Our 27th Week of School!

We were VERY HAPPY and THANKFUL to have a few days of sunshine last week.  It’s amazing the difference this made in the mood throughout our building.   The first day of Spring in Thursday.  Although it may not feel like spring on March 20, each day that passes by brings us closer to warmer weather.

This week we welcome the parents of 2014-15 PK•K students at a Tuesday night round up meeting and on Friday, our fifth graders meet the staff at Baldwin Middle School, their first introduction to 6th grade.

Remember that we have Marco’s Pizza on Wednesday!

Here’s to a great week.  Mrs. Reagan

S.O.A.R. II PARENT SURVEY………… For the past three years, we have been working on accomplishing our district’s long-range planning goals outlined in S.O.A.R. I (Strategic Objectives to Achieve Results).  Some of the accomplishments include, but are not limited to, implementation of all day every day kindergarten, additional extra curricular opportunities for students (Middle School drama/musical productions and lacrosse as a club sport), and an increased focus on relevance/21st Century Skills in our classrooms.  A report of the many accomplishments during the past three years can be found on our district’s website.

To continue our tradition of excellence at Hudsonville Public Schools, we are asking for your help in the development of our next strategic plan.  We have completed the first phase of development (Focus Groups) and are very thankful for the wealth of information we received regarding the strengths of Hudsonville Public Schools and areas to focus on in the future.  An executive summary can be found on our website.

In February we randomly selected parents to participate in our needs assessment survey.  If you were not selected for the random survey now is your opportunity to participate in the survey that is now open to all parents and community members.  Please consider taking part in helping us set the direction for the next three years.  The survey, linked below, should take no more than 15 minutes to complete and will close on March 31.   Parent and Community Survey

This week Thursday,  two directors from Haiti Partners (Erik Badger and Benaja Antoine) will tour the building and watch Mrs. Greenlund teacher lessons.

When you enter the building, you will see that we have the Haitian flag displayed on the same wall as the American flag.We are excited to host Mr. Badger and Mr. Antoine — and look forward to welcoming them to our school.

Conference Week Ahead

leoMarch has arrived…and it’s coming in like a LION:  Biting cold, wind and ariessnow.  We are hoping it goes out like a lamb…spring like, calm and a taste of warm temperatures.

Did you know that this piece of folklore is connected to astronomy — position of two constellations in the night sky?  In early March, Leo the Lion is crossing the meridian.   As March ends, Aries (the RAM) moves into the dominant position — about the time spring lambs are born and green grass is appearing…hopefully!

Parent/Teacher Conferences are Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday of this week.    A great deal of time goes into completing the report cards and preparing for these 15 minute meetings.   I will be announcing the end times to help keep everyone on schedule.

If you have a 5th grader, they will be taking a standardized math test called the ITBS.  We also have JET’s PIZZA NIGHT and wrap up the week with POPCORN FRIDAY!

Holding Down the Fort…

solar vortex

at Georgetown!   Even though it is FREEZING COLD and WINDY and SNOWY all around Georgetown, the inside is filled with 12 super special snow bound kids:  Aiden, Kaycie, Remi, Jordan, CJ, Evan, Dylan, Rachel, Jack, Alyssa, Sofia and Talia.  They have the gym, cafeteria, library and hallways ALL TO THEMSELVES because they were here for BEFORE SCHOOL CARE due to the delay.

Although it is fun to have the school all to yourselves, we are really tired of winter and the cold and the POLAR VORTEX.  We will gladly welcome a SOLAR VORTEX of some kind or another!
