Welcome Kindergarten Class of 2026

welcomeWe are welcoming 100 kindergarteners to Georgetown this fall.   This school year will lay the foundation for elementary and secondary education so that they can be proud graduates in 2026.

Our four kindergarten teachers have been working day and night to prepare the curriculum and classroom for the arrival of their very special learners. We are so excited to welcome your children to school.

Kindergarten Open House will be held on Tuesday, August 27 from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  You and your child will have the opportunity to tour the building, classroom, playground and a big yellow school bus.

We would like every family to bring a donation of quarters (as many as you wish) to help us fund our Friday quarterPOPCORN Days.  These are made possible by parent volunteers — and the donations make it possible for us to purchase all the materials for the popcorn.  EVERY CHILD receives a bag one Friday a month!    A donation jug will be in the rotunda.

Also, if you would like to volunteer for classroom and school events this year, please complete this survey.  Volunteers are GOLD to us….and I want you to know that parent volunteers help us to build a warm, caring and supportive climate at Georgetown.  We want you to be involved in your child’s life at school…so please volunteer!

For those of you who have a child in grades 1-5, Open House will be held on August 28 (Wednesday) from 6:30 to 7:30 pm.  We will have our POPCORN QUARTER JUG in the rotunda…and we would love to have you complete the volunteer survey too!

I am very excited to meet all the new children and welcome all of our old friends back to school!

Another Great PTC Event!

Skylar Carnvial

The rain held off…and as a result, we were able to hold the Georgetown 2011 May Carnival outside!  The booth games were staged in the circle drive, along with pets from the Harbor House Humane Society, a jump house, blow up slide, cotton candy and snow cones.  Inside, the PTC provide pizza, soda, face painting, popcorn and a cake walk.

It was a great event….one that was focused on family fun.  I must add this note of appreciation and gratitude to the volunteers.  Events like this are a huge undertaking to plan and execute.  Because our focus is to hold events like these at a break even venture with a focus on family fun rather than making a profit, much work goes into setting the right prices and recruiting volunteers.  Susie Coxen and Stacey Alexander put in hundreds of hours to make this event a success and I appreciate their important work!

Check out this slide show to see some of the happy moments I caught while visiting people at various locations throughout the night.

As always, thank you for your participation and support of events like this at our school.

Background Checks: Volunteer Requirement

To ensure safety for all of our students, we are adding a layer of protection that requires all volunteers to submit a background check.  You will receive the paperwork home with your packet of student information forms that must be completed at the start of the school year.

The form must be completed for parents who plan to support classroom instruction (web reading, center support, general classroom assistance, and field trips).  Forms will arrive home in the start up packets.  You can also stop by the office and pick up a form to complete.  All information will be submitted to the Human Resources Department.  Link to Background Check Form.

Each teacher will have a list of parents who have completed the background check.  Volunteers for classroom work and field trips will be pulled from these lists.

Thank you for you help in ensuring that we have a safe climate for learning.

Santa’s Secret Shop….Shhhh!

Last week, the children in our building snuck down to Santa’s Secret Shop to purchase gifts for special people in their families.  Jamie Ham recruited volunteers to help with gift selection and purchasing.  I am sure the gifts are hidden in a special place at home.  I hope you are delighted and surprised on Christmas morning.  Many, many, many thanks to the Parent Club for making this event possible each year.

Volunteers…We Thank You!

To All of Our Incredible, Wonderful, Invaluable Volunteers:

We, the entire Georgetown staff, want you to know that you are an essential part of our learning community.  Without you, we would not be able to…

• celebrate and honor our student artists with displays of their craft throughout the year.
• reach the ability levels of learners in reading, writing and math (Reading Counts, Baggie Books, Web  Reading, Project Learning and much more!)

• acknowledge birthdays each month  in the rotunda.

• safely offer field trips to varied destinations at each grade.

• support our learners in need of ole models for problem solving and decision making  (Kid’s Hope, Buddy Reading, Recess Games).

• offer parent/child activities that are safe, fun and full of memories.

And the list of student support goes on and on.  You help us with “behind the scenes” support of teaching and learning by running copies, stapling books, sorting projects and hanging posters — and much more!

We, the staff of Georgetown, believe that because of your support our students are better prepared to learn and we are then able to do more to reach tthe varied social, emotional and academic needs of all our students.

Our deepest thanks to each and everyone of you for the time you give to us and all the students at Georgetown!

You are invited to a VOLUNTEER APPRECIATION performance  at our Talent Shows on May 14, 2009 (10 am and repeated at 2 pm).  If you are unable to make this performance, you will be able to view this on our blog!

Many thanks, Mrs. Reagan and the entire Georgetown Staff!

Volunteer Help Is Needed

The Georgetown Elementary’s Reading Counts program helps to encourage students to read and awards students who achieved their reading goals with a celebration party. The Reading Counts Party is Friday, May 15th and volunteers are still needed for many open times. May is a very busy time of year for everyone, but if you could help with the 3rd, 4th, or 5th grade parties, please let me know.  A volunteer list with all open times can be found here:  ReadingCounts

The Reading Counts Parties are great way to show our students that they did an outstanding job in
reaching their reading goals; however, the parties are only successful with the help of many volunteers. Please contact Angie Roon if you or even a friend would be available to help with the last party of the school year!
