SUMMER HOST FAMILIES NEEDED

Host Families are needed (of any size, age, etc.) to open up their home for 4 or 6 weeks this summer for teenage students from Spain who are coming to this area to practice their (already good) English.

The 4-week program is roughly June 25-July 23 (dates to be determined), and the students attend activities every Tue/Thu out of Hudsonville.  The 6-week program is roughlyJune 26-August 6 (dates to be determined), and these students do not attend any activities but only live with the host family.

Both programs are flexible and students may go on vacation or to summer camp with you.  Students come fully insured and with their own spending money.  Host Families are also needed for the school year for public or private high schools. Please contact Mayah Bischoff at mayah.bischoff1@gmail.com or 616-607-4769 for more information.

Sister School Visit!

Georgetown Host Students with Raey Guang Students

Our sister school, Raey Guang Elementary (Pingtung, Taiwan) will be visiting us October 29 through November 1.  This will be their third visit to our school and we are thrilled to host them again.

Making the trip are 20 children (ages 8-12) and four teachers.  There are twelve Georgetown families that are hosting our guests. The host family stays are the most memorable part of the visit–our Raey Guang friends never forget the kindness that is shown to them.

We have posted the photos of our visitors paired with their host students on a board in our lobby.  You can also see a display in our rotunda highlighting features of the Taiwanese culture.  Mr. Chen, one of the teachers, created a special blog to introduce each student.

The purpose of the trip is to expose the Taiwanese children to American culture, education, language, food and traditions.  They are very excited to spend time with us during the holiday of Halloween.

Did you know that you can see the school of Raey Guang in the town of Pingtung by using Google Earth?  If you have this application downloaded, paste this address into the site:  No.86, Xingfeng Rd., Pingtung City, Pingtung County 900, Taiwan.  Here is a photo of the school entrance using Google Earth.  Isn’t technology amazing?!

During the visit, we will share photos on our blog.  We are counting down the days to their arrival.

Summer Host Families Needed

Mrs. VanHaitsma, our ELL teacher,  is looking for families (of any size, age, etc.) to open up their home for 4 weeks this summer to host a student from Spain.  The student would be living with you and your family, participating in the majority of activities you normally do.  The student would also have activities planned especially for them that they would be required to attend on certain days.
All it takes is a willingness to try something new and open up your home.  It can be a great cultural experience, especially if you have children at home who want to learn more Spanish!  (The students all speak enough English to communicate with you).
If you are interested in more information, please contact me.  You can contact Mrs. VanHaitsma through email (esther.vanhaitsma@gmail.com).
