May Wraps Up and June Begins: Week 36

It’s the single digit count down:  Only 8.5 days of school remaining.  There is much to be done in the background — classlist work, final assessments, grading and report cards.  In addition, we are growing our staff so we will be adding four teachers and re-allocating spaces.

At the same time, we will be celebrating the remaining days with final projects, picnics, 5th grade celebration (May 30) and a host of other activities featured on your child’s class blog.

Kindergarten Parents:  Remember that the final day of school for MW in June 4.  The final day of school for TTH is June 5.  No kindergarten classes will be held on June 6, 7, and 8.

We will dismiss school at 1 pm on June 8.  As tradition holds, the staff with gather in the bus loop for a big send off of our busses — with the drivers making 2 or 3 rounds through the loop so we can wish all a happy summer.

A snapshot of the remaining days can be found below.  Here’s to a great wrap up of the year with updates to come about Open Library in the summer (TUESDAY MORNINGS) and more.

I hope your Memorial Weekend has been a great introduction to summer fun for your family!

The Countdown Begins: Fourteen Days Until Summer

The 2011-12 school year is wrapping up very quickly.  The teachers feel like they are racing to keep up with all the activities, assessments, teaching units and more.

Our 5th graders have a big week ahead at Camp Pinewood.  This is the culminating celebratory activity that takes place at the end of their elementary experience.  Please follow your child’s class blog for announcements about grade level events that will take place during these final few days.

Our final day of school is June 8.  Dismissal is at 1 pm.  The children will eat lunch at school and then board the busses for home.

Report cards will be mailed to your home address.  These should arrive on Monday or Tuesday the following week.

Here’s to a warm, sunshiny week ahead!

A most wonderful time of the year!

We are heading into our last week of school before the Christmas and New Year holidays arrive.   Throughout the week, classroom will be hosting holiday parties. Please be sure to check your child’s class blog for details about the day and time for these events.

This coming week we will be sending home the holiday performance DVD orders.  If you ordered one of these, look for this in your child’s backpack.

I want to wish all of you a wonderful holiday break with your family and friends.  It’s amazing to think that when we come back together in two weeks time, it will be a new year—2012!

Wishing you all the best for this holiday season.

All Things Holiday

The snapshot of our school calendar below reflects the holiday theme that will be heard, seen and felt throughout the building this week!

Our PTC will be hosting one of my all time favorite events:  The Holiday Shop.  Your children will be able to purchase items from the shop to gift to family members for the holidays.  This event will be held in the Media Center M-F and also next week Monday, Dec 6.

All grades will be rehearsing throughout the week for our all school holiday performance on December 1 at Fair Haven Ministries.   The details for this event can be found in a separate post titled 2011 Holiday Program.  We will also be emailing the details to families and sending home paper copies of event details.

I hope you had a great Thanksgiving with your family and friends.  Here’s to a fantastic December at Georgetown.

November 14-18: Eleventh Week of School

While looking through the morning paper today, I realized that Thanksgiving was just a week and a half away.   I simply can’t believe the holidays are right around the corner.

We’ll have five days of school this week, followed by a two days next week.  School is closed on Wednesday, November 23-25 for the Thanksgiving holiday.

Our Holiday Musical Program is just around the corner.  We will be performing on December 1 at Fair Haven Ministries on the corner of 28th St and Baldwin St.    The PK-2 children will perform from 6-6:30 pm.  Our children in grades 3-5 will perform from 7:15-7:45 pm.

We have held the performance in the past at Res Life Church in Grandville.  This church could accommodate all of us for ONE performance.  However, the rental costs for this facility do not fit into our 2011-12 budget.   A move to Fair Haven was necessary due to budget contraints.  We are very grateful to Fair Haven Ministries for renting their facility to us for the 2011 holiday performance.

More details about the performances will be available after Thanksgiving.

Have a great week!

A Four Day Week Ahead: October 17-20

It is our 7th week of school!  We have established great routines and procedures for learning, eating and playing together.

During the coming week, our students in grades 3-5 will complete their MEAP assessments.  There will be no school for all students on Friday, October 21.  The teachers and I will be scheduling parent teacher conferences and working on report cards.

If you have not yet provided us with your preferred day for conferences, please complete this survey as soon as possible.

Remember…MARCO’S PIZZA NIGHT IS ON WEDNESDAY.

Have a great week!

Another Beautiful Week Ahead

As we begin week 6, we are happily embracing the gorgeous fall weather…knowing that soon it will be dark longer and much colder!

Many thanks to our PTC for the best ever popcorn Friday!  I wish all of you could have seen the happy faces when the popcorn was delivered to classrooms.  And, my thought was this:  What a simple treat that makes an ordinary Friday special and fun.

Our week ahead has field trips for our PK classes, fire safety for grades PK, K and 4th  and MEAP testing for our learners in grades 3-5.  The MEAP tests are administered over a four day period and the results determine our school ranking in the state.  We take the tests seriously focusing on high quality instruction throughout the year in grades PK-5 as the best source of preparation.

I hope you are enjoying the stunning weather this weekend!  Here’s to a great week ahead.
