindergarten class! Way to go Kindergartners!!  You guys are going to get a pizza party for lunch one day.  We once again had great participation and earned $110 for Georgetown.  What an easy way for families to help support our school and put food on the table!  Thanks again!!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE………. Well it has been an interesting week here at Georgetown.  This is just an FYI message from the office staff…. we have sent home ALOT of students this week with the stomach flu!!  YUCK  : (  So just keep tabs on your students if they happen to tell you their stomach is upset.  It is quite a bad stomach bug, mostly vomiting and headache.  As a helpful reminder, please keep your child home for 24 hours after they have vomited for the last time.  This is a huge help and helps to prevent the spread of the germs here at school.  We are taking every precaution here too when the students get sick at school to sanitize.

SNOW DAY PROCEDURE FOR HOT LUNCH………. I know, I know, I know…. it’s a little early to be talking like this, but we must do it and we were asked by food service to get this information out.  So here it comes…….With snow just around the corner, the food service program would like to remind parents and students about what will happen if school is closed due to weather. If the district is closed, the menu that was supposed to be served on the snow day will be moved to the next school day. An example: ifschool is canceled on Tuesday due to weather, Tuesday’s menu will be served on Wednesday and the menu that was scheduled for Wednesday will be completely canceled.  Because of our computer lunch account system, there will be no need to issue credits and your student will still be able to order a lunch if they need one. The only exception to this policy is if school is canceled on Friday. In this case, Friday’s
menu will be completely canceled and we will continue with the regular menu on Monday. Information on what menu will be served on the day you return will be available on the food service web page at www.jenhudfood.org. Please feel free to contact the food service department at 457-2400 if you have any questions or are unsure of what the menu will be. Thankyou! -Stacey L. Wykoski, Food Service Director

Fire Coats 4 Kids – No Child Goes Cold…….. Georgetown Fire Department is starting our 2nd Annual “Fire Coats 4 Kids- No Child Goes Cold” Campaign.  Georgetown Township is the largest township in Ottawa County, with close to 50,000 residents.  Due to the current state of the economy there is a great need in the Jenison/Hudsonville school systems for winter coats.  In the 2010 school year there was an estimated 500 students in both school districts in need of assistance.  During this time, through donations from our generous community, we were able to collect and distribute over 800 coats to our school system and local charities.  This year we are hoping to match our successes from last year and collect new and gently used winter coats, gloves, and hats for the kids of Georgetown Township.
It’s easy to donate, we have three convenient locations:
GTFD Station 1: located on the corner of 44th St. and 14th Ave.
GTFD Station 2: located at 7518 Church St., just west of Main St.

Donations will be accepted at these locations until mid December.

Happy Friday before Halloween!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…… Wow, what a busy day here at Georgetown!  It was party day and there was just a flurry of parents in and out of the building all day!  We are so sorry that Mrs. Ripley and Mrs. Nurenberg had to miss all the fun, however, they did call in a couple of fun PE subs to fill in in the office, a.k.a Mz. Ripster and Mz. Nurdie!

Conference Time……  Conference dates and times arates ane as follows…. November 1, 5pm to 8:30pm; November 2, 4pm to 6pm; and November 3, 4pm to 6pm. Teachers had a staff meeting last night to do scheduling for conferences, so please be watching for your conference time to be coming home.  PLEASE DO NOT FORGET TO CHECK THE LOST AND FOUND TABLE ON YOUR WAY PAST THE LIBRARY.

NOTES FOR THE TEACHER……  Parents this is a reminder from the staff and the office here at Georgetown.  We MUST have a note in order for your student to have a change in their transportation at the end of the day.  The teachers, rightfully so, have a hard time with all of the changes that are being made at the last minute at the end of the day!  If we DO NOT have a note stating that there is a change in plans for the end of the day the student will be sent home with their usual mode of transportation!  Remember, not only does this inconvenience you, but we are also first and foremost concerned for the student’s safety when they arrive home!  We have had to make many phone calls at the end of the day due to students saying they are being picked up, but really they were supposed to go home as usual.  The office is very busy at the end of the day and the teachers do not have time to be double checking everyone’s schedule.  Thank you for your consideration in this very important matter.

AFTERSCHOOL BIBLE CLUB…. For those students participating in this activity there will be NO Bible Club next MONDAY, NOVEMBER 1ST!

PE NEWS…… Well were sorry about having to cancel the Turkey Trot this year, but we still have some winners here from Georgetown that were drawn out of the hat.  Here they are:  TURKEY WINNERS – Paige Gradowski (2-Kuieck), Alyssa Walker (3-Greenlund), Jakob Wortman (K-Bohl); APPLE CIDER WINNERS – Celia Barber (2-Quigley), Anna Fumarolo (K-Jabaay), Kelsey Gelder (4-Huizenga); PUMPKIN WINNERS – Kenzey Burget (1-Stadt), Colton Roby (3-VanArkel), and Ashley Strick (2-Quigley).

PTC NEWS….. We have Box Top winners to announce and the winners of the Marco’s Pizza night from last Wednesday.  BOX TOP WINNERS are as follows:  EARLY CHILDHOOD WING – Dylan Ham (1-Stadt), Addison Jeltema (1-Woodring); 2ND/3RD GRADE WING – Jaron Dykstra (2-Quigley), Elizabeth Ball (2-Kuieck);  4TH/5TH GRADE WING – Brendan Ham (4-Bowen); Emilee Peterson (4-Huizenga).  These lucky winners all receive a $5 gift certificate to McDonald’s!
