a wonderful, magical and just right Christmas with your family this holiday season!

We were treated by many of you with a wonderful holiday breakfast this morning. It was delicious, fabulous and a perfect way to start our day.  Thank you to everyone who donated items and to those who set up the MPR and served us today.

It is such a blessing to work with you and your children, and we hope you know how much we appreciate your support and guidance in creating the best learning environment possible.

A very busy week ahead!

It’s our 10th week of school and to celebrate we have packed our schedule with important and excited events.  This week is all about the two things we value most at our school:  CHILDREN AND PARENTS.

Our incredible Parent Teacher Club will be sponsoring an ALL SCHOOL ASSEMBLY on Monday (Jerry Jacoby’s Character and Integrity Traits) and the Scholastic BOOK FAIR (Monday-Friday in the Early El Sensory Motor Room).  In addition, the PT Club is also sponsoring a dinner for teachers on Monday from 4-5pm to kick off Parent Teacher Conferences.  Thank you, PARENTS for doing this for us!  It is such a treat to know that one night this week we do not have to worry about dinner plans.

We wrap up the busy week with COMFY COZY DAY on Friday.  It’s a day to learn in slippers, sweatshirts and sweatpants…anything comfy and cozy!

We are looking forward to meeting with parents this week to share the amazing progress your children have made as learners during the first 48 days of school.  During PT Conferences, you will hear me call the end times for each conference over the school speaker system.  This is done to help teachers and parents stay on time in a BE NICE way.  We want to make the 15 minutes focused and meaningful…and also honor your time by staying on TIME.

Here’s to a great week!

Mrs. Reagan

Popcorn Friday Schedule

We have our popcorn schedule for the 2011-12 school year.  These days are made possible because of supportive parents like you and the focus of our PTC Board.

Mrs. Partridge is our gracious parent volunteer who is organizing POPCORN FRIDAY’s.  THANK YOU MRS. PARTRIDGE!

Your donations (any amount helps) makes it possible for us to give every child a bag of popcorn on the Friday’s listed below.  The oil used for popping the corn is nut free.  If your child has an allergy to popcorn or does not like popcorn, simply coach them in letting their teacher know so that they can say, “No thank you.”

You can make a popcorn donation by sending a check (made payable to Georgetown PTC) or cash in an envelope with your child marked:  GEORGETOWN PTC.

Dates are below and these are also on our GEORGETOWN SCHOOL CALENDAR TO THE RIGHT.

PTC Fundraising Needs

It’s really quite easy to raise money for Georgetown. Money raised helps fund field trips, assemblies, Reading Counts, Just Write, classroom materials; as well as art, music, gym, and library expenditures. Thanks for your help!  Click on this PDF for a paper version to print for your refrigerator. Fundraising Flyer 2011-2012

Popcorn Money Request: The PTC is happy to help fund “Popcorn Fridays” throughout the school year. The past couple of years, we have asked for monetary donations to help cover the cost of supplies and the annual cleaning of the popcorn machine. If you can donate just $1 per student to this fund, it would be greatly appreciated. Please send the money to school in an envelope marked “popcorn money” to insure its proper fund assignment. Thanks!!!

The Walk-a-Thon: Our annual Walk-a-Thon is in two days! This year the event will have a “green” theme. It is scheduled for September 21 and 22.

NEW FUNDRAISER for 2011-2012: A Coin War (Replacing Classroom Basket Fundraiser)

This year we thought it might be fun to try a new spring fundraiser: a Coin War. So start saving your coins (but no pennies!) for our competition. Money will go toward classroom learning materials. The collection will occur the week of February conferences: February 27th through March 1st.

Papergator: Don’t forget to bring your newspapers, magazines, old phone books, etc. to the Papergator dumpster in the parking lot. The more we bring, the more money we make for Georgetown!

Spartan Cash for Labels: We receive cash for any UPC symbols clipped from Spartan brand products that you purchase from your local Family Fare and D&W stores. Just clip and collect UPC Symbols from any Spartan brand products (refer to the sample UPC symbol shown here). You can send any collected labels to school with your child, or drop them off in a special drop box that is located outside the office (next to the Box Top and Campbell Soup Label drop boxes).

Campbell Soup Labels: We receive points from certain product labels (Campbell Soup, V8, Spaghetti Os, Pop Secret, etc.) which the school can redeem for items in a catalog. In the past we have redeemed points for playground balls, pencil sharpeners for classrooms and last year we got a wii to encourage students to raise money for the Walk-a-Thon. The orange “Labels for Education” can be brought to the drop box outside the office or sent to school with your child.

