Georgetown Family Service Project

We are a Georgetown family who feels incredibly blessed during this time of economic stress in West Michigan. For this reason, we have decided to share our resources in an area where there is a great need in our school. We are asking, most humbly, and as you are able, if you will join us in this pursuit. We attend Fair Haven Ministries, and through a special project called the Kingdom Assignment inspired originally by Leesa and Denny Bellesi and then replicated in many other ways through a concept called Pay It Forward (as seen on Oprah in 2006).    We have decided to use our money in a similar way to help families in need at our own school.

The greatest need of Georgetown families at this time is for food. Some families are unable to qualify for free or reduced lunches because of their income, but at the same time, the money they do receive is going to pay mortgages and bills. There are also many children who come to school without snacks, leaving them hungry as they are trying to learn.

Up to this point, there has been a group of very committed teachers and staff who have been pooling their own money to address this concern. We are hoping that we can multiply their generous donations through this blog posting.

Again, if you are able, we would appreciate any donations of gift cards to food stores. Meijer, Family Fare, D & W Fresh Market and WalMart come to mind, but there may be others that you can think of. The gift cards can be dropped off at the Georgetown school office at any time during regular school hours (8:30 to 4:00). Please mark any donations as follows: SPRING SERVICE PROJECT. Please know that you can also purchase gift cards through out PTC scrip program. If you have questions about how to do this, contact Carrie Clark-Berry (csclarkberry@comcast.net).

Thank you so much for your consideration and your support of this Spring Service Project. Know that you will be helping our Georgetown families in this difficult time.

News From Office…

We are very thankful that we have been able to be in school and thank you for all of your cooperation and patience as we navigate through new routines. We are asking that if you drop your students off in the morning, to PLEASE PULL ALL THE WAY around the circle drive to the cone!! This allows for more cars to drop off at a time and gets the line to move faster. Also for pick up after school we are asking that you park in a spot. Please do not park along any part of the drive. This will allow for traffic to keep moving. Thank you!!

We are doing a spirit week next week for the walk a thon.

Monday – PJ Day

Tuesday – Crazy Socks Day

Wednesday- Crazy Hair Day

Thursday- Walk a thon Day and Hat Day

Friday- Maize and Blue Day

SOAR…

PBIS at Georgetown!

This year we continue to teach and embrace our school values, be Safe, Own It, Act Responsibly, and be Respectful or SOAR. Be Safe has been of the utmost importance as we navigate face-to-face learning this fall.  GES staff and students have embraced our SOAR values and spent additional time learning new routines related to masking, handwashing, and social distancing.  Social-emotional wellness is another important aspect of encouraging positive behavior and providing the necessary support to help each student continue to learn and grow.  We look forward to partnering with you this year to do this important work.

Office News…

We are right back into the swing of things and the kids are doing great! We are so proud of them and we thank you for your support and patience as we navigate this new normal!

Parents just a reminder that if you have to change how your child is getting home, please send a dated note to the teacher. Remember, we cannot change busses or ride a different bus home with a friend. That is a CRAZY part of the day for teachers and it is super helpful to have that note as a reminder!! Also keeping it as consistent as possible is helpful to not only the teachers , but the kids as well.

If you know your child is not going to be attending school for a day, please let the office know for attendance. You can also leave a voicemail if you call while we are not here. If you prefer email, our email addresses are mjeltem@hpseagles.net and ahoekst2@hpseagles.net. Please let us know the symptoms of an illness as we have to do a report to the health department every week. Thanks for your help with this!! It cuts down on interruptions into the classroom and we greatly appreciate it!

We have been going through paperwork that we may still need for your child.  If any forms come home with your student or you have received an email, please fill them out and return them to school as soon as you can.  Thanks and have a great weekend!!!

News From the Office…

What a crazy week it has been with cancelations and everything else related to the coronavirus! Please watch your emails as decisions are still being made on many things!! We are doing everything we can to keep the school as clean as we possibly can and our AMAZING Rob has been working very hard!

Thank you to Audrey Straub and her amazing team of volunteers for another successful book fair! The kids get so excited and we love to see them excited about books! We also want to say thank you to Erin Fredricks and Angela Smith for putting together another wonderful teacher conference dinner! Thanks to everyone who contributed to this! It is very much appreciated!

We are so fortunate at Georgetown to have such great parents showing your support at conferences! It means a lot to the kids and to the teachers!

We jump right into the M-STEP when we get back and the schedule can be found just below.  Please try to avoid scheduling any appointments during your child’s testing times. Have a safe weekend everyone! Hoping it’s full of sunshine again!

M STEP Schedule…

5th Grade – April 21, 22, 23, 28, and 29

3rd Grade – May 5, 6, and 7

4th Grade – May 12, 13, and 14

Parking Request for when we get back to school!!

PARKING REQUEST (AKA Scolding):  We are receiving complaints regarding parents who are refusing to park in a PARKING SPOT to come into school to pick up their child.   When you sit in your car and do not park, the traffic flow comes to a halt.  When you park your car (and it is not in a spot) and then go inside to get your child, people are BLOCKED in their parking spot and cannot exit. PLEASE PARK YOUR CAR IN A SPOT SO WE CAN KEEP THE FLOW MOVING! THANK YOU!! IT IS MORE APPRECIATED THAN YOU KNOW!!

Next Early Release…

Our next early release is on April 24. We will be dismissing at 12:15 on April 24. If your child is a car rider, please be at school between 12:10 and 12:15 for pick up.  Food Service will be offering a sack lunch on early release days. Children can order a lunch with their teacher in the morning and will have them to take to their destination.  The cost will be $2.25.  Free and reduced benefits will also apply.
