Little Green Walking Feet

We had our second day of the GO GREEN WALK-A-THON today!  Congratulations to our ECSE, TTH PK/K and first and second graders for doing an awesome job walking, walking and some more walking.

We were supported in our walking by Mr. Cecchini who rode his unicycle while juggling, Mrs. Troyer and a team of parents who kept us well watered, and three mysterious dad’s who hung out by the bridge and cooled us off with squirt guns!

Many thanks to Malachi, my photographer buddy, who took photos for me so I could walk and talk with some great kids.  Remember:  You can send your WALKATHON DONATIONS into school between now and September 30.  Thank you for ALL you do to support us at Georgetown.

GO GREEN WALK-A-THON!

Mrs. Troyer and two suspicious looking trolls loaded with squirt guns made sure that we had a FANTASTIC GO GREEN walk-a-thon!

Tomorrow is our second walk-a-thon day for TTH PK/K and Grades 1 and 2.  We are hoping that the rain stays away.

Check out these photos of our MW PK/K and Grades 3-5 walking today.

It’s Here! OUR WALK A THON WEEK!

Our theme for the 2011-12 Event:

 G O    G   R   E   E  N:

Georgetown

A School that RECYCLES

  • Do you know that our school leads the district in lowest energy use due to the building design and our focus on LIGHTS OUT when we exit rooms?
  • Do you know that we recycle our paper?  Our PAPER GATOR (in the front parking lot near Baldwin Street) is also available to community members to encourage community paper recycling.
  • Do you know that we recycle water bottles?  Each week, a group of students collects plastic water bottles to help keep Georgetown Green.
  • Do you know that we recycle batteries?  Each month, Mr. Rob takes our bucket of batteries to a recycling station. Bring your batteries into school and put them in the bucket near the front office.

Why is the walk-a-thon donation so important?  This money helps to provide to pay for all school assemblies, Framed Art Work, Hoops in the Gym, Family Days like the Carnival, Mother/Daughter and Father/Son Events, Music materials,  Popcorn Days, Field Trips, Classroom supplies, classroom equipment, Reading Counts, Raz Kids, Book Fair, Santa’s Secret Shop, AND SO MUCH MORE!!!

We need your DONATIONS of Money!  We want all of these activities and events to continue this year.  PLEASE DONATE!

For our walk-a-thon days, we want everyone to wear GREEN. Green clothes, green nails, green face paint, etc. We want the walk-a-thon path to be a sea of green.  So, wear as much green as possible.

Here is the walk-a-thon GO GREEN schedule:

Wednesday, September 21: 9:45a.m. – 11:15a.m. – Morning ECSE, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 3rd, 4th and 5th Grade

Thursday, September 22: 1:45 – 3:15 Afternoon ECSE, Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, 1st and 2nd Grade

What are the prizes?

  • Top WINNERS for EACH GRADE:  PIZZA PARTY WITH MRS. REAGAN
  • Top WINNING CLASSROOM:  A Pampered Day:  This class is treated like royalty.  They will be able to wear PJS, eat pizza and popsicles and receive two extra recesses during the day—and no homework for that day.

  • EVERY PARTICIPANT will be entered into drawings for DOUBLE J, LASER TAG and much more.
  • Money due September 30.  Everyone walks on the days assigned…money can be turned in between now and end of the month.

PARENTS STILL NEEDED AS VOLUNTEERS:  Amanda Troyer is still looking for PARENT HELP.  This is a fun event to work.  Low stress….and loads of fun.  Please let her know if you can help by emailing her.  She is in need of bubble machines, spray bottles (for  water) and big hearts who are willing to help her keep walking kids walking and hydrated!

Our Second Week

We did it!  We completed our first week of school.  If you are a parent of a pre-kindergartener, kindergartener or first grader, you were probably amazed at how tired your child was after the first few days.  Even our most seasoned learners (grades 2-5), may have been more tired as a result of rising earlier and the hard work that goes into following the school routines and learning.  Please take some time to watch our first video of the new year which is at the top of this post.

It was an incredible first week…one of our best first weeks ever.  Every single staff member was out and about helping with school arrival, hallway transition, the lunchroom and end of the day departure.  Georgetown truly has an amazing staff who are willing to do whatever it takes to help every single child feel safe and comfortable at school.

As we look ahead to our first five day week, you will see that a Parent Club meeting will be held on Thursday from 6:30-7:30 in our Media Center.  We will be discussing the ALL SCHOOL WALK-A-THON and other upcoming events.  The WALK-A-THON is our major fund raiser for the year and takes place on September 21 (MW PK/K/ECSE) and 22 (ALL SCHOOL).  Information about this will arrive home this week.  We are hoping that each family can contribute to this very important fundraising event.

HAVE A GREAT WEEK!

Pool Party with the Principal!

DSC05970

In early September, we held a Walk-a-thon to raise money for Parent Club events in our school.  The top five money earners won a pool party with me…at my pool!  We took advantage of the summer like weather and played at my pool today.  We ate subs, drank sprite, sprayed each other with water, and laughed nearly the entire time.  Enjoy these photos…and many thanks to Tom, Sheyla, Madison, Paige and Brooklyn for all you did to raise money for our great school.

PS:  I asked them if they thought the top prize next year should be pool party at the principal’s again and they all said, “YES!”  So good luck to all you for next year.
