Happy Friday afternoon Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……… Wow, was that not cool to have a snow day this week?!  I absolutely love them and hopefully we can possibly squeak out one more this year!  One day this week we had to have inside recess because of the temperatures, but we love it when the kids can go out and play.  Just as a reminder on how we determine whether it will be outside/inside recess……. we log on to Wood TV8’s website and they have a weather station right next door at Daybreak Church.  This tells us the temperature and wind chill.  The ONLY time the students stay inside is when the windchill is BELOW ZERO.  We monitor this in the morning and before every recess, so please just make sure your kids have the appropriate outdoor wear for recess.

We still seem to be having an issue with a lot of tardy students in the morning.  Please, we are asking on your part that you get your students to school on time when you are dropping them off.  If they arrive late from the bus, this is not marked as a tardy.  As a reminder the first bell rings at 8:45am and the second bell at 8:50am, which is when the students should be settled in their class.  When students are on time this makes attendance MUCH easier for the teachers AND the  office.  Thank you.

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..  We had another good week here at Georgetown.  We are just hoping for some snow to come soon so recess will be a little more exciting!!  Hopefully next week!  : )  We do have one issue that we would like to address with parents.  Since we have returned from our Holiday Break we are seeing a TON of students arriving late to school.  The first bell in the morning rings at 8:45am and the second bell rings at 8:50am, which is when the students should be all settled in their classrooms!  We (being the teachers AND the office) would really appreciate if your students were here and settled by 8:50.  It is much harder for attendance for the teachers and makes the attendance take much longer in the office if we are calling on all of the late students.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held at Georgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm.  Please remember that it is NOT a first come/first serve basis as far as turning in your registrations.  We will not be holding PK at Georgetown next year.  Our students that request PK will be going to Bauer.  Your child should be 5 on or before NOVEMBER 1 this year to enter EITHER PK or Kindergarten.  IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1 you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.  These WAIVERS will be attached to the Kindergarten registrations.  You ONLY need to fill out the waiver if your child turns 5 BETWEEN the dates of NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1, 2013.

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..  Well it has been a very quiet week here at Georgetown.  Of course we are not complaining by any means!  We hope everyone enjoyed their break and are ready to settle back in to the routine of school again.  January is a pretty quiet month here at school so not too many things to report.  Do not forget the Father/Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, January 26.  Hopefully soon we will have some snow for the kids to play in!  Please  remember to send warm outerwear even if there is no snow, it is still cold.  Also try to remind your students to stay out of the mud at recess.  We have had to call parents a few times this week already for clean clothes.  : (

BLOG BITS 12/14/12

BLOG BITS 12/14/12……….  Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE ……….. Holy Toledo….. ONLY 5 more days until Holiday Break!  I cannot believe I just typed this.  This week was a fun one here for the students, they got to do there holiday shopping at the Holiday Gift Shop.  Next week will fly by too with it being the last 5 days before break and the holiday parties.

COATS/HATS/MITTENS………..  Parents please remember as it is getting colder that students need to be bringing coats/hat and mittens to school.  We know there is not any snow yet, however, it has been really cold and windy the past few days.  We have been seeing a lot of students outside without these essential items for recess.  PLEASE REMIND your student that they need to wear these outside for recess too!! Thank you  : )

ILLNESSES……. there is still a lot of this going through our building.  The fevers/sore throats have been lasting for up to 5 days.  There has been some of the stomach virus still lingering with a fever too.  Please remember to keep your children home until they are fever free for 24 hours without meds and have stopped vomiting for 24 hours.  Thank you.

LUNCH DEPOSITS …….. PLEASE remember when sending these in with your students that you include their FIRST/LAST name and TEACHER name on the envelope.  The lunch room has been getting a lot of deposits without names and this is very difficult for her to determine who the deposit goes to.  Especially when it is a cash deposit!!  Thank you.  : )

5TH GRADE CANDY CANE SALE……….  The annual 5th grade Candy Cane sale is officially here!  Each year, our 5th grade classes sell candy canes to help raise money for their end of year 5th grade camp experience and celebration. This year the sale runs through Friday, December 21. The cost for each candy cane is $1.00 and they will be delivered the same day they are ordered.  Thank you for your support and Happy Holidays!

