READING COUNTS 2015 Winners

rc 2015

Throughout the school year, we promote READING READING READING READING…a critical skill that prepares our student for success in all content areas in school and lays the groundwork for success in later life.

Reading Counts is a motivational program that helps our students check their comprehension of reading, track the number of works read (Millionaire’s Club) and log the books they have read over the years.

We celebrated all the students who participated this year and awarded prizes through a drawing for Reading Counts.  Each student who participated in Reading Counts was entered in the drawing for a $25 gift card to TARGET.  Winners:  Hermione Shupick, Jack Zuiderveen, McKenna Tockstein, Evan McDonald, Teresa Wortman, Tyler Scholma, Ellie Oldebekking, Kourtney Fuglseth, Ella Reifschneider, Avery Terpstra, Clayton Richter, Kayliegh Poisson, Ashlynn Stencel, Karlee Wu and Griffin Baker.

The biggest prize, IPAD MINI, goes to KAYLIN REIFSCHNEIDER!

BIG thanks to our Parent Club for sponsoring this event and the prizes.  And…even bigger thanks to Mrs. VandenBerg, our librarian, who carefully tracks points and minutes throughout the year!

The Final Week of School, 2014-15

readers

We are entering our final week of school for the 2014-15 school year.  It has been an amazing year — one filled with memories of friendships (new and continued), learning celebrations and school happenings.   We want you to know how much your support means to us — through volunteering in the classrooms, at PTC events and through your support of your child’s learning activities.  Your support of your child’s learning environment makes it possible for our school to reach all learners. Our school is great because of you and your children!

We have many events going on this week.  One of the most important is We Have Something to Say…JUST WRITE!  A celebration of our writing work PK-5.  Please visit your child’s class blog to find out the date, time and details of the event.  Each grade is organizing their celebration to make it appropriate for the age of the students.  While you are visiting our school for JUST WRITE, take time to read the many stories posted on the walls.  We are raising amazing writers who will be able to use their skills to demonstrate their thinking in higher grades, secondary, post high school education and their careers.

Throughout the summer months, I will update our blog with details about the upcoming 2015-16 school year.  Open Houses for next year will be held the week before school begins.  Dates and times are below.

open house

Also…our Library will be open in the summer from 10-12 on Tuesdays.  This is a great time to come and meet teachers and check out books.

School dismisses on Friday at 1 pm.  The children will eat lunch at school before we dismiss them.

Here’s to a fantastic week…filled with sunshine and wrap up activities!

Blog Bits 5/29/2015

Last Blog Bits 5/29/2015

News From the Office….

This is it! The last Blog bits of the school year! I can’t believe how fast the year went! We have 5 more SCHOOL Days until we are out for the summer!! We will be dismissed at 1:00 on Friday, June 5. We hope you all have a fun, safe summer and we will see you back in the fall.

Here are a couple reminders for the end of the year:

1. If you are bringing in a frozen treat for a birthday or just for fun, please bring them in a cooler. We do not have a lot of extra room in the lounge freezer. Thanks for your help with this!!

2. If your child has meds at school, you MUST pick them up by the end of the day on Friday June 5 (last day of school). Any meds that are left at school at the end of the year will be disposed of.  Thanks!

5th Grade News….

4th and 5th grade Field day is June 2 from approximately 9:20-1:45. Rain date will be on June 3. Please send a waterbottle, sack lunch (unless you ordered one from food service), and put on sunscreen!

Safety reward will be on June 3 and the reward is a secret! If you son or daughter is a safety, please have them check around for a safety belt at home as we are missing some of them. Thanks

As stated in the note sent home in January, we have experienced many changes in funding for our extracurricular activities. Because fifth grade camp serves as a culminating activity for our students, we will not have a formal fifth grade celebration. Instead, on Thursday, June 4 the teachers have planned a fun end-of-the year punch and cake social at Georgetown for the fifth graders. This activity is for students only; no volunteers are needed at this time. Thanks

Vote August 4….

On August 4, 2015, voters will be asked to consider a $21.88 million bond proposal to address growth and improve facilities. This proposal will extend Hudsonville Public Schools’ current debt levy for six additional years without raising the current tax rate. The district’s enrollment has grown from 3,555 students in 1994 to 6,450 in 2015 and is projected to exceed 7,000 students in 2020.

The proposal being considered would provide for:Vote

• Safe and secure entrances for all buildings

• Renovations to the recently purchased Heritage School building

• Renovations to Alward Elementary

• Additions at Riley Street Middle School

• District-wide technology enhancements

• Gradual replacement of an aging bus fleet
District leaders will be conducting Community Forums on June 29 and July 20 at 7:00 p.m. at our Administrative Offices (3886 VanBuren Street). We welcome your participation and the opportunity to answer any questions you may have.
Please visit www.hudsonvillepublicschools.org or call Dr. Nick Ceglarek at 616-669-1740, extension 1 for more information.
