New School Year and FORMS FORMS FORMS

We are preparing the school for your OPEN HOUSES next week!  This is an opportunity for families to come back to school and meet their new teacher, pick up forms for parent to complete and re-connect with friends.

Our OPEN HOUSE schedule is as follows:

  • PK •  Monday, August 25 – 6:30-7:30
  • K • Tuesday, August 26 – 6:30-7:30
  • Grades 1-5 • August 27 – 6:30-7:30

When you visit your child’s classroom during the Open House, A WELCOME ENVELOPE will be available for you to take home. Inside the envelope, there will be paperwork to complete and paperwork to review.

Welcome Packet will include these required forms that MUST be returned to office:

  • Family Compact (green paper)

  • Background check (yellow paper – must be completed if you plan to attend or volunteer at any school event).  You can complete this in advance if you’d like.  Back Background Check GES

  • Student Profile Sheet (white paper)

Forms that are not required but may apply:

Medication Consent Form  If your child needs to take medication at school, state law requires that you complete this form and submit it to the school office with the medication.  This form must be completed if you want us to administer medication to your child at school.

Student Accident Insurance:  The school district does not provide any type of health or accident insurance for injuries incurred by your child at school.  As a service to students and their families, our school is making available a student accident insurance plan for your child at a fairly nominal cost.  The district offers this program because of trends in rising family health and dental insurance costs, increased deductibles, co-payments, or lack of health or dental insurance coverage.  If interested, complete the paperwork and submit it as directed.

Elementary Guidelines:  Please review these so that are familiar with the district policy for a variety of procedures.

 ****************************************************

Two important items that we receive many phone calls about during the year:  BUS PASS REQUEST POLICY and DROP OFF/PICK UP.

BUS PASS REQUEST POLICY

Procedures for Grades 1-5 are as follows:  In order for your child to ride a different bus home, it must be approved by Transportation.  The school cannot approve the change.  Do not send a note to school asking that your child ride a different bus home.  You must contact Transportation for children in grades 1-5.  PK and K students can NOT change busses.

Parents must submit a BUS PASS REQUEST to the transportation office by 10:00 am the morning of the transportation change.  Parents notified by 1:00 pm if the change if approved or denied.    If you have questions call Transportation:  616-669-7757

STUDENT DROP OFF AND PICK UP

This is a very busy time in the school drive and hallways.  Follow these procedures for safety/security:

1.  CHILD DROP OFF

If you are dropping your child off at school, please do this in the front circle drive.  Your child will then walk outside the building to his/her playground until the bell rings at 8:45 am.   If your child arrives after school begins, you must walk him/her into the front office and sign your child in for the day.  Our school secretaries will have a sign-in log available at the front desk.  Your child will then walk to his/her classroom.

2.  CHILD PICK UP

For those of you who pick your child up after school, please report to the front lobby.  If your child normally rides the bus, SEND A NOTE ADDRESSED TO THE TEACHER AND DATED indicating that you will be providing pick up.  PLEASE DO NOT GO TO THE CLASSROOMS.   DO NOT GO TO THE BUS LOOP.  Wait in lobby.

It is important that we keep our hallways open at the end of the day so that we can exit the building efficiently and calmly.  The PK/K teachers will have assistants to walk students to the office for pick up.   ALL STUDENTS MUST BE PICKED UP PROMPTLY AT 3:45    Thank you for your help in this matter!

Happy Spring Break Georgetown Parents!!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE…….  Well we made it!!  Spring Break is here!!  Yes, I know the day is not over, but I look at it this way…. we showed up today so officially we have made it to Spring Break!  What a day we had!  The Talent Show was fabulous as usual and the kids are really excited about having a few days off.  Remember that school resumes on Monday, April 9 and the first Friday we are back to school, which is Friday, April 13, that will be a TUESDAY/THURSDAY PK/K day!

LUNCH INFORMATION……… Here is the April lunch menu and a new deposit slip if you need one.   April 2012 Hud Elem     Menu Deposit Slip

BIKES/RIPSTICKS/ETC…….  Wow have we had a full bike rack this week!!  This warm weather sure does bring out the bikes and ripsticks.  With that being said, PLEASE REMEMBER to send a note with your child to their teacher giving them permission to ride/walk/ripstick home.  Unless you have done so, the teacher will be required to send them home however they normally get home, such as the bus!  Thank you for your help in this matter  : )

STUDENT DROP OFF……..    We have been noticing a HUGE increase in the amount of students being dropped off in the back of the school by the bus loop and the Middle School parking lot.  For student safety reasons we MUST have ALL students dropped off in front of Georgetown in the CIRCLE DRIVE.  The students are then able to walk around the building on the sidewalks to their playground.  Thank you for adhering to this safety rule.

ENTRANCE DRIVE SAFETY…….  As some of you are aware,  we had our first accident at the entrance to Georgetown/Baldwin Middle this week.  The car was attempting to make a left hand turn ONTO Baldwin St and was hit by an oncoming car.  Everyone was ok with minor cuts/bruises, none the less, a scary situation.  We are asking that during the busy drop-off and pick-up times that parents use the service drive by the athletic stadiums if you are needing to make a left hand turn onto Baldwin St.  This way you will come to an intersection with a traffic light.

