Reading ROCKS!

It is hard to believe the first Reading Counts party is already over!  The students had fun at the various stations which included playing games, making their very own pet rock, watching a cool science experiment with paper mache volcanoes made by Staci Niebor, and having a healthy snack of trail mix. The parties in the afternoon truly enjoyed our special guest, Jonny Nelson, talk about interesting facts on mountain climbing.  At the end of the party, each student received rock candy as a special treat for all their hard work. Good job students of Georgetown Elementary for achieving your 100% Reading Counts goal! Video below…

The Reading Counts celebration certainly would not have been possible without help from all the wonderful parents, staff, and many others who took time out of their busy schedules to be volunteers.  Thank you to the volunteers for all your help to make this celebration a true success!

Mark your calendars! The next celebration will be Friday, March 13, 2009.  Kelly Keur and Kelly Barz has changed the bulletin board to the solar system!  Be sure to watch as the “stars” go across the board marking the 100% of each student’s goal.   Mrs. Roon, Reading Counts Chairperson

Many thanks to Mrs. Roon and all the volunteers…and Mrs. VandenBerg, From Mrs. Reagan

Staff Holiday Breakfast

Christy Hultink and Kristi Fellows, Parent Club members, hosted a beautiful holiday breakfast for all the staff members of Georgetown.  The tables were lined with evergreens and candles and smells of pastries, quiche and coffee filled the air.  Staff members received notes of appreciation, along with stipends to put toward the purchase of classroom materials.  (I do believe that Krista Lawrence pulled an “all-nighter” writing these notes and making out checks!)  Tremendous thanks to all the parents who donated the food–and made this event possible.  We, the staff of Georgetown, feel honored to work with you and your children each day!

Top Secret Shopping….Shhh!

If you happen to walk by our media center this week, you might do a double take.  Through the windows, you will see tables covered with many different types of gifts — ranging from Eagle’s gear to jewelry to toys, etc.  The room has been transformed into a department store!  Students have been shopping all week, searching for the just right gifts for special people in their lives.  This event is made possible by our Parent Club, and it is an absolutely invaluable service.  Sincere thanks to Jamie Ham for organizational talents, and the many warm hearted parents who assist these very important shoppers.  **Note:  The gifts in the photos below have been blurred out to prevent parents from snooping!

Box Tops   The winners of the November Classroom Box Tops competition are : Mr. Gort(4th) with 221 Box Tops and Mr. Bowen(2nd) with a whopping 431 Box Tops.  Each class will be rewarded with their choice of donuts or cupcakes for the great numbers they collected.  The December competition will begin on November 24th and continue until December 19th.  This will be an individual competition with the top collectors from upper and lower elementary receiving gift cards to Blockbuster and Arby’s.  Please be sure to mark your entries with your child’s name and teacher to get the proper credit.

Cash for Cash    Don’t forget to purchase your gift cards through our cash for cash program, some cards are available to purchase on the spot Fridays from 3:15 pm.   We challenge each family to buy four $25 gas cards before the end of the school year. This is a great way to make a donation to our school PTC.

Paper Gator: Don’t forget to fill the Paper Gator.  If the bin is full, please don’t leave your recyclable paper outside!  It blows and creates a mess for Mr. Rob to deal with.  Thank you for your attention to this.