CALL INS and LATE ARRIVALS…………  Please try to remember to call in for your student if they are not going to be attending school for the day OR even if they will be a late arrival.  Especially with illnesses on the rise right now, we have been needing to make more phone calls home to check on students who are not accounted for.  With 625 students in this building it can take quite a while to get through attendance.  If you can help us with this matter that would be great!  Please remember you can call the office number 24/7 and leave us a message.  Thank you  : )

GIRLS ON THE RUN……… SHOE FITTING………  Due to a scheduling difficulty with Gazelle Sports, there has been a change in the January shoe fitting schedule. The first shoe fitting on Saturday, January 5th at CWIT is no longer happening. Instead, we will have a fitting on Saturday, January 26th, still at CWIT.  Thank you.

BLOG BITS 11/30/12

BLOG BITS 11/30/12………  Happy Last Friday of November!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……….  I cannot believe I just said that it is the last Friday in November!  So here we go with the count down until Christmas Break……..15 school days!  Holy Toledo, hold on tight the holidays will be here before we know it and kids will be home for 2 fun filled weeks of vacation.  We hope all of you enjoyed the Holiday program this week.  The students did an amazing job, as did the music teachers.  It seems nice to have the program behind us and the kids can just relax and enjoy their friends and their holiday parties now before Christmas break.  If you want to watch this on WCET, the viewing times are in this post.

STUDENT EARLY PICK-UP……….  In regards to students getting picked up early for appointments, etc. we are going to be doing things a little differently here in the office.  Please STILL continue to send a note to the teacher informing them that you will picking up your student early.  This will help to ensure that the students are ready for pick up.  However, as far as the office goes we WILL NOT call the student down to the office until you are here to sign them out.  We have just been seeing more that we call the student down and then they are not picked up on time and they end up missing more of their instructional time in class.  Our suggestion to you as parents is to arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure that you leave on time with your student.  Thank you.

LUNCH SCHEDULES……. Just wanted to get these out there again  as we have been getting frequent calls in regards to this.  KINDERGARTEN, recess 11:20-11:35, lunch 11:40-12:00; 1ST GRADE, recess 11:30-11:45, lunch 11:50-12:10;  2ND GRADE, recess 12:00-12:10, lunch 12:15-12:35;  3RD GRADE, recess 12:05-12:15, lunch 12:20-12:40;  4TH GRADE, recess 12:30-12:40, lunch 12:45-1:05;  5TH GRADE, recess 12:35-12:45, lunch 12:50-1:10.

Week 4…Walk A Thon Time!

Throughout this week,  you will hear updates on the top earning classes for our TREK for TECH Walk-A-Thon (Wed Sept 26).  We will make an announcement at the end of each day sharing the top three classes with the final winning class announced one week from Monday.

The winning class (most money raised for our 2012 Trek for Tech Walk-A-Thon) will take a limo ride to a local pizza restaurant for lunch.

To help track the totals, we are encouraging students to enter their daily total in this walk-a-thon survey.  Enter once per day—and we will use this to estimate lead classes.  Thank you for your donations for our only MAJOR PTC fundraiser for the 2012-13 school year.

We will have two blue/gold days this week…one on Wednesday for our Walk-A-Thon and one on Friday, Homecoming Day.  This is also the day that you can come to the FUN FEST at Eagle’s Stadium to Dunk Mr. Kooiker and Mr. Jurewicz!  Be there at 4:30 pm and help raise money for the Hudsonville Education Foundation.

A snapshot of our school calendar is below.  Enjoy the remainder of your weekend.

HAPPY FRIDAY GEORGETOWN PARENTS!!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..Can you believe it??!  We have just completed our second week of school already!  We here in the office feel like we are running like a fine oiled machine.  Maybe that is what happens after 6 years?  I must say also that our Kindergartners are doing a fabulous job!  They seem to be handling all day every day kindergarten very well.  Kudos to Kindergartners!  : )

PICTURE DAY……..  Is MONDAY!!!  September 17.  Please remember to send in your order form with your student.  Do not worry if your student is going to be a late arrival on Monday, they can go and have their picture taken when they get here if there class has already gone.

NOTES TO TEACHERS, ETC……….  This is just a friendly suggestion to help out our wonderful teachers.  When sending in notes to the teachers it is EXTREMELY helpful if you DATE the note.  Sometimes inadvertently the teacher will not remove the note from folders or leave it posted up and if there is not date on it, they can get confused as to which day the note is for.  Thank you.

LUNCH INFO……..  I am attaching the SEPTEMBER hot lunch menu and a deposit slip for you.  Remember too that you are able to make deposits to your student’s lunch account online now.  You will need their student ID # which you can get from our office.  The website for online lunch access is www.sendmoneytoschool.com   Sept. 2012 Elementary Menu       Deposit Slip (1)
