Art Leadership Awards: Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch

RTSONIA

Georgetown Elementary School Art Program Ranks #9 in the State!

Josey Brouwer and Heather Persch, art teachers  our school, deserve to take a step out of the art room and into the spotlight!  Brouwer and Persch have been recognized by Artsonia – the world’s largest online kid’s art museum – for outstanding leadership in the area of Arts Education at Georgetown Elementary.  The school’s online art gallery – ranks #9 in the state.

The leadership awards presented to Heather and Josey honors teachers who go beyond the classroom walls to encourage family and community involvement in the area of technology integration within the school arts program.

While teachers in more than 100 countries showcase their student artwork on Artsonia, Heather and Josey have created a school community deserving of recognition.  During the 2012-2013 school year, the Georgetown Elementary School gallery showcased 2756 pieces of artwork.  This popular collection of art has been visited more than 7656 times and has received 207 comments from friends and family.

In addition, family members can purchase keepsakes imprinted with their child’s artwork, with Artsonia donating 20 percent of their annual product revenue back to the school art program.

Headquartered in Gurnee, IL, Artsonia is an online kid’s art museum providing free educational resources for kids, families, and schools.  Founded in 2000, Artsonia continues to integrate technology in the classroom, develop multi-cultural understanding through art and increase family involvement in children’s education.

Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch are already showcasing new student artwork for the 2013-14 school year – be sure to visit Georgetown’s online gallery   soon!

Art Show 2013

I attended the GEORGETOWN ARTIST RECEPTION at the Hudsonville City Hall on Tuesday night and was once again stunned and amazed by the artwork that is produced in our district by our students, grades PK-12.

The Georgetown pieces, hung and displayed by our two art teachers, Mrs. Brouwer and Mrs. Persch, stood out among others because of their color, texture and creativity.  I was busy snapping photos and greeting artists, doing the best I could to congratulate everyone—but the crowds of people made it difficult to make it to all.  If I did not see you there, know that I saw your artwork and I am so proud and impressed of each of you!

Our art teacher, Mrs. Josey Brouwer had one of her pieces featured in the magazine Arts and Activities this month.  You can check it out in digital form…on page 15.

Spring has sprung…

Kindergarten Artist, Eva Latimer

…in our hallways!  Even though Mother Nature can’t decide what to do with our seasons, our kindergarteners announce spring with their big bold flowers!  Many thanks to their art teacher, Mrs. Persch, for this bright, bold and happy project that is reminding us all of the joys of spring.

*Remember our Art Show is being held this week at the Hudsonville City Hall.
