Breakfast at Georgetown

BkfastDid you hear that we will be serving breakfast at Georgetown every morning?  This is a district wide initiative to make sure that all students are offered the opportunity to have access to a healthy meal at the beginning of each school day.

The program will be run by our current JEN/HUD Food Service group.  In addition to lunch, you have the ability to purchase a $1.25 breakfast for your child.  Students who fall under the free/reduced plan for lunch will also receive this benefit for breakfast.

Mrs. Cheri Stacey will run this program for us.  Once students arrive at school (8:30 am), they will enter the building through their grade level door.  After placing backpacks and jackets in lockers, they will walk to the cafeteria/MPR where Mrs. Stacey will greet them and get them settled in for breakfast.  At 8:50, students will be dismissed to their classrooms to start their learning day.

If you would like to put money in your child’s meal account (for breakfast or lunch) visit the JEN/HUD website. If you are in need of information about Free/Reduced Meal Plans, you can contact the JEN/HUD office through this site.

Counting Down our Final Days: 14

As we enter week 38 of school, we are feeling the days fly by.  This is a very big week for us–a week that celebrates all of the hard work we have put forth in reading and writing school wide. When you enter the building, you will see our stories on the walls, doorways, lockers, windows and display cases.   Huge thanks to the team of six parents who posted almost 200 posters for us Friday afternoon.   I want to also thank Scott Cheyne and his team at Engineering Supply for providing us with unbelievably great service and pricing for the posters.

Girls Who Run and Plant!

GotRGeorgetown is fortunate to have a team of parents (Elly Bainbridge and Jennifer Waters) who have voluntarily led Girls on the Run (GotR) this spring.  This program is a ” non-profit prevention program that encourages preteen girls to develop self-respect and healthy lifestyles through running. The GotR curricula address all aspects of girls’ development – their physical, emotional, mental, social and spiritual well-being.”

Every Tuesday and Thursday for the past several weeks, they have GotR 1been meeting to train for the 5K GotR event.  In addition to the training, the team took on a service project for our school choosing to plant flowers outside our school and cleaning  up the school grounds, removing several bags of trash, sticks and rocks (and one broken bird egg) from the lawn and playground.   The team raised donations to purchase the flowers and potting soil!

If you have not yet seen the beautiful work they have done, check on these photos taken by Jennifer Waters.

Kudos to the team for training and completing the 5K Race.  And a warm thank you to all of you for the work you have done to keep our school beautiful and clean.

Friday update from Mr. Lawrence

I would like to introduce myself. My name is Matthew Lawrence and I won principal for half the day. I was the top bidder for the silent auction for this item.  (THANKS MOM AND DAD!)

Please know that the fourth graders got of on their field trip. Because of the rain we had to make arrangements for them to go to a Youth Group Activity Center at Christ Memorial Church.  It was a crazy start to the day, but we all worked together to figure it out.

Mrs. Reagan had me introduce myself to the school at 9:15.  I used the school intercom service for this.  I signed all the purchase requisitions, uploaded camp photos (Mrs. Reagan visited yesterday) and learned how to use the 2 way radio.

At 10:10, I called into Miss VanArkel’s classroom to call a 1o minute indoor recess.  I figured that if I am a third grader in this room and the principal, that the class should have some fun, too.

I have to now go to put postings for new teaching positions on the staff board.  None of these are for our school, but they have to be posted at all the schools.

Have a good day and Happy Friday!

Mr.  Lawrence

BLOG BITS from the OFFICE 4/30/10

Happy FRIDAY Georgetown Families!!  Wow, what a week……. but what more could we ask for…  a beautiful and sunny Friday!  Woo-hoo!  Also not that we are counting or anything, but someone made us a wonderful countdown chart for the office and we are down to 29 days of school!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

GEORGETOWN SPRING CARNIVAL….. Our Spring Carnival is on Saturday, May 15, 2010 from 11am to 2pm.  This is a favorite time for Georgetown families to join together in a day of fun and fundraising.  This year all proceeds from the carnival will be donated to the Lamers Family. This is one special family that is in dire need.  Currently, the Lamers Family is financially struggling with medical expenses incurred with their son, Brodie, who has Cerebral Palsy, a paralyzing medical condition.  This family needs to make accommodations to their home as well as purchase a handicap accessible van for Brodie. In addition to Brodie, Tisha and Matthew have three children to support. In today’s economy, this has been quite a challenge.

The Parent Club would appreciate a donation from ALL of our students.

We need for all students to bring in:

Baked Goods for the Carnival Cake Walk Game: K – 2nd grades

2 Litters of Pop for the Carnival Pop Toss Game: 3rd – 5th grades

All baked goods & 2 liters of Pop should be dropped off to the school office by Friday, 05/14/2010 by 4:00 PM.

If you have cares or concerns, please contact Susie Coxen 669-3662 or Stacey Alexander 914-6896.

BLOG BITS from the Office 1/29/10

Good Friday Afternoon!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE

I know I have said this before, but GEORGETOWN ELEMENTARY ROCKS!! Georgetown families showed tremendous support for our building community service project, “Takin Down Cancer-Community for a Cure.” It took four trips into the bank on Friday to deposit the coins and cash raised. Our school raised over $1,000 on Friday alone. WOW!  For the week Georgetown brought in $2,784.85 by collecting coins, cash donations and having a couple of class coin wars. If you add in the the monies acquired through t-shirt sales bought by staff and a few students we raised well over $3,000.00.  The organizers of the event are overwhelmed by the outpouring of support by our Georgetown family and are extremely appreciative.   As a teenager involved in the event said, “Your school is the BOSS!,” and ” You are my hero’s.” Well, I think that sums it up! 🙂   Thanks again for yet another successful building community service project!
