Just Write: Our Books Are Published!

We Have Something to Say...

Our 2nd annual and  HUGE celebration of writing called, “We have something to say…JUST WRITE!” is just four weeks away.  The event takes place during the week of May 4, with different events scheduled each day. Teachers are busy preparing student stories for publication on lockers, hallways, doors, posters, and BOOKS. We are publishing a book for each class, and these will be available through lulu.com. For each book purchased, we will receive $4.00 to put toward our writing program (supplies, author visits, and software).  In addition, you can download a book for free–an important option in these economic times.

Please be sure to visit our lulu STOREFRONT to check out our publications.

Help the Brownies Help Kids

Hudsonville Brownie Troop #2955 has adopted Kids Food Basket as their chosen charity for 2009-2010.   This group of third grade girls represents students from both Alward Elementary and Georgetown Elementary.
Our contact at Kids Food Basket has told us that they are in dire need of 100% juice boxes!  Our troop would like to help so we are asking you for your help!   Please consider donating either juice boxes or gift cards to purchase juice boxes.

Kids Food Basket provides nearly 1,600 sack suppers to over hungry children from 16 area schools EVERY SCHOOL DAY!  And there are 17 local schools on the waiting list. Each sack supper costs just 86 cents, or $140 per child per school year!   Your donation can make an incredible difference!  Thank you for your consideration.

Please place JUICE BOXES in labeled box in the front lobby.

Spring Service Project Update

Many of you have contributed to the Shereda Family’s Spring Service Project. So far, we have received $200 in gift cards to local groceries stores.  These gift cards are being used to keep all classroms stocked with snacks for children who do not have a mid-morning treat from home.  We also received a generous donation of $100.00 from the creators of the Kingdom Assignment, Leesa and Denny Bellesi. This money is being used to pay for student lunches–a small way to help families who do not qualify for free lunch.  Thank you to EVERYONE who has made a donation toward this incredible spring service project.

Reading Counts…Spring

From Angie Roon, Reading Counts Chair:

The end of this marking period is May 6.  And, as you know our Georgetown students are working hard to make their reading counts goal to be eligible to attend the last Reading Counts celebration for this school year.  Over 80 students have already made their goal and that is even before Spring Break!  Way to go!!  For those students who are still working toward your goal, there is no need to worry because there is still time to read more books and take more quizzes.  Stay tuned…a VERY FUN Reading Counts party is coming on Friday, May 15.

Keep reading Georgetown students!!

April Fools Day

April 1st  is a day in which I always hold my breath and hope that someone close to me isn’t going to seek some revenge on me for some past joke I played on them!  April Fools is the most lighthearted day of the year and celebrated in many countries.  In the UK, practical jokes must be played before noon.  Anyone who plays a joke after noon is called an Aprils’ Fool.   I wish you luck today!