One more thing in regards to the entrance drive…….. we have a huge concern for student safety here.  Cars are pulling into the drive and exiting the school at a high rate of speed.  This is becoming a safety concern more so now due to the amount of students walking/riding bikes to school.  PLEASE SLOW DOWN as you enter/exit the school drive!!  Thank you!  Remember it is for the safety of the students  : )

SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT EVENTS…….  As many of you know, Spencer Meyer is a very special Kindergarten student here at Georgetown in Mrs. Estefan’s class and his parents, Jason and Jodi, are also staff members within the district.  Spencer is battling Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia and in March the family was informed that the cancer had returned in his spine.   The entire district is helping to raise money for the SPENCER MEYER BENEFIT FUND and we have a few things to let you know about.  These are great ways to help the family in this time of need!!

BENEFIT BASKETBALL GAME…….. will be held Friday, April 27 at 7:00pm at the High School.  This will be great night of fun for everyone!!  The game will be between the staff at Baldwin Middle and Riley Middle.  It will be the “Baldwin Street Ballers vs. Riley Street Rim-Rattlers”!  Doors will open at 6:30pm and entrance fees will be a VOLUNTARY DONATION to the Spencer Meyer Fundraiser!  Please come out and join us to show your support for the Meyer family!  Lots of fun things and the Eagle’s Landing will be selling $1.00 Squishees (slushees), there will be Jet’s Pizza, Jimmy John’s, pop and candy!  What could be better?!  So MARK your calendars for FRIDAY, APRIL 27!!

TEAM SPENCER….. Fliers for this event should have come  home with your YOUNGEST/AND OR ONLY STUDENT.  I am also attaching it here in the blog.   TEAM SPENCER kids sign up sheet 2  Please read the attached flier or the one sent home with your student for ALL of the details.  This will be a donation for the Spencer Meyer Benefit Fund through sponsorship of runners and individual donations.  There will be a form coming home through PE for FREE REGISTRATION for the children’s events!  You may also order t-shirts on this form. If you want to purchase a t-shirt PLEASE make the check PAYABLE to:  MICHELE SYTSMA.   Once again this is a great way to help out the Meyer Family!!

ZOX Staps…….  These are really cool bracelets that we are selling to benefit Spencer Meyer AND Jarod/Caleb Mulder.  Jarod and Caleb are also students in the district and attend Park Elementary.  Mr. Mulder is ALSO an employee of the district just as the Meyer’s are!  Jarod and Caleb have a disorder called MPS3A.  These bracelets are being sold for ONLY $7 each in the office and all of the proceeds are going directly back to the families!!  Stop by the office and get one!!  We have been selling a TON of these and have had to get more almost every day this week.  We should have more available also after Spring Break. HURRY IN!!  : )

12th ANNUAL STUDENT ART SHOW…….. Save The Date!  The 12th Annual Student Art Show is just around the corner!  Hudsonville’s annual art show includes masterpieces from students throughout the district, including 100 pieces from our Georgetown artists.  The show runs April 23 through 26 at the Park Elementary Community Room.  There will be a special artist reception for Georgetown students Tuesday, April 24 from 5:30-7:30 PM.  Please check out the attached flyer that will be up in all of the schools to promote this great event.  2012 Flyer-Blog PDF

UPCOMING IMPORTANT DATES FOR 5TH GRADERS……..   April 10 ~ Instrument Fittings at Georgetown Elementary.  (This helps the students determine if and what instrument they might like to play in Middle School Band.)  April 18 ~ Parent Informational Meeting for parents of 5th graders.  This will be held at Baldwin Middle School in the Cafeteria at 7:00pm.

PTC NEWS……. Spring Book Fair……  Reports are in…… the Book Fair was a HUGE success with a sales of $5900!!  “One For Books” brought in a total of $134.  Books have been delivered to those students who had to order theirs.  Please contact Cindy Roerig at 450-5772 if your student is still missing a book.  Thank you!!

for you to come back to school!  Mr. Rob has painted playground stripes and even repainted the arrows on the driveway.  The teachers have cleaned the tables and prepared new lessons for learning.

If you came to open house on Tuesday (PK/K) and Wednesday (Gr 1-5), you could see how brilliantly we smiled when we saw you walk through the doors!

Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend…rest up…and head back to school on Tuesday, September 7 (T/TH K and grades 1-5) and September 8 (MW PK/K). If you are curious to find out what we do in the summer while you are away, watch this short video! Mrs. Reagan

Kindergartener’s First Day

If you have a pre-kindergartener or kindergartener starting school this year, please keep in mind that the start dates are as follows:

  • Tuesday/Thursday Alternating Friday:  September 8, 2009  (Grades 1-5 begin on this day also)
  • Monday/Wednesday Alternating Friday:  September 9, 2009

Your child can ride the bus to school on the first day or ride in the car.  I am aware that the Appleseed communication encourages parents to provide car transportation for PreK and K students on the first day of school, but this is your choice as a parent.

Our PreK and K Open Houses will be held on September 1, 2009.  This is geared toward parents attending with their PK/K child.

  • Mrs. Estefan and Mrs. Weiss  and Mrs. Bohl’s MW will hold their open houses from 5:30 to 6:15 pm.
  • Mrs. Bohl’s TTH and Mrs. Nederveld will hold their open houses from 6:30 to 7:15 pm.

The alternating day Friday schedule for this year can be found here:  PK/K FRIDAYs

School Hours and other schedules can be found:  HOURS and   SCHEDULES