Box Tops: Remember to save the little “Box Tops for Education” rectangular labels on various food and household items. Information about competitions will be posted at a later date.

Meijer 1 Card: If you shop at Meijer, please consider getting a Meijer 1 card to scan when making purchases; or you can add Community Rewards to a Meijer credit card. Our school’s organization code is 402529. This site:  MEIJER will walk you through the steps to get your card and help you make your purchases count for Georgetown!

Target “Take Charge of Education:” If you have a Target Red Card, please be sure your card is linked with Georgetown. One percent of your purchases will be donated to our school! Go to the following page to enroll… TARGET

It’s Here! OUR WALK A THON WEEK!

Our theme for the 2011-12 Event:

 G O    G   R   E   E  N:

Georgetown

A School that RECYCLES

  • Do you know that our school leads the district in lowest energy use due to the building design and our focus on LIGHTS OUT when we exit rooms?
  • Do you know that we recycle our paper?  Our PAPER GATOR (in the front parking lot near Baldwin Street) is also available to community members to encourage community paper recycling.
  • Do you know that we recycle water bottles?  Each week, a group of students collects plastic water bottles to help keep Georgetown Green.
  • Do you know that we recycle batteries?  Each month, Mr. Rob takes our bucket of batteries to a recycling station. Bring your batteries into school and put them in the bucket near the front office.

Why is the walk-a-thon donation so important?  This money helps to provide to pay for all school assemblies, Framed Art Work, Hoops in the Gym, Family Days like the Carnival, Mother/Daughter and Father/Son Events, Music materials,  Popcorn Days, Field Trips, Classroom supplies, classroom equipment, Reading Counts, Raz Kids, Book Fair, Santa’s Secret Shop, AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

We need your DONATIONS of Money!  We want all of these activities and events to continue this year.  PLEASE DONATE!

For our walk-a-thon days, we want everyone to wear GREEN. Green clothes, green nails, green face paint, etc. We want the walk-a-thon path to be a sea of green.  So, wear as much green as possible.

Thursday, September 22: 1:45 – 3:15 Afternoon ECSE, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade

What are the prizes?

  • Top WINNERS for EACH GRADE:  PIZZA PARTY WITH MRS. REAGAN
  • Top WINNING CLASSROOM:  A Pampered Day:  This class is treated like royalty.  They will be able to wear PJS, eat pizza and popsicles and receive two extra recesses during the day—and no homework for that day.
  • EVERY PARTICIPANT who raises $25 or more gets a GO GREEN re-usable EAGLES bag.
  • EVERY PARTICIPANT will be entered into drawings for DOUBLE J, LASER TAG and much more.
  • Money due September 30.  Everyone walks on the days assigned…money can be turned in between now and end of the month.

Friday, September 30: Completed donation forms and money due back to school.  You do not need to send the money this week.  You have until September 30.  PLEASE DONATE!  PLEASE!  (Yes, Mrs. Reagan is begging!)

Thank you for all of your help!  We look forward to a tremendously successful event!

Do you need these forms?

Donation Slip: For those who need record of the donation for taxes.

Walkathon Individual Earnings Report: Due with Money by September 30.

PARENTS STILL NEEDED AS VOLUNTEERS:  Amanda Troyer is still looking for PARENT HELP.  This is a fun event to work.  Low stress….and loads of fun.  Please let her know if you can help by emailing her.  She is in need of bubble machines, spray bottles (for  water) and big hearts who are willing to help her keep walking kids walking and hydrated!

Another Great PTC Event!

Skylar Carnvial

The rain held off…and as a result, we were able to hold the Georgetown 2011 May Carnival outside!  The booth games were staged in the circle drive, along with pets from the Harbor House Humane Society, a jump house, blow up slide, cotton candy and snow cones.  Inside, the PTC provide pizza, soda, face painting, popcorn and a cake walk.

It was a great event….one that was focused on family fun.  I must add this note of appreciation and gratitude to the volunteers.  Events like this are a huge undertaking to plan and execute.  Because our focus is to hold events like these at a break even venture with a focus on family fun rather than making a profit, much work goes into setting the right prices and recruiting volunteers.  Susie Coxen and Stacey Alexander put in hundreds of hours to make this event a success and I appreciate their important work!

Check out this slide show to see some of the happy moments I caught while visiting people at various locations throughout the night.

As always, thank you for your participation and support of events like this at our school.
