BLOG BITS 01/25/13

Happy Friday afternoon Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……… Wow, was that not cool to have a snow day this week?!  I absolutely love them and hopefully we can possibly squeak out one more this year!  One day this week we had to have inside recess because of the temperatures, but we love it when the kids can go out and play.  Just as a reminder on how we determine whether it will be outside/inside recess……. we log on to Wood TV8’s website and they have a weather station right next door at Daybreak Church.  This tells us the temperature and wind chill.  The ONLY time the students stay inside is when the windchill is BELOW ZERO.  We monitor this in the morning and before every recess, so please just make sure your kids have the appropriate outdoor wear for recess.

We still seem to be having an issue with a lot of tardy students in the morning.  Please, we are asking on your part that you get your students to school on time when you are dropping them off.  If they arrive late from the bus, this is not marked as a tardy.  As a reminder the first bell rings at 8:45am and the second bell at 8:50am, which is when the students should be settled in their class.  When students are on time this makes attendance MUCH easier for the teachers AND the  office.  Thank you.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held atGeorgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm.  Please remember that it is NOT a first come/first serve basis as far as turning in your registrations.  We will not be holding PK at Georgetown next year.  Our students that request PK will be going to Bauer.  Your child should be 5 on or before NOVEMBER 1 this year to enter EITHER PK or Kindergarten.  IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.  These WAIVERS will be attached to the Kindergarten registrations.  You ONLY need to fill out the waiver if your child turns 5 BETWEEN the dates of NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1, 2013.

Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE……..  We had another good week here at Georgetown.  We are just hoping for some snow to come soon so recess will be a little more exciting!!  Hopefully next week!  : )  We do have one issue that we would like to address with parents.  Since we have returned from our Holiday Break we are seeing a TON of students arriving late to school.  The first bell in the morning rings at 8:45am and the second bell rings at 8:50am, which is when the students should be all settled in their classrooms!  We (being the teachers AND the office) would really appreciate if your students were here and settled by 8:50.  It is much harder for attendance for the teachers and makes the attendance take much longer in the office if we are calling on all of the late students.

KINDERGARTEN PACKETS/ROUND UP………..  We now have Kindergarten packets available in the office to pick up.  Kindergarten Round Up will be held at Georgetown on Tuesday, February 26 at 7pm. IF your child turns 5 between NOVEMBER 2 AND DECEMBER 1 you will need to fill out a WAIVER in order for them to attend PK or K.

Well it has been a very quiet week here at Georgetown.  Of course we are not complaining by any means!  We hope everyone enjoyed their break and are ready to settle back in to the routine of school again.  January is a pretty quiet month here at school so not too many things to report.  Do not forget the Father/Daughter Dance will be held on Saturday, January 26.  Hopefully soon we will have some snow for the kids to play in!  Please  remember to send warm outerwear even if there is no snow, it is still cold.  Also try to remind your students to stay out of the mud at recess.  We have had to call parents a few times this week already for clean clothes.  : (

LUNCH INFO…….. PLEASE remember when sending these in with your students that you include their FIRST/LAST name and TEACHER name on the envelope.  The lunch room has been getting a lot of deposits without names and this is very difficult for her to determine who the deposit goes to.  Especially when it is a cash deposit!!  Thank you.  : )  Also attached is the January lunch menu and deposit slip…. Jan. 2013 Hud. Elem. Menu-2  Deposit Slip (1)

CALL INS and LATE ARRIVALS…………  Please try to remember to call in for your student if they are not going to be attending school for the day OR even if they will be a late arrival.  Especially with illnesses on the rise right now, we have been needing to make more phone calls home to check on students who are not accounted for.  With 625 students in this building it can take quite a while to get through attendance.  If you can help us with this matter that would be great!  Please remember you can call the office number 24/7 and leave us a message.  Thank you  : )

BLOG BITS 12/7/12

BLOG BITS 12/7/12……….  Happy Friday Georgetown Parents!

NEWS FROM THE OFFICE ……….  Let the count down continue……… 10 school days until Christmas break!!  This just does not seem possible.  It was a pretty quiet week here this week.  We have been  seeing a lot of illness again here at Georgetown.  The symptoms we are seeing the most of are vomiting, fever and sore throat.  The fever has been lingering on average for 3-4 days.  So please remember to follow the 24 hour rule when it comes to vomiting and fevers.

HOLIDAY PROGRAM DVD’S………….  Just a friendly reminder that we will NO longer be accepting orders for these.  If you did not get a chance to order one please CONTACT WCET at 669-3332.  Thank you.

STUDENT EARLY PICK-UP……….  In regards to students getting picked up early for appointments, etc. we are going to be doing things a little differently here in the office.  Please STILL continue to send a note to the teacher informing them that you will picking up your student early.  This will help to ensure that the students are ready for pick up.  However, as far as the office goes we WILL NOTcall the student down to the office until you are here to sign them out.  We have just been seeing more that we call the student down and then they are not picked up on time and they end up missing more of their instructional time in class.  Our suggestion to you as parents is to arrive 5-10 minutes early to ensure that you leave on time with your student.  Thank you.
