Welcome Haiti Partners: Mr. Badger and Mr. Antoine

haitiWe have some special  visitors coming to Georgetown this week.  Mrs. Greenlund, one of our second grade teachers, is active each summer in a Haiti Partners Teacher Summit that trains hundreds of teachers in best practice instruction. This video provides background information on the program.

This week Thursday,  two directors from Haiti Partners (Erik Badger and Benaja Antoine) will tour the building and watch Mrs. Greenlund teacher lessons.

When you enter the building, you will see that we have the Haitian flag displayed on the same wall as the American flag.We are excited to host Mr. Badger and Mr. Antoine — and look forward to welcoming them to our school.

Conference Week Ahead

leoMarch has arrived…and it’s coming in like a LION:  Biting cold, wind and ariessnow.  We are hoping it goes out like a lamb…spring like, calm and a taste of warm temperatures.

Did you know that this piece of folklore is connected to astronomy — position of two constellations in the night sky?  In early March, Leo the Lion is crossing the meridian.   As March ends, Aries (the RAM) moves into the dominant position — about the time spring lambs are born and green grass is appearing…hopefully!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.    A great deal of time goes into completing the report cards and preparing for these 15 minute meetings.   I will be announcing the end times to help keep everyone on schedule.

If you have a 5th grader, they will be taking a standardized math test called the ITBS.  We also have JET’s PIZZA NIGHT and wrap up the week with POPCORN FRIDAY!
